The Official WEST COAST BASH 2013 Thread!
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I know I know, it happens, we'd not be the only ones affected and all but if X2 is still down when we're there...well yeah I realistically don't expect to make it out to CA again anytime soon. Oh please be open at least for one ride -
Knoebels Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
..... People every amusement park is a company The "small feel" is always awesome but...well guess Im a cold bastard, let's be real. Parks are run for profit are they not? That settles that right there And yeah, we always lament the big parks but they are 'big' for a reason, after all. Knoebels is awesome but you dont exactly get the selection of CP or even Hershey, nor the often expansions. But its a damn good company! Really have to sneak Knoebels in this year, one upside to its smaller size, I dont mind going alone when I visit some PA friends! Edit: Or this thing that's going down in October perhaps -
The Official WEST COAST BASH 2013 Thread!
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Did you sell out last year too? I feel like I bought my ticket fairly close to the event days. Last year we had more tickets available as we had more rides during ERT. We like to scale things a bit so that we can ensure lines will be short during ERT sessions. Usually lines during West Coast Bash ERTs are non-existant. Perhaps towards the start of ERT, but you should be able to get in PLENTY of rides! awwww yeah : D -
Texas/Midwest 2013 Tour Mini-Updates!
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow, I like a rough ride honestly but it's near universal utter contempt for this ride. Hope they do a legit re tracking with better rails for next year! Because I deff will be going...just to be safe I'll bring a doctor, apparently -

Schlitterbahn Kansas - Verrückt Water Slide
JJLehto replied to KBrylczyk's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nice!!! Looks sick Though nothing can beat that slide I saw on the water parks show, (drawing a blank) where you are literally stuffed in a tube, wear a helmet and go crashing around the cement walls -
Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, blame the kids is always always the way to go Why not technology itself? We should just regulate all advancement and ban vidya games this way kids can be raised the old, erm right way. Hell, let's just say it's the fault of capitalism. Really isn't that what is at the core of the problem? I guess I could go for an armed take over of SDC and run it as a non profit collective of coaster enthusiasts. Or guess I can accept it is what it is, enjoy the place, it's the people and times that make the magic...not the area that's a collection of rides and shops. But I'm young and lazy so naturally that's the route I prefer -

Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I know it's the enthusiast in us, but they ARE businesses yall realize? Even the small family run/local ones that deliver that great atmosphere and feel. Also if we want parks to get awesome new rides, it will involved them eventually slowly becoming "corporate" like Hershey. I still LOVE that place though, perhaps it's lost the feel and etc we love but it's such a better park in terms of rides. I'm sure SDC will try to maintain the small feel long as possible though -
Texas/Midwest 2013 Tour Mini-Updates!
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Unfortunately, that's what happens when a wooden roller coaster is neglected by the park. I also couldn't agree more about a full re-track opposed to adding the inversion. It seems that Mt. Olympus is more about trying to find ways to get people into the park and taking their money opposed to looking for ways to improve guest experience once they're in the park. And it's always the big bad evil chains of SF and Cedar Fair that gets people angry for being about "business"! -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
- Every person trying to defend a new B&M 2001-2013 Exactly. It's not about judging a ride by an animated POV. It's about knowing what kind of rides B&M has built for the last 10+ years. Why would they change this now when a middle-of-the-road B&M will still be in the top 2 rides for this park? I always laugh when poeple try to down-grade a B&M for not being as forceful. The days of Nemesis and BTR were over 10 years ago people.... It's not so much that older B&M's were more forceful, it's more so that other companies have pushed the limits while B&M has backed off the intensity. It's what sells for them, so I don't fault them by any means...but that's the reality. Precisely. Also it's the enthusiast factor (happens with ALL things) but if something isn't omg super awesome it thus "sucks" when really most B&Ms are fun still. -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Unique layout, no MCBR, I like it! The color is cool as well. Apparently top speed isn't reached until the second half, so that's pretty cool. Should give it great pace and an intense second half! It is a shame, B&M were the kings up into the 2000s but Intamin just makes more intense rides, as well as taking the mantle of innovativeness. Kind of given B&M a bad rep...and I DO get it, their rides have become much less forceful, trimming the hypers. But this should be without those things, and it seems less spread out than Alpengeist -

JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hmm well I MAY get KBF in after all. Quite odd but my LA friend has...disappeared? No more FB, and I don't have his number, that's what I was gunna ask him for! Maybe he'll appear again by the time I leave, if not well...I'll have the morning of the 8th free then and can squeeze in ERT and some rides. -

A giga or record breaking invert would be cool, but watch it just be another wing rider! -
Lake Compounce Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Would anyone be game for Lake Compounce on Saturday, Aug 17? It looks like I'll be heading up to SFNE on that Sunday and while in the area! I was a little let down I only got 1 ride on Boulder Dash and it was cool and rainy which I think may have impacted it...ride was a bit of a let down I have heard rain will do that so I'm hoping for more rides and better weather! -
Texas/Midwest 2013 Tour Mini-Updates!
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Damn, I thought Hades always looked sweet and like the new...360 version And I like a rough ride, but sounds like it may really be that rough?? I did hear the re tracking was on the inversion only...seems like they should eventually re-track the entire ride Again great pics though, looks like this tour has been a blast. -
Alton Towers Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
How exactly is the smiler? Looks like an epic cluster**** of twists, inversions and IDK even but I've heard it's also kinda slow and the whole 2nd lift kills the pace. Also that it's kind of painful -
I know what you mean about the launch. It's not very "intense" at all but I actually like that, because it just builds and builds. Not the most forceful start but it just keeps accelerating! Nitro always was about floater, but it used to be nice and sustained. I'll have to get there soon but sounds like this year it really has been running poorly. This saddens me, when you get a nice float over every hill, and some good pops in the finale, it was such a great ride.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I luckily had a walk-on both times. x) Um, I sat in the very middle the second time and almost very back the second time. The second time through was a better ride (mainly because my dad was in front and we were watching him rattling/shaking like crazy in his seat). haha It is wood, could've been a bad day but yeah I've always found it a fun little ride! Shame you didn't.
