Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nice! Yeah I had a wonderful time at KI, more than I expected. Park lived up to the hype, and I was shocked at how good the ops were. I went on a quiet day and not only was everything running 2 trains, the ops were not slacking at all. A+ I won't be going to coasterstock, but I will be stopping by KI after coastermania, and I am stoked. Been wanting to get back to this park. -

All depends I suppose. At least from FL to Providence, RI it was pretty stark but whatever. By this point honestly everywhere is starting to slack. I think by now everyone, even if they've been good is just fed up/broken and feeling natural excitement that the end is in sight. Regardless I feel pretty safe in a park. -
Yeah.....public transport is not our forte lol Also good point, the car does allow some freedom to do other things if so inclined. I always try to do local things and not just the park so I always appreciate the freedom to move easily! Especially for Cincy! It was a low key pretty cool city.

Yes! And it is indeed open this upcoming week! I've been feeling burnt out, think its time to take a day off from class (its all online and uploaded later anyway) and head to Great Adventure. It has been 6 or 7 years. I'm kind of excited. I know I crap on the park a lot but still was my home park And it'll be great to ride El Toro again. Edit: oh mid 60s as well. Perfect

Go for it. It's CP...how can you not think it's worth it? And if by "(possibly) overhyped RMC" you mean S V first, to my surprise it meets the hype. Second, even if it doesn't...it's Cedar Point lol It's always worth it. KI is a great park. Again why worry so much about one ride? It's a wonderful park, I actually feared it would be overhyped but I really enjoyed it. Can't let big parks be possibly thought out of because of 2 specific rides. Edit: Bill is right, if you're going summer though, fastpass required. I mean I just used rental car. I go for the most affordable/basic kind and its not far at all from the airport to KI so it wasn't too bad. Guess it depends on your overall plan though. If it wont move for 3 days that is a lot of wasted cost. Full disclosure: I know nada of the area so other means of transport you gotta research. Or uber/lyft? IDK but again Ive never used it for something like 40 miles apart.

Indeed, but if Toro isn't running by then no biggie, that's what May is for @Coasternut lol well that's a tad silly, while (at least as of years ago when I last went) it wasn't the best park out there it certainly isnt dangerous. And pffft I grew up in NJ and have much experience with New Yorkers and Phillies lol Besides if they rattle you just gotta roll with it. Can guaranatee you from life experience the more intense and wannabe tough dude they are the more of a sad joke they are. Will get in your face and make a scene but 80% chance the biggest wimp at home XD But yeah it was easy to ignore living like 45 mins away. After being 1000 miles away for years I have an urge to go again.

lol yeah good call on the April Fools announcement. Was a funny thought, so I almost couldn't believe it was actually announced today XD Though really what a great day, I am stoked to finally get back to CP and I've always had such a great day for this event. -
Oh I know this park runs coasters in conditions many wouldn't. I've seen Bill there talking about riding Nitro at times that makes me fear for his sanity XD So interesting, I mean the rides are ofc good but man...for most of my life I've hated the actual park lol and was always going downhill. Like it got to the point it was purely to ride a few rides but I loathed going. Esp knowing the type of parks you tend to like and feelings on others, this park always felt so half assed and dumpy at times, just with caliber rides. In fairness, it's been like 7 years now. Perhaps things have changed. I really should go again. Closely watching to see when Toro opens back up, deff will take a week day off and go asap. I reckon the crowds on an april weekday will be dead, as seems to be confirmed.

Well after all that: Tix go on sale April 5 at noon. Huzzah! Also interesting, I dont believe they usually let it be known ahead of time. Well, I'm excited! Also $40 for pass holders (I assume my platinum covers that) is superb! Tough to beat that deal. -

I mean yeah lol we're all excited for this year but we gotta remember covid aint over.... I even emailed the park a couple weeks ago just with some general questions and they actually wouldn't confirm the event is happening. I followed up with oh I get its a bit away lots up in the air etc but it is on your site, the event is happening correct? To which they said I got they cant say that.... Point being clearly they are playing it safe given everything going on. I'm set already, so I'm going June 4 no matter what lol No need to scramble upon an answer etc all I need is to buy the tix once they go on sale -

It's true. This is why I held off last year (and cost myself 9 parks, 5 new, idk how many new creds) it's really the only way to fully comply with the guidelines. We can wear masks, maintain distance in the park, from the person in front of us in line (we cant control the person behind us) wash etc but there's an inherent risk. We can minimize it and take it, or eliminate it and not go at all. This year, Im willing to take the risk while ofc minimizing it as much as I can, and I will self quarantine when I get back just for total safety. But yeah....if one goes to a park ya really cant talk bc you're taking (and to be frank adding to others) some risk, and I wish all complied, but we know that's not happening. Esp in areas like the South (lived in FL during the 1st waves, then lived inthe Northeast later, huge difference in how people cared/seriously they took it) and this year as the vaccine is rolling. Its not great to think about but it is what it is. -

Plug away! We're a community, we transcend all websites! Oh nice! Pop of airtime better than none! And given I heard it used to be mad janky and violent perhaps it really was a change for the better -

Yeah, I mean I get it...these are not exactly simple toys and it is still kinda early, kinks will always need some time to iron out (and I'm assuming they will be in a month and half from now) but it IS a little odd that after the huge retracking it's running....not terribly consistently and with just 1 train. I guess this is where I wish I knew the engineering aspects....like I have no doubt there are understandable reasons, but to a pleb like me it is like "what's the issue?" "How can there be issues running 2 trains its all RMC, whats the problem?" "I thought the problem was track deterioration, with that resolved why are the trains acting up?/Whats going on?" if anyone knows feel free to let me know! (If don't wanna make it a public thing esp as they tend to draw random debates feel free to PM me) EDIT: On another note. Even some of the not usual grumblers were a bit grumbly about the MM changes. Well, looks like they added trims to the already neutered part? (Note: No idea if active, didn't take photo etc but gotta share) -

IIRC the price wasn't much more than normal, and considering what you get I always felt it more than worth it. This is my first time having a pass, not sure it'll help but that would be even better. Though I'd love for Coastermania tix to go on sale. It's never ran out on me except the year S V opened but I do kinda fear it'll go fast this time/is reduced # -
No clue or guess when it may be open. I HOPE it's by May 23 as that's the weekend I'll be in VA. I'm such a nerd I actually changed my travel plans, I was gunna do FL at the end and head back, but now I'm doing FL first so that way I can give BGW as much time as possible for Pantheon to open XD With testing going on I don't think that's unrealistic, near 2 months from now, but we shall see. I'm pretty excited about the airtime hill while you will be accelerating. I was let down by CHS (I didn't know Mack launches were slow) but looks like you're hauling over that thing. It seems quick too through the stall, whole thing looks to be moving fast. Deff has potential to be a top tier ride.

Yeah I was pretty hyped for this, it had an extra year to build, but after seeing this my hype just hit 11.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KbGyEMuwOY&t=118s Really hope its open by mid-late May. I can bail to KD if it isn't, but I really hope that's not the case. I was torn if I should commit to BGW regardless as I've not been in ages but won't lie...if I'm there and Pantheon is sitting there not open I'll be too sad ha

Nah it deff matters lol I mean its spring break. You're local so its whatever but coming from a distance all about planning the best ya can Eh I've asked every year about the time of year I am planning and I've never gotten anything but "It will be quiet and if not totally quiet the TimeSaver will allow easy marathoning" I aint concerned. Limited capacity also means slower ops, full capacity means more crowd but ya know its not limited, so it all balances out. All will be fine, if its busy thats what TimeSaver is for. Speaking of, so can you buy TimeSaver day of? Would hate to get one before and its unnecessary but not sure if they're usually available day of. -

Naa, two trains don't help it much. It stacks like crazy lol this ride is cursed. Well, I'll hope for the best, but if things seem jammed, can TimeSavers be bought day of?
