The Official "TPR MidWest USA 2007" Trip Thread!

They missed the bus and had to go Greyhound. Dave and Evan made it to the hotel (on time, which is unusual for Greyhound), so they will be joining us for King's Island tomorrow, provided that they get up on time! Kennywood went out of their way for us with ERT on Racer, T-Bolt, and a few extra perks. We also got special permission to take some on-ride pictures/video, and even some behind-the-scenes photo opportunities. We also had some other peeps, including Jow, Chuck, Dave Thomas, and others join us. As for the trash cans, at Cedar Fair parks, the trash cans are all identical and have the bright generic logo on them. At other parks, instead of being the theming, they tend to compliment the theming. If you go to a Disney or Universal park, there will be a lot of trash cans (not as many as a CF park), but they blend with the theming, so they don't stand out as much (though they are still there when you need them) Wes gets some wood! Uber-geeky coaster picture. Can you find where the Arrow track ends and the Morgan track begins? Most of us got the credit without the need to kidnap This sign makes Casey very happy! Kind of creepy looking trash can The Thunderbolt is also a wild terrain woodie We got to do some hand slapping during Racer ERT. I personally prefer Nash, but Racer is still a great woodie -

Here's another brief update In short: The day was much better and operations were much better. Three trains in Draggin' Iron, three trains on Corkscrew, three trains in MilF I rode Magnum in the third row. Ouch! I took over 1000 pictures at CP alone. I might make a Photo TR MF shows its "Gay Pride" colors Did I mention that we are at a Cedar Fair park? The parents were even okay with it Ryan was one of few to get this credit. CP has lots of Arrow rides! CP is on the coast of Lake Erie, and even has a beach. This image is not Photochopped Jahan seems a bit excited to have ridden an Arrow ride -

We were washed out this morning, but the weather has improved. Once the few bands were over, they reopened most of the rides, and I got around half the credits (including MilF, Dragster, Maverick, Draggin' Iron, Wildcat, and a few others) We haven't seen any ghosts in the hotel yet, unfortunately We got wet, and the park was somewhat crowded. Wait time for Dragster was about 1hr later in the day We were kind of hoping to get a tornado credit. Maybe next time -

We're at CP right now. In brief We stayed at SFGAm until 4 and got stuck in traffic for a few hours. We got to CP around 2am, and the county had no power, meaning that we couldn't get into the hotel until around 3 We experienced the Running of the Bulls Maverick tested for a bit, but they didn't open the line It rained, and then it stopped, and rained again, and stopped... I just saved a bunch on my car insurance by riding Viper -

Here are a few things going on: We have lots of pictures of Casey squeezing into things designed for kids, including a few death machines. We upset Zeus (since he wasn't included in ERT last night), so he unleashed his lighting bolts, striking Avalanche (frying all the sensors!) and canceling ERT on Hades and Cyclops. Mt Olympus needs to both pay more attention to maintaining their coasters (many of them had roped off seats, including first row of the back car on Cyclops) rather than denying us rides on Little Titan and have some kind of smoking policy. Back seat of Cyclops = We almost valleyed a Dragon Wagon (a non-powered version) Casey tackled somebody other than Ryan These guys are Red Dawn Awesome! -

Here's a handful of pictures I've taken in no particular order. I have hundreds more, but will probably do a full TR later. Also, one word: Fascination! We also had Kentucky Rumbler ERT. We even had the good folks from GCI come out to operate the ride We had ERT on Cornball Express. While not the greatest coaster in the world, it had some nice moments of airtime Casey managed to fit into the Pinfari Death Machine at Beech Bend And there was some pounding going on We got to ride this coaster. How's it going Joe? Since there seems to be much demand, we did have ERT on the SLC! Bugs and Daffy got in a fight (you may see some video of this soon) -

^Or they can bring back the G-train (which went on to tear up RWB). Carl (Homer) got one injury from it. I heard that when it was first built, Holiday World consulted ACErs in building it and theming. I'm sure if they put it in a Six Flags or Cedar Fair park, it would get more attention from enthusiasts. -

We just got back from Holiday World. Many of us are going to try and sleep, so don't expect much of an update. Yes, we did break Voyage, and Raven too! Also: Ryan pounded the Holidog Raven at night rocks Balder > Voyage (IMO) Free drinks are great, even if they are Pepsi products Trainload of TPR peeps stranded on the brake run of Voyage -
I actually used to have a tie-dye Gwarzi shirt. I don't know where it is now, but I will have my TPR shirts for the Midwest trip. May I can meet some of these "girls" that everyone speaks of. Also, I don't think ACE shirts or patch jackets work well (though the more baggage you have, the bigger the jacket, and the more acreage for coaster patches)

Walt Disney World - cameras

^ If I recall correctly, you can't take pictures/video on MILF either -
Walt Disney World - cameras

Disney's usually quite relaxed about filming on rides. As said above, just try and avoid using the flash or video lighting, and in cases where there is the potential for copyright violation. I did, however, get asked to put the camera away while filming in RnRC's queue line (not sure why, but I did put it away) -

A few thoughts: Any sign of Solomon? Was it moved or demolished Yay for a Wacky Worm. I'm assuming it isn't the same one that was there before I also noticed a powered coaster I would be interested to see if this place takes off and adds more permanent attractions. Sort of reminds me of Coney Beach in some ways (ie. portable rides in a parking lot) -

I don't have much trouble with time zones and jet lag (when crossing the Atlantic, I 'skip' the night. Travelling from east to west is very easy for me. Daylight Savings, on the other hand, is not worth the trouble. I need to move to one of those states that don't have DST. -

Forget the Yeti, it's Jeff-On-A-Stick! And yes, it's a new credit too. Touched up a little since my first version -
Aside from all our international members and those in different time zones, I sometimes post late at night if its been a late night at work or I'm having trouble falling asleep (which is quite common for me)

Help IDing this Coaster...
WillMontu replied to vistaway's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I believe that is actually a Boomerang (based on the structure of the lift in the background), as a lot of the older ones use Arrow trains. -
Great Coasters on The Discovery Channel

Wow. That's OLD Gwazi footage! Looks like it will be one of the better Discovery coaster shows out there -
Wild Adventures....worth going?
WillMontu replied to stevenpensacola's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree on that the Boomerang is probably the best ride they have there (besides the donkeys behind the SLC). The SLC is a little rough, but not as rough as most of the other ones out there. -
What coaster would you rebuild?

Coney Island back in the day Palisades Park Hey Ryan, did you get the flux capacitor working yet? -
Mine was snagged from Barry's video footage of Liseberg from the TPR UK 2006 trip. We're on Balder doing the Gator Chomp. I'm the one on the right, and I believe LarryGator is the one on the left. If you look closely, we have the ride ops behind us enjoying the ride too.

About time, and seven years overdue! I guess that means that I don't have to Photochop it out anymore or spend time trying to find the perfect angle to take a picture of it now.
