Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
rcjp replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Patriot is taller than Raptor... I know. What I meant was this: right now the tallest and fastest invert is in Cedar Point and, probably, the next tallest and fastest one will also be there and I can only see CP adding a new invert when one of the two they have is removed and raptor is the most likely to be that one, I wasn't really saying they will never build taller than raptor while it is operating. I'm guessing KI will go for the speed and height record among full-circuit inverts while Wicked Twister remains the tallest and fastest overall. -

^That's true, I don't remember seeing Wicked Twister being advertised as the world's tallest and fastest inverted coaster maybe because it is not that comparable to full-circuit inverts such as B&Ms and even intamin ones like volcano, if it were, they wouldn't have added it with raptor standing so close. That said, as DanM64 mentioned, it wouldn't be that much of a surprise to see KI coming up with a slightly smaller and slower invert which, despite meaning the coaster could still be great, is really a shame as it would mean we would have to wait until cedar point ditches raptor (which they shouldn't, at least soon) to see a record breaking coaster in a cedar fair park. -

And its construction started, if I'm not mistaken, before gatekeeper. As it really seems to be an invert I do hope they go for a height and maybe speed record, Alpengeist goes 67 mph with a 170 ft drop and does anyone know what is the fastest inverted coaster around? Is it an intamin impulse one? Anyway, if they go for the height record it shouldn't be that hard to go for the speed one too. However, more importantly, I would really like to see some B&M old-school like forcefulness and intensity that makes some of their older inverts so awesome. Fingers crossed -
Just watched world War Z. I'm not usually very attracted by the zombie theme but this one turned out to be pretty decent. It has quite a few suspense moments as well as raw action ones. A rather nice package, overall.

Rides you would ameliorate?
rcjp replied to CPmillenia94's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Of course! I could I forget YOLOcoaster? I think I would add something like a kind of figure of eight layout a bit like skyrush does, with some nice airtime hills and banked close to the ground forceful turns -

^ ^It's just one of those sometimes irrational fears people have that you can't really do anything to stop and that people will annoyingly continue to have. Like flying, everyone knows it is safer than driving but if there is a minor accident everyone will panic. Sadly though, these people are the majority compared to informed coaster enthusiasts so there's not much we can do. -
Insane Coaster Wars Season Two!

That's true but it also brings a bit of a problem 'cause she said she would just give a score of 100 in every aspect of X2 because it was "her coaster" so that's not entirely fair either. -

Oh, I'm glad to know. I was afraid they would be more like light positive Gs rather than actual airtime. -

^ Interesting, it is exactly the same here where I live (a portuguese city called Coimbra), even the terrible sun part applies. -

A little bit off topic, I was watching a few gatekeeper videos and I noticed (because there was a woman with long hair sitting in front of the person who filmed one of them) that the camelback hill was clearly providing some airtime and so was the entry to the MCBR as well as that last little hill before the brakes. I remember a lot of people saying that when they rode it close to the opening date none of these places provided airtime. Now I'm just not sure whether it was running particularly fast the day when some recent videos were taken or if is really has been getting slightly faster as the time passes. One thing's fore sure, overall it does look faster now than it did when it opened. Just hope it stays this way! -

^I actually had imagined YoloCoaster like track for a invert/sitdown dueling coaster before! However, I don't think this will be the case at all, but who knows. -

^ It isn't just you, it does really seem pretty fast compared to other videos, specially in the overbanked turns. Can't wait to make my first trip to Cedar Point in August! -
Agree, it is one of the movies that made me laugh the most, just to that point where it gets nearly painful. And it is by far my favourite Monty Python film. P.S NI!

Rides you would ameliorate?
rcjp replied to CPmillenia94's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
One of the first things I think of is how little track there is after the MCBR on Shambhala, Portaventura. I think that, at the very least I would add a 540 degree helix after the MCBR like the one in Nitro or Behemoth. Oh, and I would also remove the magnetic trim and stop the chain lift from slowing down at the top as the extra bit of speed would be enough to provide more decent airtime as there are some hills (specially the first) where it's more like zero g rather than actual negative g. I would also extend both TTD and Kingda Ka, not necessarily giving it a long layout like Millennium Force but a more compact, fast and intense one like Intimidator 305. For me, the first lift hill on the smiler could be made vertical and feature a beyond vertical drop and the second one replaced with a short powerful launched as Gerstlauer demonstrated they can do. As to other rides in general, I think I would ditch all trims and (when possible) MCBR which could be replaced with airtime hills, for instance. -

Probably around 20 or so on Superman at Parque Warner Madrid. -

Does the stingray type count? If so, yes. Will B&M ever build a launched coaster again?

Strongest/Most forcefull Launch
rcjp replied to verticalzero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^It certainly does. But I don't think compressed air launches have been completely "outmoded" as S&S have been using it in some of their new coasters. Sadly, they're all in Asia. It's just a type of launch that, unfortunately, never took on with other manufacturers.
