It's great for KC area waterpark fans, Oceans of Fun will have to up the ante with Schitterbahn on the Kansas side. -

Memphis Children's Museum announced an 8,000 square ft. water play area just the other day. I'm sure you did your research on Adventure River. Chattanooga seems to be a good location, have you studied Northwest Arkansas? Home of Walmart, Tyson foods, J.B. Hunt trucking. Two areas that would stand out is around the newer DoubleA ballpark with lots of open land in Springdale and land adjacent to I-540 in Lowell, centrally located between Benton and Washington Counties. The area has withstood the economy rather well all things considered. Fayetteville and this region consistantly makes ten best lists of business publications. -

Those are great things for municipalities that don't have private enterprise filling the bill. I don't know the demographics of the area, but it seems that private enterprises are covering the bases. -

According to Swoosh that runs Midwestinfo guide this is the first of three major projects at SDC and the cheapest. The second he sez offers some relocations from Celebration City and thinks the third may be a next gen Mystery Mine. Interested to see what makes the second phase more expensive than just moving two small scale rides from CC. -
Thanks for sharing. That rock work was a major part of that ride and I too have fond memories of it. I've rode its twin at Six Flags St. Louis where it started out at, the coaster itself at Opryland, and it's home today, Magic Springs. Same for the woodie from Boardwalk and Baseball and now Magic Springs. I've not yet rode Hangman at Wild Adventures. Rock N' Roller Coaster had no relation to the mine train at Six Flags St. Louis. You are probably thinking of Dollywood here. They received one of the mine trains from Six Flags St. Louis (Thunder Express) and it is now located at Magic Springs (Big Bad John). Opryland's Rock N' Roller Coaster is now at Great Escape. Yep, sorry, It's easy cause when I hit Opryland it was usually in route to Pigeon Forge.

I stayed at the Opryland Hotel this past weekend. My first thought is that they could add another wing with and indoor park like the Mall of America that catered to families. They had booths set up for met and greets with Dreamworks based Sherik. Along with the recent announcement that Gaylord is partnering with Herchend to build a waterpark and snow park there, it seems like a no brainer. The hotel was booked full the entire weekend and the Opry was sold out with the Marshall Tucker Band headlining and a Tim McGraw/Kenny Chesney concert that we attended at LP Field downtown on Saturday nite. There was tons of empty parking around the place, meaning expansion room. The Mall is new and improved since reopening after the flood. the Bass Pro is blah but the mall was mostly full with most all outlet mall storefronts represented and anchored on both ends by a Imax and regular theater, Dave and Busters, an Aquarium restuarant, Fridays, Claim Jumpers, Chuys, and a Rainforest Cafe. All the place is missing is rides and water slides. Nashville is building a very large convention center downtown that's impressive to the eye. As a Kid, I thought that Libertyland one up'ed Opryland cause Revolution had a corkscrew and loop and Zippin Pippin was the bomb. Grizzly River was my first rapids ride and I loved it, though.

I'm 6' 2, 275lbs, with a 56in chest. I wear size 36 jeans. I have no belly the overhangs my waist. Wildfire at SDC is a chore. It's due to my chest. The over the head restraints are fine till the buckle needs to snap. They have to push down on the over the head. To say its snug is an understatement and that's in the 'big' seats. No other coaster is such a pain than B&Ms with the over the shoulder/buckle combo. A simple fix would be an adjustable belt on the buckle for those with thick chests. -
This is Memphis and Tulsa part duex. Libertyland once had the minor league stadium and a busy MidSouth Colusium right next door. If a family went to check out the circus or disney on ice, Libertyland was right next door. That's all downtown now. This why I pimp Mud island for rides. Drillers have now abandoned the Tulsa fairgrounds fro downtown with the new arena as well and Bell's is shut. Guns shows, gun show and rv shows at thge Expo. Yeah..........

Don't forget the Tulsa State Fair Board. Fair Boards and amusement parks just don't mix anymore. Sad since it's such a win-win when things are actually done right. They've thrown millions in annual tax earnings down the drain from this poor management. Shame no one is paying attention. Tulsa is another.

Lots of folks were thinking this had more of an out and back feel but I'm thinking its getting a twisty vibe to it down in the ravine. -

Tunnels would be great but I think they need landscaped entrances to look like caves. Outlaws often used caves in the Ozarks for hideouts some it themes right in. -
What area really needs a theme park?

It's all about location, it doesn't need to be near neighborhoods and it doesn't need to sell season passes. Mud Island is controlled access with a pedestrian bridge across the harbor with the option of the monorail. The problem in Memphis is letting groups take something over. There isn't a politically correct way to address it properly but if you let the youth take it over it will not succeed. There's several theming routes. On the southern tip, I say go for something named after a faded Memphis event called the Cotton Carnival and theme the rides to Memphis' music heritage. A Ferris wheel themed to the Sun Records label, a star flyer themed after Stax. Too late to save Elvis's favorite coaster the Zippin Pippin but another ride that's themed for him like a Rock and Roll/himalaya type ride. Most rides would go to the north end but south of the bridge. Coaster names from Rivercat or Mudcat for woodie to Ol Muddy for a flume and The Big One for a steel coaster paying homage to the New Madrid Fault line. A Memphis Belle themed area with a simulated ride inside it on a bombing run complete with actors Manning guns and shaking from flak. A flat ride with replica Memphis Bell themed cars. Water battle areas themed after the civil war era Battle of Memphis. Something Tom and Huck is a must for a park on the Mississippi. Most of Mud Island isn't natural but man made. It can be added to a bit and raised strategically to make sure vitals stay out of flood water. Last year gives them the templete for that. -

It would be a good repurpose of the building considering the summer heat and opportunity for a year round operation. I am watching the work of gutting the Pyramid Arena in Memphis of its former 22,000seat self for the Bass Pro developement. Google Ericson Group Pyramid to see their proposal for the interior of the Pyramid that wasn't chosen and imagine what they could do with the Astrodome. -

Memphis. Libertyland's location was poor and was used as a babysitter. Two major interstates north/south I55 and east/west I 40 with I 69 planned and a highly visible location that can be seen from both. Mud Island. Compact high thrill rides like Iron Shark and Boardwalk Bullet. To make efiecient use of limited space, rides must intermingle like indoor Parks and coasters /water rides in outdor Parks like that new airtime flume with the bobsled coaster. The place already has some major infrastructure in place like parking decks, trams and cool features like the river walk which is a small scale replica of the entire Mississippi River System and a River Museum that can be switched to an up charge feature and kick ass 6,000 permanent seat amplitheater offering a fantastic skyline backdrop. Recent addition of A new port for River cruises and riverfront park called Beale Street Landing and upcoming conversion of the Pyramid into a Bass Pro complete with a hotel, indoor swamp, indoor Marina and silliness going in just across the harbor. -

Midwest Info Guide has new photos showing the drop hill has been topped and the footers down in the ravine that's going to make for an impressive drop. Having seen the construction first hand , the photos do not show the depth of the ravine well.
