  1. Memphis City govt. at the time should have be tarred and feathered. Should have done what Green Bay did on Mud Island like was suggested by many. That's my first roller coaster and likely have over 500 rides on it and near as many on the old Arrow Revolution.
  2. The Schlitterbahn slide was pretty much a first view at the plans for most.
  3. The new Masterblaster slide at Schlitterbahn Kansas City is supposed to be featured. Tallest and Fastest in the World?
  4. OzCat was built on flat ground and is fairly compact. SDC may have been out of the question but at the time CC was shut down but Herschend has other parks and manages others. It was only 4 years old and still riding great. Guess they may have owed too much on the park overall and valued it more for tax depreciation. CC was a bad concept. It needed later hours, free admission, more nightlife oriented activities like a bowling alley instead of more shows, perhaps an aquarium and a franchised sit down restaurant or two. Rides by ticket or wristbands with a hotel with an indoor waterpark and maybe some indoor flats with a wildmouse to make it viable year round. Think a Downtown Disney and Kemah boardwalk. With Old Time Christmas SDC is only shut down from early Jan to late March.
  5. 540 is pretty scenic with a tunnel to boot. Just drove up it at sunset today from going to the Memphis Zoo, The Pandas were kicking back and relaxing. Can't wait for the start of the Zambezi themed Hippo exhibit gets going. Smaller zoo but pound for pound one of the best in the Nation.
  6. Info on the Thursday discount http://www.silverdollarcity.com/offers/30-Dollar-Thursdays.aspx?sf12567725=1 Also show a $40 dollar admission for select days in May
  7. I think they are running a Thursday special and it even qualifiesfor the next day free promo if purchased after a certain time. check their facebook to make sure.
  8. I think it should be noted again that if it's the controls and sensors, this maybe the stuff they got off of Oz Cat. Might not have anything to do with RMC.
  9. I live south of OKC and I take 35 to 44 and then south on 65 into Branson . 5 hours tops. North Dallas is 2.5 hours straight south on 35 from me. I can't imagine a better route. OK turnpikes are 75mph so is i35 north of Denton to OK border. Most folks here in Fayetteville get to Dallas in under 6 hrs. We have a very larger student pop at the U of A from the Metroplex and it's growing as we offer in state tuition to qualified students from there. But your route is all interstate for the most part so that is a plus.
  10. ' Then there's the Bass Pro mothership in Springfield. PM me and I'll try to explain the best way to get to 412 from 540 without going through Springdale, which is very stop and go with traffic.
  11. You know someone else has mentioned or let's say hinted that is bigger than Outlaw Run and # 2 on the three major projects list with Outlaw Run being the first.
  12. I would take I-44 to Springfield. I talked to some Dallas people at the park last summer that went through Arkansas and they said it took forever. This. I made that same trip for the media event...took almost 8 hours. Lots of two lane roads. OK, if he is coming 540 from 40. Again take 412. Weather you avoid Springdale, by going through Fayetteville to get the the east side of Springdale, it is 4 lane to nearly Huntsville now, there it's two lane to Alpena. that's about a 35 mile stretch but there's some passing areas that's been installed in the past couple of years. Once to Alpena, it's four lane divided the rest of the trip to Branson, From Alpena to 65 at Harrison is about fifteen miles, and from 65 to Branson it's 25 to 30ish. Using Atl traffic 265 will bypass the strip from the south and as an added bonus he crosses Table Rock Dam. Going to Joplin to Springfield and back down saves no time, I've done it. It's just the unfamiliarity of the 2 lane that makes it seem long. Under no circumstance would I take meandering 62 from 540 to Berryville to Kimberling City to SDC. I'd rather pull my teeth. That is all two lane and usually with a good bit of traffic. If the poster wanted to go through Kimberling City, Still go 412 and there's two ways to get to Arkansas 21/Mo13 but it's two lanes either way but better than 62 unless the man wants to experience Eureka Springs It's never more than 2 hrs from my home in Fayetteville to SDC even with a grandma or a rv getting in the way from time to time. I've made this trip around a hundred times.
  13. I would take US 412 at Springdale and go east on 412 to US 65 just north of Harrison, once across the Ark/Mo state line use the alternate route 265 over Table Rock Damn to 76 then a left on 76 and you are basically there. Kimberling City route is best used on days you know the traffic backs up coming from the east on 76 but it's all two lane or city four lane from 540. I'm just a local that's gone every way possible and I'd avoid Springdale and get to 412 by cutting through North Fayetteville. If you go 412, and I would, and you like fried anything, stop at Kings River Store at Marble just past Huntsville. Again, if you like art and you are passing through this area, Crystal Bridges in Bentonville is a must and it's free thanks to the Waltons.
  14. I don't know what other choice they have. Without some great additions this will fall flat on its face once the novelty of the park reopening wears off and people realize it has far less than it had before. They shouldn't install B&M's entire catalog on year 1, but they definitely need rides. If I were them, I'd try to get Thunder Run into peak condition and then try to get a good, modern steel coaster because Holiday World doesn't have that. An Intamin Mega Lite would be perfect, but I doubt that's in the budget. Ring, ring Hello, this is Rocky Mountain Coasters. Yeah, RMC I have a dueling wooden coaster that needs a complete overhaul, you up for the challenge?
  15. I think with Herschend managing the place, things like that would be unlikely, but then again Oz Cat rots. I think that's all still tied up in court and the manufacturers for each ride have liens on them. I think that's why nothing has left that park. If only they built that park as part of Hard Rock Casino's Biloxi footprint, It may have suffered a different fate.
  16. I'm wondering when Mack's suspended spinner makes an appearance somewhere.
  17. Why Herschend hasn't moved the one at Celebration City to SDC is vexing. So many ways to theme it in and take up basically zero real estate.
  18. You mean assembly plant, it's just north of there. It's where my truck rolled off the line.
  19. Just a couple more major rides and SDC is an elite park. The park has really been putting in the work to be a complete park. I don't think folks outside the region that visit often realize the amount of live entertainment this park put on. 10 years ago the rides were just scarce. So sad to see OzCat continue to languish at Celebration City just down the road from bad timing to start a park at the start of a major recession.
  20. There's a nice little spot of land between the sky coaster and the retention ponds. Was this where the water part of the original expansion plans was to take place?
  21. Grandfather's Mansion is one of the oldest attractions in the park.
  22. It was running today according to a poster at SDCfans.com. It was in the upper thirties for most of the day and other coaster were down due to the temp but OR was running with little wait. It was a January-esque day in the Ozarks, cloudy, light off and on rain, good wind to make it a little less hospitable. The City is never fully up and running for the Spring Break crowd, the shows are not open yet and several shops aren't open yet either. SDC is not your typical amusement park for those that haven't been. It's got lots of shops and more shows and music than you realize. It's not a Six Flags or a Cedar Fair operation. Dollywood is close as it was once branded a Silver Dollar City but it's not a twinkie anymore. It seems Herschend is going to put some money into SDC over the next decade so it's going to add to it's ride collection.
