Having lived in Ventura County since 1986, I'm all too familiar with the weather around here. My office is just off of Hueneme Rd. in Oxnard, and when it's nice and sunny upon leaving home, it's yucky when I reach work. Just the nature of life in Ventura County! Whatever, it was nice that you got out to the beach with the kids, though. My girls are living it up in Hawaii this week. Diana's been jet skiing, parasailing, and really enjoying herself. I wish I could have joined them, but...well, I won't go into that here... Eric

^ I grew up on SFMM's woodies---I'm ruined! Seriously, a ride like the Santa Cruz Giant Dipper is what a woodie should be like. It's a bit rough, but expected with a wooden track. It's well taken care of and has always delivered. In my opinion, woodies were never meant to be as big as some of them are getting. And parks are cutting corners to save money, so maintenance suffers. So does the ride. Eric

Y'know, just looking at those Freefall cars sitting out by Scream! makes me wonder why they wouldn't put them somewhere backstage? This reminds me of how last year I saw an entire Gold Rusher train (No. 4, in fact) sitting off to the left of the stairs going up to Scream!'s station. Theme park-wise, nothing is worse show than having broken down/disassembled rides out for all to see. Imagine Disneyland leaving to-be-rehabbed Doom Buggies under Mulholland Madness because they had nowhere else to put them. Of course, there's not exactly any theming going on there---especially in that area. I guess there is no more backstage space at SFMM, so they have to leave their ride parts laying out. Eric

These markers are sure covering a wide range of territory within the park. For some reason, I can't see this new ride going all over the place. Perhaps some of the markers designate other things that need to be done; power lines, sprinklers, etc., who knows? Since I don't speak construction-ese, I certainly couldn't tell you what anything written on those stakes could mean. Eric

Yeah, I have one of those "Clubs" in my car and it would indeed make a nice weapon. Fortunately, I've yet to use it as such. About 20 years ago, we saw a guy in a big rig swerve his trailer into a small pickup because the smaller truck "wouldn't get out of his way." The guy in the smaller truck pulled over to survey the damage (the trailer clipped his front end), so we pulled over behind him because we'd seen the entire incident and wanted to help. The guy was most appreciative and gave us his number so we could stay in touch in the event of any legal action. In those days, there weren't cell phones everywhere, so we had to get to a payphone and call the California Highway Patrol. Unfortunately, when we gave a description of the big rig and a brief report as to what had happened, all CHP said was that "they could do nothing because one of their officers hadn't seen the incident firsthand." WHAT?!?!? Here we are describing someone at the wheel of a potentially deadly weapon, and they could do "nothing?" Despite their lack of action, we still agree that reporting such incidents to law enforcement is the best thing to do rather than trying to go after the idiot. Eric
