  1. i dont get it What part didn't you get? The Aquaman:The Bench joke? (I was wondering how many people would actually remember that 11 year old joke ...) But hey, the colors do match.
  2. Wait guys ... yellow, orange, blue, green, and black? I totally know what they are getting! See:
  3. For what it's worth, from what I figured based off various stats, the listed height of 'Giant Drop' (390 feet) includes the entire tower, whereas 'Tower of Terror II' doesn't 'Tower of Terror' measures 377 feet to the top of the track. In the picture below you can see that the riders of 'Giant Drop' are just below the top of the track. So, let's just figure that the total drop of 'Giant Drop' is 370 feet. This means that in order for 'Lex Luthor' to be a greater drop, it can be as much as 44 feet blow the top of the tower. And from what it looks, it's less of a distance than that. Additional thoughts - ** Superman is 415 feet to the top of the track (and tower). Subtract 377 and that puts the horizontal track 38 feet over your head when you walk under it. That seems about right **
  4. There is a roof on all four sides of the tower with just enough room for the ride vehicles to exit and enter.
  5. If the park was smart, they would get rid of cable and upgrade to DirecTV.
  6. Replace company logos with donkeys. Problem solved.
  7. What I loved about Whirlpool was the round window on the front of the building, next to the queue. When riding I loved to make faces at the people in line looking in.
  8. Ah yes, "The Insider" and "Gooses Realm of Insanity." It's crazy to think that all this started (for me) more than 12 years ago in late 1999. I was visiting Magic Mountain and wondered what they were building. At that point only a few supports were going up for the ride. I asked and an employee told me a restaurant. Knowing he was full of it, I googled (yes, I used google) about SFMM and came across the forum for Gooses site. From there the craziness started. Ah, I do miss the days of Gooses Realm of Insanity, Americacoasters, Rollercoasterz.com, etc.
  9. Looks like the building that housed Whirlpool. The ride was later renamed "Headspin" when they converted the area to The Boardwalk. The ride was relocated and the building was removed to make way for Perilous Plunge. Also known as Wilderness Scrambler when it was moved to the Wild Water Wilderness area. Or is it something else? EDIT: Okay, I did remember correctly. Here is an image of the ride/building that I just googled. What a darn good match too! (the fact it happens to be done up for Haunt) Image courtsey of: http://bear-ytales.blogspot.com
  10. Guys, I know that deep down you all love dirt. Here are a couple panoramic images of the Log Jammer site from yesterday. WARNING: Dirt Overload
  11. Interesting that the song used in the "Go BiG Update 13 - 3D" video posted a few pages back is the same one that Magic Mountain used for the Deja Vu Promo video back in 2000.
  12. It depends on the clientele. Goliath can carry as many as 30 G's.
  13. What I'll miss most about Log Jammer is the awesome head-chopper it created while riding Gold Rusher. It's something I didn't really think about initially ... but yeah, oh well.
  14. ^ As of two weekends ago, nothing was left. Just some trees and busted up concrete where the lazy river was. I'm sure with how fast things are going, there is nothing left at this point. On Christmas weekend everything to the right of the park entrance was gone. Half of the hill remained. The following weekend the hills was gone and was a giant hole. Everything to the left of the entrance looks almost the same (except the summer camp was totally gone). Two weeks later, everything was how I described it earlier. I have a lot of pictures that I've been meaning to post here. I'll get around to it shortly.
  15. You know, that's one thing that I've been wondering... Water parks built in the '70s and '80s had lot of rides built from concrete and foam (e.g. Surf Hill/Congo River Rapids). What I was wondering is if these rides are no longer built because of legal/code reasons or if it's just more economical to build the rides you see today with steel towers and fiberglass slides. What was so nice about Wild Rivers is that most of the major rides were built on a single hill. Walking up concrete paths, with some stairs, and being surrounded by vegetation really gave the park a natural feel. It was nice to be out in the sun, just walking around and hop from ride to ride. The water parks I see built today are usually on flat land with a bunch of steel towers. So much of your time is spent winding up stairs, surrounded by steel, in the shade, sometimes cold ... just very disconnected from everything else around you. I really hope that the new park is able to do some of the things that the old one did. If anything, give me a new Bombay Blasters.
  16. ^^ Exactly. The park was very unique. I loved how I could just walk up a hill to get to a slide, and not a bunch of stairs. And while most of the rides were too old to be saved, not all of them were. The Abyss was still in fairly good condition. The supports could have easily been modified to fit a new landscape. Bombay blasters could be dug up and set aside as well. Though, this would all mean they would have to build the new park on a hill. Something I have a feeling they won't be doing. The land they are looking at is over by the old marine base. That land is flat. But I guess nothing is stopping them from building a hill again ... I'm also hearing that the new park will not be called Wild Rivers. The company that owns Wild Rivers recently built a water park Temecula called "Splash Canyon." It's been suggested that the new park in Irvine will take this name. Personally, I hope they keep the Wild Rivers name. It's part of the community identity.
  17. Wow ... absolutely surreal. To think it was only few months ago that I was there enjoying all those slides from my youth. I knew the park was going away, but not in this fashion ... not this quick. I really thought that some of the rides would be saved. At least The Abyss. And the other really disappointing thing is knowing that all the original structures from Lion Country will be demolished as well. To me, that's a part of the (very little) history that Irvine has. All this so they can build apartments next to a concert venue. And then, of course Verizon will make way for more homes as well. This really sucks for the residents of South OC. There really won't be anything left to do. Hopefully they are granted land for a new park in Irvine.
  18. HAHA! I came in here to make an RC Cola comment. I always do when I see a Coke vs Pepsi discussion. And yes, I like Royal Crown more than Coke or Pepsi. I grew up going to a Round Table Pizza that has it on fountain. So good!
  19. Another fire? Chucky's at it again, I see.
  20. Actually, They'd be down 3 COASTERS 1- Greased Lightnin' 2- Stealth 3- Invertigo - 3 + 1 = 2 I really hope CF invests in CGA and turns the place around. It could easily be the top park in the area. By no means is SFDK a bad park, but it me it lacked the charm of Great America.
  21. ... you started a thread called "you might be a coaster nerd if ..."
  22. Well, there's a Dollar Tree down the road ...
  23. I'd call myself the United States Department of the Treasury
  24. Ah, okay. Yeah, it's nice to see SFDK get something new. I wonder if it knocked over any lawn chairs.
