  1. Dude. . I wasn't "Stretching to counter you" get over yourself. so I used a description that might not be accurate? Stunt Coaster is still another coaster that's a LIM launch. . so you saying the park has a poor coaster line up is still an idiotic statement. the only thing that would make it stronger is a suspended (since they lost that with Volcano)
  2. it's low to the ground, so that was the best I could come up with. hey. . concrete can be a terrain
  3. oh. . I forgot about Switchback Railway. I've ridden that too. I guess if I squint, you could count FoF too tho (it DID open 1st, so was the 1st of it's kind. . tho that does fall under my grouping of "Spaghetti Bowl" coasters. There are only 5 in the world, and I've been on 3, and after my 1st visit to Kings Island, that number will be up to 4 out of 5). But will also get Beast (longest wooden coaster, right? and the Mystic Timbers shed. .LOL)
  4. I got to thinking about this while posting in the CP thread - where one poster has no interest in riding Wilderness Run if the opportunity presents itself. no judgement on that - tho it got me thinking: I've *never* counted the number of coasters I've been on, that part has never interested me. But I always have made note of rides I've been on that have historical significance. really. I've been lucky enough to live in Texas (how often does one hear that???) where I was able to experience a lot of 1st's of their kind. But I've also made a point to ride things that I know are historically important. (I'm not talking about "rare" rides - such as a Premier Spaghetti bowl (only 5 in the world), or an Ultra Twister, or even a Derby Racer (hello Cedar Downs), that are hard to get to. I'm talking about "the first" or "rarest"). things I've ridden of note: Wilderness Run (ridden at CP) - the very first Intamin Roller Coaster. El Dorado Carousel (ridden at Tosihmaen in Japan) - the oldest surviving 3 ring Carousel. (carved in 1902, it became the Steeplechase carousel in Coney Island, after surviving the Dreamland fire in 1911, and moved to Japan after Steeplechase park closed in 1964) El Aserradero (ridden at Six Flags Over Texas. . and flume 1 just reopened after decades for the park's anniversary) - the worlds 1st Log Flume ride, built by Arrow. Runaway Mine Train (ridden at Six Flags Over Texas) - the worlds 1st mine train coaster, with tubular steel track, built by Arrow New Texas Giant (ridden at Six Flags Over Texas) - the 1st RMC converted coaster. Batman (ridden at Six Flags Fiesta Texas) - the first S&S FreeSpin coaster Wonder Woman Golden Lasso Coaster (ridden at Six Flags Fiesta Texas) - the first RMC Raptor/single rail coaster Volcano (ridden at Kings Dominion) - First complete-circuit, LIM-launched inverted coaster by Intamin Millennium Force (ridden at CP) - worlds first Giga Coaster (over 300ft) Montezooma's Revenge (ridden at Knott's Berry Farm) - the last remaining Shuttle Loop still in it's original installation site. Steel Dragon 2000 (ridden at Nagashima Spaland) - the longest coaster in the world. Dodonpa (ridden at Fuji Q) - the coaster with the fasted acceleration in the world. (until Shellraiser had opened, I could have listed Takabisha at Fuji Q as the steepest drop in the world). I've been on the 2nd tallest coaster - TTD, but until I can make it to Kingda Ka? that will remain elusive - until someone builds that 500 foot one. Tho TTD was the first Strata Coaster (over 400 ft) so. . what "historical" rides have you been on?
  5. y'all are still having a big of a rough go with Covid and getting everyone vaccinated - so I understand. i have friends coming for Con at end of July, and they aren't sure they'll be able to cross the border, as no announcement on lifting restrictions has happened yet. I feel for y'all in Vancouver (and all across Canada).
  6. 1) Grammar is important 2) Maybe read the whole post before you attempt to (incorrectly) summarize a discussion? After all, the original comment ends noting they have a lot of land, and expresses enthusiasm for what might be built there.
  7. just remember. . the one at 5 points is "family friendly" (ie: touristy) the one on Peachtree (only 5 MARTA stops down from the Peachtree Center stop where the Con is), is way more adult in both decor, and waitstaff interaction. That's our favorite. KILLER drinks too. it just wouldn't be a trip to Atlanta without a stop at Vortex for some amazing food, some good comedy (if a show is going on in the attached comedy club), and a rub on the Phallus shrine for luck completely honest. . the moment our entire "core" group gets checked in across the various hotels? we head out to Vortex for a meal. (and thruout con end up going back with friends here and there as they missed the initial meal, and wanna go) here are pics from a couple of visits from 2019 (the last Dragon*con they had before 2020 went virtual)
  8. the Aquarium is very worth it (but I wouldnt' give up a night of the con to do the "Aquarium night". . we just go the day before con starts, or on Tuesday. . . on Labor Day, I blow off con and go to SFOG, but since they will be open during the week this time (!), will prolly go Wednesday or Thursday during the day. as to Vortex? I'll be there at LEAST 3 times during the week I'm in Atlanta (not the 5 points location, but the Peachtree one). .their food is simply that good, and the place that much fun.
  9. For comparison. . here's the official POV for Wilderness Run (and note they refer to it as a kiddie coaster in the description) Let the kids take a virtual ride on Wilderness Run! Sit back, relax and enjoy this POV on this popular kiddie coaster. and here's Woodstock Express, which is a Junior coaster, and is described thusly: Woodstock Express is the perfect ride for your roller-coaster-riders in training! Sit back and enjoy the speedy bends and hills. it's interesting that they are right across the walkway (maybe 20 feet) from each other.
  10. I dunno if there's anything official. . but here's my take. as Bill said: Junior pretty much any age from 2-3 and up can ride, and they are designed with seats large enough to fit parents. Kiddie, they are meant for the much littler kiddos, maybe barely walking age? another difference is that a Kiddie coaster doesn't tend to do much more than go in a small figure 8 (if that), but a Junior coaster has tracks that mimic the Adult rides, just at a smaller scale. just my take.
  11. I don't really "cosplay" on my own.. . despite the pics of me dressed as things. . mostly it's just thrown together stuff for a themed party. tho occasionally I will (such as Courtney Love, or the Justice Bowling League). this year, Marcella has an idea for a genderflipped group for the Bunny Hutch party - and myself, Travis, and Neal will be her "males" . . can't say much because she'd kill me if someone steals her idea. . but should be fun.
  12. heh. .and since I was mentioning how long I've been going, I actually just found some old pics that I sent to a friend for a scrapbook on con. so here are pics of me at Dragon*con in 1997 & 1998 (tho some have sadly passed, or I've lost touch with? I'm still very good friends with many of these folks) LTR: Marce, Jane, Josh, Me, Roy (R.I.P.), & Travis. . . other than Jane (and Roy of course), I room with these folks and hang with them every year (Marce & Travis are from Canada) - so a 24+ year friendship) I'm my superhero "the helping Hand". . think this one is from ~2003 ? Cosplaying Courtney Love (~2004 maybe?) with my friends LtR: Michelle, Meg, me, and a horrified friend of Meg's and one from 2002 ( I can tell because Roy is alive still, and I have my arm around my Ex, Chip. . and Nick and I met in Jan 2004).. . still lifelong friends LtR: Roy (R.I.P.), Neal (Canada), Angus (Canada), Marcella (she and Neal are now married, we went to their wedding in Vancouver), Anjeanne (Roy's wife)(Lousianna), Travis (Canada), Jane (Seattle), Ricky hugging her (Canada), Lisa & her husband Mike in the back (Atlanta), and me with my arm around Chip (who lived in Huntsville at the time).
  13. thanks. LOL.. I was wondering why this thread came back up today. . but then I got my email from Dragon*con reminding it's 100 days away! so it's for certain happening, tho I'm assuming there will be some crowd control and not many "official" parties this year. Last year had to be digital, but I'm fully vaxxed and ready to see all my friends!
  14. so. . 15 days back on plan, and slowly working my way back up to 1:30 walks. (today's was 1:20, and until today, been doing ~1:15 for a week). still struggling with portion control, but no sodas, no fast food, and no eating after 8pm is working for me. so in 15 days of exercise, I'm down ~5.5 lbs. today I weighed in at 203.2 lbs (started at 208.8 back on 5/11). i think I'll hit my goal of 200 or under by end of month (fingers crossed)
  15. it's not even a junior coaster. . Wilderness Run really is a kiddie coaster. . but it was the 1st Intamin, so why not ride it the seat belt is designed for toddlers. . . but you had to be able to click it. I BARELY fit on Wilderness Run. .it was tight. So not making fun of anyone, just noting, lots of walks that night. (the Woodstock Express , which IS a Junior coaster, we fit in just fine and they were encouraging adults to ride during the day. It was pretty fun too).
  16. isn't the Atlanta Fun Spot the only one without a woodie? yeah..I think we're gonna see a wood framed RMC in the field by the parking lot.
  17. ^ a ride is not a car. they intended Marquee and spelled it wrong, and used it incorrectly (but more important to me, they spelled it wrong)
  18. yeah, it died down later. you should ride WR, just for the history. . and that usually adults aren't allowed on it at all. they ran it with only 4 adults total on the train - to ensure it makes it up the 1st lift, I'd assume. BUT you still have to be able to get that teeny tiny seatbelt to click. . LOL. .we saw many walks of shame from Wilderness Run. (it got a decent line too)
  19. ugh. . I guess it keeps with the "low rent" image of Fun Spot. . but it bugs the crap out of me they not only misspelled "Marquee". . but they are using the term wrong (since you know, "Marquee" really means "tent". . so a "Marquee Event" means something so special there are tents set up at it. but I am excited to see what they end up doing with RMC. . . they have a TON of open land at that location, which is the perfect place to build a big woodie.
  20. my one Coastermania , the evening ERT had longer lines than thruout the day. The folks lined up waiting for Maverick ERT was so nuts, we just went over and got a ride on Wilderness Run- it was being offered, and it was a chance to ride a rare coaster (1st Intamin that usually adults can't get on)
  21. I've been exercising for over a week now, every day. . and lost 3lbs. only 3, but I'll take it!
  22. I've only been to KD 3 times. . but on all 3 visits? I305 didn't "Absorb" anything from anywhere, and was mostly very short station wait it's simply too intense for many of the General Public, and they don't want to ride it. (oh, don't get me wrong, there always seemed to be lots of folks gathered around the Entrance to the ride, and in the gift shop there. . so lots of NASCAR fans. . but I dont' think we ever waited more than 10 minutes for it, even without Fast Lane)
  23. um. . . this is an extremely odd statement. Kings Dominion has I305, Twisted Timbers, and Dominator. even if you don't consider Dominator a "top tier" coaster, just that KD has I305 & Twisted Timbers makes it a destination park for coaster lovers. add in that even without Avalanche (or the departed Volcano), it has these other coaseters: An Arrow Looper - with an incredible location over the water (Anaconda) A Premier LIM launch spaghetti bowl (Flight of Fear) A Premeir LIM launch terrain coaster (Back Lot Stunt Coaster) A classic racing woodie (Racer 75) A quite fun wild mouse, one of the better ones out there (Apple Zapple) A fantastic junior woodie that gives pops of airtime in the back car (Woodstock Express) and a Rough, but fun, woodie-in-the-woods (Grizzly) and they're about to get an S&S Freespin. that's a really decent coaster lineup, even if the enthusiasts / coaster fans, are gonna come for I305, Dominator, and Twisted Timbers mainly. so . . it's an odd statement to me
  24. face it Kim.. you're a troublemaker. that's why I like hanging out with you can't wait for 7 weeks from now at Kings Island - we're gonna have a blast!
