  1. 2018 predictions: - free WiFi - a ride removal - new photo locations - new food stand And...
  2. Even if you're not a fan of drop towers, Demon Drop is awesome. Don't let the size fool you. Edit: oh, I misread and thought you haven't been here before. Still... Demon Drop is awesome
  3. Glad I stumbled upon this thread. Great photos and captions! Looking forward to more entertainment 8)
  4. Who cares about profits? Clearly the best CEO to ever exist!
  5. Here in the toy factory....
  6. Just an ultra quick report from Sunday (my first time ever at the park) - Haunts: got through all the mazes. Overall not that great. Actors need a LOT of work here. Still better than Magic Mountain, though. Also: the homemade hungry hungry hippo "animatronic" may be my new favorite prop to ever exist in a haunted maze... lol. And god damn that toy house song. I want to hate it, but wow does it get stuck in your head... - Gold Striker: WOW!!! I had no idea what to expect and had my first ride on it at night and I was completely blown away. I'm surprised I don't hear more about this ride; absolutely no complaints about it. Great layout and it never lets up. I liked it better than Ghostrider and Apocalypse (which I also thought were GREAT rides) - Patriot: too much head banging and too short. Sorry, but I wasn't a fan. Better as a floorless than as a stand-up, I'm guessing. - Flight Deck: walk of shame [i wasn't even close... what's up with that? I made all other B&Ms in California with no issue] - Demon / grizzly / other coasters: due to extrenuating circumstances I didn't get to do all the rides I wanted to so I don't have an opinion on them. - Mass Effect: It was definitely interesting (especially for a Cedar Fair park), but not quite my thing. No reason to ride it again. The haunt atmosphere wasn't terrible, but it didn't really stand out either. The entrance plaza with all the fire was nice. I have no interest in going back for haunt anytime soon, but I'm really curious what Demon Reignited was like. I thought Viper was one of the worst rides at Magic Mountain and I'm generally not a fan of Arrows, but I was willing to give it a try; just couldn't make it happen.
  7. I hope you don't gamble. Same concept. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambler%27s_fallacy
  8. Moved from the KBF forum. At SFMM we went into 4 of the mazes tonight, even with paying for express, decided not to do the rest of them and left the park as it wasn't worth our time... truly awful. We were trying to find redeeming moments but most of the scareactors in the mazes were annoying more than anything. Definitely for us as a virgin to all 3 events: Knott's >> Universal >> any other park Halloween event >> Magic Mountain. Not even kidding. There was one maze with a lot of fire which was neat, but neat doesn't make a maze good. You can't polish a turd and all that stuff (kind of like Riddler's Revenge -- it might be the best stand-up out there... but it's still a stand-up.). We saw a surprisingly decent amount of actors in some of the ones we went through, but... it just didn't do anything for us. Not sure if we were biased because there were some events during the day that pissed us off greatly and operations were ABYSMAL -- i tried to not let it effect my opinion of the event... just don't go in expecting much. Thank God we had flash pass for the lines, and express for the mazes... it was insanely busy (which we expected going into it especially on a Saturday). Good luck to anyone going out there, but you are much better off going to any other chain for haunts. Some of the rides were fantastic, and I got to ride Twisted Colossus 3 times thanks to the one time use FP for passholders (my fiancee not wanting to go again so I used hers as well), and then the flashpass itself. And I actually got one dueling session. That was a fun experience. But, yeah, there you go.
  9. Definitely for us as a virgin to all 3 events: Knott's >> Universal >> any other park Halloween event >> Magic Mountain. Not even kidding. I moved some of my thoughts to the SFMM thread.
  10. I was definitely impressed at my first ever Scary Farm! WAY better than Horror Nights and the best Cedar Fair haunt hands down and some of the visuals were stunning. I'm not sure how you get early entry without the boo-fet or if it's possible (we did the boo-fet), but we did 4 mazes (or was it five?) before they even released the general public so there was no wait for any of those and often it was just us alone walking through. Also saw both shows but more on all of that later; getting ready for Magic Mountain! Oh, and the Flume is AWESOME! I think you'll definitely need early entry or Fright Lane to get through everything as it was pretty packed. We did all the rides during the day with little to no waits but at night the lines were pretty crazy. At least in my eyes -- it was a great event but not perfect and there was some duds for us overall but even the duds all had something unique/great about them. Unlike horror nights which is so 'rinse and repeat' in my eyes.
  11. I went to hhn Hollywood last night (i got to do EVERYTHING relatively quickly and I'll write my overall opinion soon in that thread -- I'd give it a "C/C+") and am doing Knott's tonight so I'm curious how it will compare. I've only read positive things about Knott's this year and it is the haunted amusement park event I'm most looking forward to this year. I guess we'll see
  12. I was there for haunt 2 (?) years ago and they did sell out of FastLane by later in the afternoon.
  13. Unlike Six Flags where you have a "home park" and discounts and special events or water parks are not alway included in your gold pass for other parks (and passes are different prices depending on the park), your Cedar Fair Platinum pass acts the same no matter what park you go to (they are also the same price at each park; well, technically cheaper in Canada which is why I renew there with my USD ) and all Platinum perks for each individual park page are good for all Platinum passes regardless of your "home park". So if haunt is an extra charge like at CW or Knott's, it will still cost extra, but if it's a free event with a gold/plat pass, then it is good for you too. ... though people sometimes are confused when they see my Leviathan pass because it's very unique to the chain and one older gentleman was giving me a hard time trying to get a discount saying it wasn't the right park until I kept telling him to just scan it, lol. You can always ask for a supervisor worst case...
  14. I've seen conflicting information with how the wristbands work, specifically with the 2pm combo. The plan is to do the lower lot stuff during the "early opening", but some info I read previous years say you get the wristbands when you first enter as long as you choose the proper entrance for after 2 admissions. I've also read you can get them somewhere (where?) between 2-5p so you can stay in the park / lower lot. I've also read that you have to enter and come back in. Any insight with how this works? The plan is to do the lower lot haunts ASAP. Also, some mentioned a "late" FOL option for half price... where are those sold in case we run low on time? Is there any difference from the regular hhn FOL? (IE: rides are still included, etc) Thanks!
  15. Two Pennsylvania haunts! 1) Pennhurst Asylum -- I'll keep my opinion short. It was very disappointing. Extremely unorganized (from actually getting to the parking lot, the initial lineup signage was incorrect, to finding where to go and in what order, to the queues inside where we had to crawl under ropes, redo ropes for the employees, etc) and those not acting and running the show were extremely unprofessional. Actors all had canned lines and none that we saw appeared to improvise anything. The actual buildings were cool but the whole experience just didn't do anything for me. They did do some light touching at this haunt, but they touched me the wrong way 2) Terror Behind the Walls -- this was the savior for the night! We had an AWESOME time here!!! Parking and ghost bus was the best they could do given the location, and they pulled it off the best they could. Everything was EXTREMELY organized and they did a great job with the crowds. We opted in for the 'tracking devices' (glow necklaces are GOOD here, unlike the #noboobitches at cedar fair) where they will touch you, separate you from your group, etc. Essentially the more extreme version. Actors were clearly improvising with their interactions. I was separated from the other member in my group at three different occasions to take part in 'bonus tasks'... The actors were plentiful and did a great job. The building itself added to the atmosphere greatly. I would definitely go back and would consider doing the hex challenge (think of it as the skeleton key rooms at cedar fair) -- I only heard good things from others about it and we did overlook two of the scenes which looked nifty. Anyway, if you are in the Philly area, check it out. Or even if you are not, take a drive! It was an amazing time! Be prepared to WAIT IN LINES or buy the VIP! Even though the lines were there, they never rushed is our sent us in with huge groups. Take your time and take it all in. Many times it was just the two of us walking through and they handled everything amazingly. A top 5 haunt for sure, and we go to a LOT of them! I know haunts can vary from day to day or minute to minute and a lot of it depends on luck, but even if all the actors stood and did nothing the atmosphere and details and work put into the production were top notch.
  16. Went to the park yesterday for a brief period. They were doing a BOGO promo on wristbands (visit again next year) and it was a really nice day out so as a ticket person such as myself (we only had a 3 or 4 hour window at the park) we ended up giving a ton of our tickets away at the end of the day because the crowds were pretty crazy. At least *I* think so. Hello Phoenix! Oh, your line is spilling out onto the Midway? Oh -- regardless, the ride is amazing and it was worth stopping in just for that. Got one ride in. But of course we rode Haunted Mansion twice... way better than the Disney counterpart... I had to play the bowling ball roller game... and I won!!! And then of course we played fascination, the best amusement park game ever created... And then for the main event... the food!!! I got ceasaris (sp?) pizza which was decent, the GOOD perogies thanks to Bill's map, which were really good (not as good as my Grandma's, though, she carmalizes the onions ), and the potato cakes were just extremely greasy and dripping oil (the plate was sopping wet)... we were not fans. Black diamond was wonderful and confusing as ever. Hmmm what else.... it's a shame we had to make it another quick stop but the crowds and time was against us yet again at this park. -- Maybe next time.
  17. Some quick thoughts: - I think Goliath is my favorite RMC so far thanks to those elements you so eloquently described better than I ever could (granted my lightning rod ride doesn't count because it was all a wtfjusthappenedblur and I never really fully got to take it all in) ... ahead of wicked cyclone and storm chaser (while a cool ride and should be amazing in theory, it was just too uncomfortable for my body type towards the end) - lol at the American Eagle queue adventure! Legendary! - Sucks that viper sucked. I liked it a LOT (forwards) --- I'll give it a shot in October if it's still running backwards and report back. - Raging Bull is a GREAT ride and I'm glad you're not a RagingBill about it. (See what I did there? I'm sorry.) - Fantastic report and great writing as usual. Keep it up man, I love these reports so much. It's such a great park and I'm excited to go back on a Friday Night in October. With the limited time, I might forgo the haunts and just ride Goliath as much as I can 8) (Amanda might actually let us skip the haunts for once because: a. She will finally see what a six flags fright fest is like when we go to California -- b. She has told me several times Goliath is the best ride she had ever been on so she will want reride after reride ---- but they have such a great selection of other rides I need to ride, too. First world problems.
  18. Decided to make a SFGAM / local haunts trip (though it sounds like the haunts will be better after the actual haunts!)... I've never stayed at a Clarion Inn or been in this area before... am I going to regret this decision in a few weeks? There is a $47 econo-lodge next door that is scary... I do have a cancelable rate if I should find somewhere else, lol... Would Lansing be any better? There is a sleep inn there... otherwise I may end up staying way in Joliet as one of the haunts we may go to is out that way. EDIT: So it looks like I'm probably staying at the Quality Inn/Suites South in Joliet. It's closer to the two haunts we will be going to and we'll just end up driving longer the next day rather than squeezing in more driving at night to get closer to our next destination. Thanks for the tips!
  19. God damnit Bill... you and the damn cliffhangers again! -- ++refreshes thread endlessly++ --
  20. not looking so good for my trip across the country next weekend. They did include Montezooma so that is sightly promising, I suppose. Still looking forward to it.
  21. Wow I couldn't imagine being there without a FL+. Great summary! Hmmm.. when we rode during the day we didn't get that. Which of the "sheds" had that? ************* Spoiler alert ************* The buildings had various "shed #1" "shed #2" "#whatsintheshed" signs to add to the disappointment of what wasn't inside. I didn't see anything in shed #1/#2 but at the end of the ride before going into the station there was an actual 'Coke cooler' that was infested /broken by tree roots / or maybe they were snakes... with the mystic timbers tree on top. It was small and looked ridiculous. And that was it! I really hope nobody was expecting them to go all out. It's like a roadside tourist trap... they might be dumb but you gotta see it! I think having a projection and music for the shed would have made it more disappointing and ruin the joke, so I'm glad I didn't see/hear that part. Obviously Tony was going to be trolling all of us with this... I think he succeeded and I got a laugh out of it. *shrugs* -- but knowing they actually did a projection and music at night kind of ruins the stupidity of it, lol. Call me crazy. Originally I thought the joke was going to be that there wasn't ANYTHING but the signs. *********** End spoiler ***********
  22. ] Not sure if there is a discount for passholders. That being said, they are charging way too much IMO. Note: I've never even been to the park before to actually confirm.
