Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
TBpony414 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I wouldn’t get to worried. So rain may help out a bit and keep the lines down, but I’m going to be going that day to so it may just be me finding a silver lining. If you see a grumpy rain soacked guy in raceing hoody or Ceader point t shirt it’s me trying to make the best of a rainy weekend. Looks like the forecast has changed then in our favor! I've had more rainy days at HP than non-rainy ones which is great for lines. If I see you I'll say hi! -

Welp, this rainy weather is getting old! I’m scheduled to go to the park this Friday but 90% precip with 1” of accumulation? A family event is this weekend in Hershey so a bunch of us are driving up or flying in from out of state and planned to hit up some coasters Friday before the weekend festivities. Maybe the forecast will change and it’ll still work out to go. One can hope. Do an anti-rain dance please, everyone!! -
bert goes to Texas Theme Parks (mega thread)
TBpony414 replied to bert425's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great report Bert! I had no idea you straddled the rail like that... between that and the bra harnesses it's a really odd setup. Sounds like it packs a punch though. I hope the ride comes to other parks since it looks to be a big hit already! I'm wondering if the single rider line bit is for people who are by themselves and don't have anyone to wait in line with. Groups of 2 or more would probably want to stand in line and chat (or stare at their phones) together whereas a single rider would be by their lonesome. Which isn't a bad thing, you and I can talk to a rock and have a good time LOL! That's the only thing I can come up with. PS - Front pockets don't hold phones, Shawn lost one on Skyrush in a front left pocket a few years ago. Hopefully they crack down on loose articles before someone gets injured! -

Definitely! I would send them an email stating exactly what happened and how disappointed you are since you're traveling from a long distance specifically for HP, it's impossible to reschedule and it will be a long time until you could visit again, and you just felt like your issue was totally glossed over without much recognition. I often will say something to close the letter along the lines of "Even if there is nothing to be done about the situation, I wanted to bring it to your attention that I experienced XYZ due to ABC and there are probably other visitors who will be negatively affected as well." Then I always close out those sorts of letters with "Thank you for taking the time to read this. I look forward to hearing from you!" Feel free to use any or all of it, or toss it all out the window haha. Keep us posted! -

There are ways to see it without being in the park. Any chance you could explain how to do so? I love that Dollywood’s app shows wait times without needing to be in the park so would love to see CP’s wait times as well! -

Totally agree with you Zach. It's nice they called you back but IMO that's the responsible thing a company should do whether they get a compliment or a complaint, so they don't get any applause from me there. However, a little something to sweeten your trip would be nice. Free parking maybe? Or a 5lb Hershey Kiss? I get that it's not required and shouldn't be expected, but it costs them nothing to do that and helps smooth things over. Your complaint is extremely valid so it's not some dumb frivolous issue. I mean even a crappy local restaurant will automatically comp a dessert if they screw up your meal. The Hershey Lodge totally screwed over my parents a few weeks ago when they were staying there regarding rooms and they gave them a massive gift basket of candy and some wine for free. My parents didn't ask for it and they are not the type to make a big stink about things, they calmly stated their disappointment at the cluster-F and asked someone to call them when it was sorted out so they could return to the hotel and unpack their bags. It was a very nice gesture for their screw-up. Hershey usually does a great job with their customer service so they're messing up big time with this Fast Track Unlimited BS. Anyway sorry they blew it, I'm sure you'll still have a great time though and I look forward to your TR! -

I know everyone's been saying this and it couldn't be more true for coaster enthusiasts but are we sure it's true for everyone else?... Are people talking about Steel Vengeance around the water cooler when they're not busy sh*tting bricks about LeBron most likely leaving again? Just outside of DC here and I have had countless non-coaster people, friends, and acquaintances of mine - most of them haven't been to a theme park in 20 years - ask me about Steel Vengeance and if I've ridden it yet. Evidently it is very well talked about here but I have no idea where they're finding out about it. Online maybe? Must be. In fact, it's more talked about than Twisted Timbers... which is only 90 minutes down the road and there are KD commercials playing on TV all the time!! -

^Is it 1 FL+ upgrade per season? Per visit? If it’s a one-time use per season: Can you use that upgrade at any of the CF parks or only CP? -

Great pics of your day at HP! It really is a fantastic park and has something for everyone in the family. You can go and ride your tail off on all the coasters or take it easy on the monorail and flat rides, see some shows, just hang out and enjoy the scenery of beautiful flowers, lakes, ducks, and plenty of shaded benches. Their food lines always seem to be long but I appreciate that they have many areas around the park to eat in... including some good "special people" food options as well as Subway. I'll be making my yearly trip up there in 3 weeks! Looking forward to your Kings Dominion report! -
Thanks very much for the link and basic overview. I agree with Bert that the regular season pass is not long for this world and we'll all be forced to get memberships in the near future. Wait... Doesn't the current season pass include season parking at all SF parks? Or did they get rid of that this year and you can only get free parking with a membership? If the latter, that really sucks.
-
I must have missed the whole season pass vs. membership discussion. Can someone explain the difference to me? When did memberships become a thing and what advantages does one have? I have a regular SF pass thru Great Adventure. ETA: The new coaster looks awesome and I really hope a SF park near me gets one at some point! Lots of amazing rides all over the place are opening this season!

Thanks be to the RMC Gods who sent you a sign to go KD on Friday!! How cool. Some comments, since you took the time to write all this out and post great pics: The Rebel Yell retrack completely transformed the ride experience. They did a really, really nice job with it and we took several laps on it a few weeks ago. I wish there were more of these truly basic out and back woodies. I love Comet at HersheyPark for its simplicity as well. Volcano’s line if it was through all those switchbacks was a good 2-2.5 hours. You’re lucky you skipped all that! The front row, right side is my favorite seat. I only had one ride on Twisted Timbers and while I thought it was excellent, I’m a sucker for launches so Volcano remains my fav ride at the park - with TT a close second. I much prefer coasters that I can marathon which is why I-305, while a great ride, has never been a big draw for me. Good grief, I must sound really old and boring! I promise I'm not I’m not a professional flyer snapper and despite having heard good things I have never had any luck on KD’s flyers. Skipping that line which if takes up even half the queue is a good 20-30 minute wait was a smart move. Their dispatching on it is historically horrible. Looking forward to hearing about your day at BGW!

I've watched this video several times and sent it on to multiple friends, that guy is hilarious!!! I looked back at some other videos of him riding coasters and they are equally funny. I never would have seen it otherwise - thanks very much for posting! -
Amazing report, Robb! The fog for media day makes the pictures look kind of ominous which only adds to the coolness of it all. Your pictures turned out fantastic, do you use a specific editing app? I have an iPhone SE as well so am always looking for ways to get pics looking better and yours are some of my favorites! The video of you with Ms. Hairtime is a masterpiece, seriously. I'm curious: were the employees lowering the restraints for you like they're doing on Twisted Timbers or are you able to lower them yourself?

I love the title of your very own TR thread! Spent a while reading over your adventure to CP and it has me totally jazzed for my upcoming trip. Pictures of the magnets, por favor!! I've been dying for a good Toro magnet and one of Ka would be great too. Where does the Uber drop you off? At the beginning of that huge lot or is there a kiss and ride area near the front that I never noticed?

DC Area Trip Planning Help!!

This is a no brainer - Hersheypark! Especially if you haven't been in a long time. Sundays are usually not anywhere near as bad as Saturdays, plus their skip-the-line system does exist and while it's not perfect, it would certainly more than do the job for you. It's not terribly expensive, either. HP is a beautiful park with an outstanding collection of rides. -

I finally smartened up and ate lunch mere minutes before reading this TR since I knew it would be loaded with insanely delicious looking food! And boy was I right!! Animator's Palate looks really cool and that video does a great job of giving those of us who have never experienced it before a taste of the magic. Are you given a seating time for dinner each night or can you show up whenever? -
Yeah not to mention (and this is gonna sound super enthusiast-y) but if their legendary flyers are temporarily out of commission and are in fact coming back, I'd like to wait until then. After the B&Ms, those flyers are the only thing that really interests me at Carowinds. It's kind of funny you say that because Fury and the flyers are the only reasons we make the trip to Carowinds. Last year we did a 2 week long trip down to Dollywood -> Carowinds -> family beach vacation and this year we were planning on repeating it... however, with the flyers gone this year we are considering extending our stay in Pigeon Forge and doing a week there and a week at the beach, skipping Carowinds. Fury is my SO's favorite ride though so we may end up doing a repeat anyhow but the flyers are a big loss this year. I desperately hope they don't do anything to change them in their new location and that you can get those nice little wind gusts wherever they end up TL;DR: Fury is absolutely incredible but you are smart to wait until 2019 or later to visit Carowinds so the flyers are back and perhaps another coaster added.

That ride sign is absolutely fantastic! After calling it New Mean Streak for over a year now, the new name is finally starting to grow on me. CoasterMania can't get here fast enough! We call them "oh sh!t straps" in the horse world and it's a leather strap that attaches to the front of an English riding saddle, similar spot to a saddle horn on a cowboy's western saddle except it's low profile and doesn't stick up. My first RMC was Twisted Colossus last year with my coaster-crazy mom, brother, and sister-in-law. My brother and I were sitting in a row right behind my mom and SIL and he and I always ride hands-up all the way no matter what while my mom and SIL like to hold on with brief moments of hands up. I'll never forget the look on my SIL's face when she turned back to look at us at the very top of the lift hill and my mom quickly joined her, screaming "THERE'S ONLY 1 OH SH!T STRAP!!!!" as we flew down the first hill. Maybe you had to be there but it was really funny and we explained to my brother and his wife at the end that it was a horseback riding thing. Cracks me up to remember that!
