Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

Since I was unable to attend Banshee's media day last year, this will be my first media day and I am curious how this event will work out. Hope to get many laps in tomorrow! Also, those pictures from the employee night look great. -

Sundays and Tuesday's for some reason have always been the best days for me to visit. Unfortunately daily operation ends at the same time as schools beginning their year. Weekdays are obviously your best bet, but I have no idea how many more people are going to be at the park this year with Thunderbird opening. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask here or PM me! I do believe I see one of those Test Your Strength rides (or whatever they're called) in Sparkler's old spot. Cool! -

I will be there alone, so I need to meet some TPR members! -

Personally, I see nothing wrong with using sheets instead. You can still fold the map anyways since it is just paper. It does, however, not look as nice folded up if you collect park maps as souvenirs. -

Hello everyone, I am possibly flying into Boston in mid-July (my dates are tentative) and am wondering about transportation to the park. I am doing research and have seen Peter Pan buses as an option. Is this bus service safe/trustworthy and has anyone on this forum used it before? Are there other options too? Car rental is out of the question. Thanks!

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

How about no. Kinzel was beyond ready to retire by the time he did. Sure he helped bring record-breaking coasters is to all of the parks, but Ouimet is doing a fantastic job with rounding out the park's lineup and bring a better overall welcoming atmosphere. It's almost a quality over quantity discussion with comparing the two. Sure we all aren't too impressed with nearly every park receiving a B&M in recent years, but they are still smart investments for the parks regardless of an enthusiast's opinion of them. Ouimet is a worthy, if not better, successor to Kinzel. Cedar Fair will still be innovative and record-breaking, just maybe not with Intamin for a while. -

That last line seems to hit everyone who always asked for a steel coaster, which I love! Also on Twitter, a picture of the local news interviewing HW had a new restaurant in the background. Can't wait to try it! -

I heard a radio ad starting today on HOT 96. I'm pretty sure we will see billboards all updated this week too. Also, there are a TON of ticket contests and sweepstakes going on with local radio stations in the Evansville and Louisville areas, as well as some in Indy too. Be sure to enter for your chance to win Opening Day tickets! Everyone around here who loves Holiday World are excitedly anticipating Thunderbird. It is certainly being hyped! -

I have also been visiting Holiday World since I was very little. It is amazing to me how much larger the park is now then when what it was when the Legend opened (which is the earliest I remember being at the park). However, it's still great to have that small town/park hospitality to this day! -

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but the smoke/fog effect before the launch is now functional. Edit: make that lightning AND fog. -

Holiday World is once again proving that their coasters provide some of the best night rides there is, and Thunderbird will certainly be no exception! -

Quite a few of Cedar Point's (I guess you could call them) third party food vendors are very good. Famous Daves, TGI Friday's, Pink's, Toft's, and Johnny Rockets all provide great food. I do agree that the basic food from the regular stands are nothing exceptional. -
If you are allowed to only do 2 parks, must fly out of StL, and don't mind driving, I would highly suggest Silver Dollar City instead of making a lonnnnng trek to Kings Island. It's about 3 hours away from St. Louis and it beats the 6-7 hour drive to Kings Island. I also believe Worlds of Fun is roughly 3-3 1/2 hours away from St. Louis too, but SDC > WoF. If you'd rather do Kings Island regardless of what I said, fly into Evansville if you can.

Looks like Cedar Point is rolling out free park-wide wifi this season. http://www.ohio.com/blogs/airtime/airtime-1.489637/cedar-point-to-be-among-the-first-cedar-fair-parks-to-offer-free-wi-fi-1.581100 Loved having wifi at Holiday World these past few seasons so now CP is getting with the times. -
Carowinds Discussion Thread

^ and ^^ Thanks! I'm leaning towards the the two separate hotels. I am very intrigued that Kumba was surpassed in your review as that's my favorite B&M too. Since I'll be within driving distance to another giga I haven't ridden yet, I figured I should hit Kings Dominion on the same trip. I'm also thinking about stopping at Dollywood since its actually on the way, although it would require an extra day on the trip. I'm aiming for a late June or early July timeframe. -

I, too, have caught Fury Fever. I do have a few questions about a possible road trip this summer. > How doable are Carowinds and Kings Dominion both within two days as far as having enough time to ride everything? > Is there a good city that is roughly halfway between Charlotte and Richmond that I can book one hotel for two nights? Or should I just book two separate hotels by the park? > Any hotel recommendations? Thanks! -

^ I believe it is possibly for that reason and also I think they want to create some sort of distinction from the stadium style seated hypers. -
^ I'm actually about 4 hours east of Cincy on the border of Indiana and Illinois, but I just happen to frequent Kings Island So a drive to Silver Dollar City is actually around 6 1/2 hours. Yeah, I had never experienced riding on a coaster all alone until Outlaw Run and crawling through those barrel rolls on an empty train in the cold made for a unique experience. I definitely will come back in a couple of years after their next major coaster. SDC really is a fantastic park, I just visited in crappy weather conditions, ha! Also, I forgot to mention that I drove past Celebration City and saw the very sad Ozark Wildcat sitting in its lonely place waiting to be fired up again
