TPR Members Working At Parks
cpfan101 replied to BrownStreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Currently at Sea World San Antonio. My name is David so if any of you all come down, be sure and stop by! However, once I move to Arlington in August (attending the University of Texas at Arlington-5 hours north of San Antonio) I will most likely apply at SFoT. --David -
I was invited to my own 18th birthday party today. lol

I hate alcohol, I hate everything about it. Now, because of it, one of my friends might die. This past friday, one of my friends from elementary school went to a party and got drunk (she was only 16). On top of that, before they got drunk, they did bars. Then she got in a car with her 18 year old boy friend who was also high/drunk and went driving on a highway. Neither of them were wearing seatbelts. They got up to 90mph when the 18 year old lost control of the car and hit a wall flipping the car 7 times. My friend (the 16 year old girl) was thrown 150 ft from the car. When she landed, she landed on her back shattering her spine. I talked to the family and when the EMS called to tell the parents they said "she is either dead, going to die, or paralyzed." She is currently under a medicine induced coma. I first heard she was only paralyzed from her legs down which was yesterday. Then today I heard that she may be paralzyed from her neck down meaning she can't breathe, make her own heart beat, etc. Basically, she will die if this is the case. Her 18 year old boyfriend is a vegetable currently because when he landed he puntured his lung and his brain. I have been friends with the family since I was in first grade. I really don't know what to think. Please pray for the entire family. --David

I am still curious as to where people get Superman forces? I seriously think that people (sfft fans) just defend that ride. I live in San Antonio and have been pass holders every year. Personally, that ride still bores the crud out of me. Granted that you can wait when there are no flash pass users. Still that one policy is a little rediculous. I think that the park looks stunning and has the potential to be "good", when comapred to Sea World in terms of quality of employees, cleanliness of park, park operations, (oh please don't mention how gross the water park is at Six Flags some days. Some days it is nice, others it is completly disgusting.) Sea World is still a nicer park hands down. Granted Six Flags has more rides, but please tell me, if Sea World had the exact same roller coasters as Six Flags (I mean exact clones) but the layouts of the parks stayed the same, which would you choose? --David

Yes, the flashpass system shunts you the front row I believe. I personally agree as well that Superman is boring and a waste of time minus the cool parts with the helix. Honestly, the ries is very drawn out. It is fun and very smooth but is basically just a giant family looping floorless. I have been on much much better rides. SFFT I am not impressed with at all. --David

Insufficient restraints on coasters
cpfan101 replied to mattnz's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Rides that go upside down with lapbars are perfectly safe. It really just depends on how the restraint presses down on you. For example, OTSR's, while going over your shoulders, put the pressure on your legs so if you get stuck upside down, you are held in by your legs but the OTSR part restrains your upper-body from excessive movement. (IE forwards, backwards, side to side). Now with just the lap bars, it holds you in the exact same way, by your legs except now you can move your upper body. Both are just as safe. With modern coasters that use lap bars and go upside down (Premiers launched bowls), they have your butt sitting below your legs which further restrains any lower body movement one can make during the ride. All in all, they are perfectly safe and so are you so be daring and have a lot of fun! --David -

Golden River Amusement Park

Wow this park just keeps wowing me! I really like the arrow looper. As far as themed sections go, I like how you complete the theme with typical rides you would have in that area (aka the spinning mouse). Keep us updated!! --David -

cpfan101 replied to Pufferfish's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Wow with each update this park just keeps getting better and better! The park is progressing very nicely and I like the fact that you are updating things that didn't work out the first time around instead of just leaving them. The new Mario Land looks very nice and this is quickly becoming one of my favorit RCT parks! --David -

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
cpfan101 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Today must have been bring a moron to theme park day. I got told the following ALL today at work! Kid wasn't tall enough to ride ride so I was asked "what time does the height restriction lower?" And then I was told that SWO does not have Shamu at all. Also, there exist Sea World's in Canada, Harlem Massachusetts, and New Orleans. After I told guest that there have never been Sea World's there, he procedes to tell me that he has in fact visited all three just in the past year. (WTF was he on?!) "What do you all do with the animals after each season?" First response was by me and was "we send them back to the manufacturer to get updated models." Second time that was asked my manager answered it and the guest convieniently had chicken strips plate with her so my manager goes "well you know those chicken strips you are currently eating..." Guests eyes got so freakin huge! --David -

My dad always tells me to lock my car, lock my car. And I do. However, my dad has a company issued Blackberry which he hates with a passion and leaves it in the car everywhere we go. It always sits in the cupholders. Also, my dad for some reason does not lock his car whenever we are out which is aasking for it to get stolen. So finally, someone took the blackberry and I don't feel bad for my dad at all. He leaves it in the car with the doors unlocked when we are at resturants etc. --David

San Antonio Advice
cpfan101 replied to hollers25's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Here is my take on what to do. Definately see the Riverwalk and there is a lot of shopping to do around town. There definately is not a shortage of things you can do while in San Antonio. Personally, I live here, so I don't think the Alamo is all that amazing, but tourists love it. (I think it's because I have lived here for 17 years.) Between the 2 parks. SFFT has more roller coasters however, some of the shows are just country singing and Mexican dancing, and frankly, not my cup of tea. During Spring Break, prepare for lines and lines and more lines! The park does have roller coasters, however, outside of roller coasters, there are only a handful of flats. If you don't see any shows and just do the rides, granted some are AMAZING!, you can easily have the park done in half a day. I went on the day of the Plain White T's concert and we started at 11 o'clock and were done by 3. Take my advice, do not ride in the back car on the Rattler. IMO, the rides they have are fun but are not very thrilling. They are more fun but just leave you wanting "more". Also, the park can get very dirty and frankly, is way overpriced in terms of food and drink. Also, avoid the water park, its disgusting. Sea World is the more family oriented all day walk in the park type experience. The water park here is pretty darn good and really clean. As far as rides, there is not all that there however they do have the more intense Batman clone of the 2 here and a pretty good hyper if you sit in the back. (Yes, our clone is more intense because it is like 100 or so feet shorter because they removed all of the straight sections of track from it to cram it into a smaller space.) The shows here are pretty good too. Definately check out the VIVA! show as it is really fast paced and interesting. A word of advice: as you walk into the park, the main way to go is right of the fountain since the park is based around a lake and that is where all of the rides are. However, if you go left at the fountain, you find a small area of park where Dolphin Cove, Hospitality House, and Sharks are. Also, the food is much more reasonably priced however, I might suggest eating at the Rio Loco Bar B Q resturant as frankly, the BBQ there is pretty darn good but it will be expensive since it is a theme park resturant. Also, I haven't tried this but I have heard good thigns about them from the guests, invest in one of the behind the scenes tours. At both parks, you need to plan your day. Trust me, I work at Sea World and this is going to be my second season and druing Spring Break, both parks are going to be very very hectic. --David -
I hate the formulas the FAFSA website uses to estimate expected family contribution. I got accepted to the University of Central Florida, which is the school of my dreams, for business and the only way I can go there is if I get financial aid and scholarships due to the fact it is out of state and cost of attendance for out of state is roughly $26,000. However, my FAFSA report said my expected family contribution is going to be $72,000!! Now, granted, I don't know if this is per year or over 4 years. I'm really hoping its over 4 years because then that equals out to roughly $18,000 which is about the max my parents are willing to pay to send me there so I'll have to get the last $8,000 a year in scholarships/other forms of money. However, if it's $72,000 per year, then they have another thing coming because I know for a fact there is no way in hell that my family can do that much money per year, let alone the $26,000 per year cost of attendance. I'm actually curious, is there any family that can drop $72,000 a year on one kid's college expense and still have money left to feed the family? Also, I don't find out if I got any scholarships till like mid-March. This whole situation is really stressing me out. Also, I applied for a management position at work. They called me back Monday and I missed the call because of school. I call them back as soon as I got home. I leave messages, I talked to receptionists, and then it is now Thursday night and no contact. Today, I talked to a person who is like amazing at getting stuff done and I admire her and she told me that I shouild get called soon, so I'm hoping tomorrow will be the phone call that ends this ordeal. Blah, I'm really stressed. --David
