  1. Great trip report, it'd be awesome to be able to go to this event. They really know how to put on a show.
  2. I'm still trying to be optimistic for Hard Rock Park. I want to see it succeed, I don't want to see it "barely hang on" for a year or two before taking the final plunge. If someone can come along and pick up the park, then that's great! But if the park wasn't meant to be, we'll be seeing these rides pop up at other parks in the coming years.
  3. I figured I'd post this here instead of Ask Alvey so more people might answer. I've been looking at what I want to do with my life for a year or two now. When I was in middle school, I always wanted to be an architect, but the schools I was looking at didn't offer it as a licensed program. So I began to look at other degrees offered. I looked at the University of Memphis's catalog and one stuck out to me greatly: Hospitality and Resort Management. My grandfather was into the hotel business and I've always been interested in it. However, my "dream job" would be to manage a theme park. However, this got somewhat complicated yesterday. I was informed that Memphis would become accredited for the architect program next year because University of Tennessee across the state can't handle all of the students. I am interested in both jobs, but I would like some clarification about a job as a general manager. What all does it really involve? I've been looking on the web, I've even emailed some parks but none have replied. I'm not looking for "discouragement" because it really does interest me. I realize that it's unlikely that I would be able to do this because the hotel to themepark ratio is probably 100:1 (if not greater). There's alot of knowledgeable people here. I would greatly appreciate any advice or information! MOD EDIT: I've edited the title of your thread to be more descriptive and possibly attract people that could help you. larrygator
  4. Good to hear its back open and that progress is being made on the rest of the boardwalk.
  5. Update Year 1 The park is still going strong! We've had a couple of sellout days lately! Barracuda has received great reviews so far. Aquarium is the most popular restaurant in the park, without a doubt. If you're looking to eat here, you need to make a reservation the day before! Check back soon for more.
  6. Good to see there's interest. I say give it a shot, what's the worst that can happen (that hasn't already)?
  7. Man, I wish I could work out that late! If I workout within three or four hours of going to bed, I can't go to sleep.
  8. Update Year 1 Welcome back! We well exceeded our expectations for opening day. We had a total of over 20,000 people pass through the gates! The carnival section looks a bit different during the day. Everything looks great from Tour Orleans. Check back soon for more!
  9. ^ Haha! I might be wrong, that's just what my scale says. But I'm sure the people who made Wii Fit figured most of the systems would be on carpet. John "I love carpet..." Stevenson
  10. I'm not familiar with Wii Fit, but I know some scales are affected by the surface they're placed on. I believe carpet can yield inaccurate results.
  11. ^ That's sorta what my next park will be. But I intend on carrying this one out until at least January.
  12. It's great to see this back. I think it gives us all, overweight or not, some inspiration to be a bit healthier.
  13. Update Grand Opening Welcome! Today is the first day of operation, and Orleans Place Boardwalk is packed! Lots of people! Looking from one of the main gates. Check back for more stuff from grand opening! Download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3LHBO5KS
  14. Awesome trip report! That's a cool find, it's got this Dollywood meets Ghost Town feeling to it. I don't even think this place is listed at RCDB.
  15. I'm not a cat person, but I couldn't pass this up. I'm not sure if this is my official entry, I might come up with a better idea.
  16. The download will be posted tomorrow! Here is the custom scenery needed: (I hate to do it this way but it's alot easier)
  17. ^ They're wasting no time... Hopefully it will find a new home.
  18. I had a good season. 1. Continued my tradition of riding a coaster in its debut season. (2008 - EK; 2007 - MM; 2006 - X-Coaster) 2. Went to Six Flags St. Louis for the first time 3. First spinning coaster at Mid-South Fair (though my car didn't spin)
  19. Update Pre-Opening Guess what? The park opens tomorrow! It's been over a year of construction, we've battled a couple of hurricanes, but nothing can stop New Orleans! It will soon be very crowded here! One last test run for the night. The mall below the hotel is prepping for the expected crowds. Come back tomorrow!
  20. ^^ Year 5, probably. ^ Hey bro, it takes time and patience. I've been Playing RCT since I was eight. It takes a ton of suckish parks to get to this point. And I still have a lot of room for improvement.
  21. It would've been awesome if a group had been making a documentary documenting this whole process with the "high-up" meetings, consultations, etc. That would be funny to see.
  22. But if they sell them to a company like Parc Management is it really that big of a deal? I mean, Darien Lake didn't seem ANY different to me under their management than they did under Six Flags. In fact, I think "Ride of Steel" actually ran BETTER! --Robb You're right, but I'm saying that more for sentimental reasons rather than anything else. When I was a kid I was always amazed by how many Six Flags parks there were, I guess I want to keep it that way forever.
  23. I think I gave my economics teacher a heart-attack last week when I showed him Six Flags' stock for our quarter project. He said he'd never seen shares that low. But that's great that profits are up, I hope they can get things under control. I'd hate to see them sell more parks. Eventually there will only be a few parks left, we'll have Six Flags West and Six Flags East.
