Legoland California Discussion Thread
SoCalCoasters replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I too went yesterday, and also will post some thoughts about the area. Episode 5: Hoth This was the least impressive area of them all, with too much open space, I feel it would have been better if they'd do a half area as Hoth, and a half area as The Cloud City. Overall, the models in this area were good, and featured all the key elements from that battle. Episode 4: Tatooine Tatooine was very interesting, and had lots to look at and find. it does indeed feature the Mos Eisley Cantina, and when pressing a button, the band plays and moves to the music. This area has a very impressive Millennium Falcon Model, and lots of Storm Troopers. Episode Three: Mustfar and Kashyyk This area I have mixed feelings about. The Kashyyk area was great, while all the Mustfar area has going for it was Anakin and Obi-wan dueling, and the facility in the back ground...not much else. The Kashyyk area had a giant clone turbo tank, with a rotating turret, and the beach battle from ep. 3. Episode Two: Geonosis Another very impressive battle scene. What makes this one so great is one of the drop ships can rise up about a foot in the air on a pole, with Yoda commanding the clones to take him back to the base, and the giant colosseum. Episode One: Naboo This area features the Gungan's Battle Against the Droids, Obi-wan's battle against Darth Maul, and Anakins ship. The Naboo fortressis huge, and has a great water feature. Anakin's ship rises up and spins as well. The Clone Wars: Christophsis WOW by far, this was the best area for me! The center model, this area contains a great interaction scene. The guns of the droids ships turn and fire, and wherever they hit, smoke steams from. The model also feature Anakin on top of a giant droid, and a large Christophsis building. Episode 6: Endor The second best area, this features the imperial outpost, along with the rebels raiding it. The imperial shuttle sits on the landing pad. The second half of the Endor area features the Ewok village in the trees, and the battle agains the stormtroopers down below. Final Thoughts: This is a great new area for miniland, and much larger than I had expected in to be. I think this was a great new addition to the park, and hope to see the effects stay on and not be removed after 3 months. -

Bell Gardens [RCT3]
SoCalCoasters replied to SoCalCoasters's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Journal Entry by Thomas Heart: August 12,1977 But things have been in turmoil over the past three days since the death of Knight. I'm quite surprised he left ME the park to manage... I'm sure if I have what it takes to make a theme park work... I found Knight's favorite pictures from Bell Gardens from over the years, and I thought I'd put them here: Shot0303.bmp Kitanzi testing hours before the Midnight opening. What this photo doesn't show is the rain clouds that moved in! Shot0304.bmp The first full train of riders climbing the hill for Thunder Racers. Shot0305.bmp Magi Maelstrom opening weekend. There's always going to be danger with wild animals and people. No matter how long they've been in captivity, whales will still wild animals. Sad events like Dawn's death unfortunately occur every once in a while, while you can put safeguards up, there will always be risks. I honestly think the GP will freak out when they find that the "Killer" Whale has returned...

Is March's winner ever going to be announced, seeing as the host hasn't commented in quite a while it seems that this contest is dead, unless someone else can take over the judging... -

Just a suggestion, differentiate that rock path tile a bit, as it's a tad overpowering. -

I actually like that logo too... These photos are great! It's interesting to see what the park looked like back when it first opened. And Fire Dragon did have some very bright paint! I have yet to visit USF/IOA, but I get the chance to this summer, I can't wait! -
Carnival Drop Tower
SoCalCoasters replied to Tmcdllr's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Agreed The two most powerful drop towers I've been on were Larson, Drop Tower at the SD County Fair, and Zoom at Lakeside. Zoom was actually my first drop tower too! -

Great report! I can't wait to see more! One question though, was the flume ride through the artificial mountain open? I recall hearing somewhere that it closed permanently, can someone confirm/deny this? -

_Brandon_ is working on a very good looking one right now, he posted some art in the preview thread. -
I finished mine... Due to that annoying peep AI glitch that occationally causes massive ammounts of guest to get lost in a small area, I was not able to complete the park objectives... The park is still Grand Gardens, but has for Themed Areas: Midway - consists of the park's main entrance, Flower Wheel (Ferris Wheel), Cloud 9 (Observation Tower), Whirlpool (Enterprise), Grand Gardens Gallop (Carousel), Garden Cafe (Eatery, be sure to look at the clever names), and the Twist-n-Shout Scramble (Scrambler). Urban Metropolis - consists of Taxi Turmoil (Mega Lite themed to a runaway taxi through a large city set), Grand Gardens 500 (Go Karts in a large stadium), Metro (Shuttle Looper themed to a public transportation system, sponsored by Amtrack, hence the color scheme), and Traffic Rush (Bumper Cars themed to Rush Hour Traffic). Forbidden Forest - A Large forest area which consists of Forest Flyer (Togo Death Machine), Mystery House (Crazy Shack), Forest Globe Theater (3D Cinema) and Spirit Of The Mountain (a fast paced GCI terrain coaster which maintains a steady speed of 30 MPH after it leaves the lift delivering fantastic pacing). Castaway Bay - A heavily themed pirate area consisting of Beach Blaster (S&S Double Shot), Crow's Nest (Intamin Drop Tower), Skull Cove (A heavily themed Water Coaster), Black Powder (B&M Hyper Twister), Captain Black's Pirate Ship (Swinging Ship), and Barrel Blast (Schwarzkopf 2nd Gen Flywheel Shuttle Coaster).
