  1. Lets see, prostate exam or Roller Coaster at NYNY. That's easy, I'll take the prostate exam.
  2. Considering that the company who designed the ride is no longer in business and that they really haven't been stacking of late, I'd say adding another station is more of a fanboy dream.
  3. Thanks! I would highly recommend visiting next you are here.
  4. ^ Rumors. It will re-open as it was once construction on JL:B4M allows. As far as the second station for unload, in the grand scheme of how many coasters that are out there, there are few built with an unload station. Off the top of my head: King da Ka Manata California Runaway Mountain Top Thrill Mill Force Non Dueling Dragons Magic Carpeted Spinning Mice/Wild Mice/Gerstlauer Spinners So it's really not just a Six Flags thing, its just done where it makes sense to do so, land space, costs, projected increased operational capacity, etc.
  5. ^ This in so many ways. They also seemed to have a decent selection of what I would call non-theme park food and very family friendly.
  6. If you are worried about your glasses coming off, don't. I wear mine all the time on Texas SkyScreamer. As far as coming out of the ride prematurely, you don't have to worry about their either. The seats are designed and angled to prevent you from getting out of them during the ride. Unlike a wave swinger, the restraining strap around your torso and between your legs and locked in position electronically and cannot be undone until the ride is on the ground. Here is a little video of yours truly. You can see how the straps are placed and how it accentuates my belly. Man I need to go on a diet... [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] P.S. I really wasn't scared of the ride, I believe Shawn and I rode it some 15 times on media day, it's quite relaxing.
  7. I'm a huge lover of the peacefulness of Botanical Gardens, and I have what some would consider to be a strange hobby. What happens when you combine the two? You get Gilroy Gardens, a perfect blend of amazing horticulture and rides. What isn't the perfect combination? Your iPhone and a swimming pool. Yeah, that happened on this trip, and I wasn't even drunk. Stupid maybe, but not drunk. History lesson! Gilroy Gardens started out as Tree Haven which opened as Nob Hill Family Park to Michael Bonfante's Nob Hill Supermarket Employees in 1977. The famous Circus trees began making their way in in 1985 and in 1988 he added a few rides and changed the name to Hecklers Pass. But much like Strickers Grove, it was not open to the public. That would come in 2001 when the park opened up as Bonfante Gardens. The garden struggled over the years and in 2007 was renamed Gilroy Gardens and was purchased a year later by the City of Gilroy. Today the park is managed by Cedar Fair, (which means your Platinum Pass gets you into the park, you'll need to pick up the tab on parking), as a non-profit carrying on the vision of Michael Bonfante. So that's that, enjoy the tour of Gilroy Gardens and be sure to comment and let me know your thoughts on the park! Welcome to one of the best landscaped parks in the world! When you walk in the front gates you know instantly that its going to be a good day. Looking down from the entry bridge I found a hidden carousel This is great place to just sit and meditate Moving along Attention to detail is found on every bend And then I stumbled upon Gil the Garlic and his sidekick Roy dancing for the crowd rolling in for the day. Now I'm not sure, but it looks like she was making fun of them. Come on lady, it was cold outside! The parks Grand Carousel looked stunning. Before I explored more of the park I decided to get this out of the way. And of course I took the scenic trail I mean why not But then I found a snake And hauled out of there. The train is a fantastic way to see the park Trying out a new motion technique, I think it turned out well As you can tell, there weren't a ton of people here on this cool May Saturday morning. We took the tunnel and went into the greenhouse More custom built waterfalls. They had just started construction on a new water play area. Everything is just so darned vibrant. Out in the lagoon You could grab a paddle goose and go for a ride Anamatronic Vegetables, that's a first. This is another great way to see the park Soaring high above the earth. Well, maybe 15 feet. Circus Tree! These crazy raccoons were trying to blow up the mine train, bad raccoons, bad. Speaking of the mine train Let's go for ride This isn't your normal boring queue line, nope, it's well lanscaped. As is the exit. What a fun ride. As far as mine trains go, I have to place it number 1 Partially because of the surroundings But mostly because it was badass. The park features several different gardens to enjoy. I wonder if this mushroom is mellow? The car ride was pretty awesome, choose the type of car you want. I chose the 50's, apparently everyone else did too as there was a short wait. Time to load up. I've been on many a car ride in my time... But much like the mine train... I think this is my favorite. A garlic hustler. One of only two hustlers in the U.S. The other is at Six Flags Fiesta Texas and themed to billiard balls. Time to make like a tree and leaf. Get it? Ha ha. Fantastic park with super friendly staff. I spent about 3 hours in the park, could have spent a tad longer exploring all the different gardens. It's for sure on my re-visit list. Check it out next time you are in Nor-Cal, park re-opens late March. Be sure to comment. If you've been to Gilroy, what's your favorite thing there?
  8. The rides that RMC has remade that have the transfer tables on station exit were originally designed that way many moons ago. Outlaw Run and Goliath both use the transfer table has a block section before entering the station. But like Robb said, the decision is usually a space issue and how best everything fits with topology.
  9. Sorry folks, parks closed for the season. Moose out front shoulda told ya. Come back Feb 28th. I don't say this lightly, but the last two months have seen a dramatic increase in operational positivity. The front gate has been fully staffed and more importantly, friendly! Same can be said for ride operations, friendlier staff and quicker dispatching. The Shockwave crew is back to their old friendly self as is the Judge Roy crew. All in all the park many have seen decline operationally over the last two seasons is on the upswing. Oh, and Giant hasn't been stacking of late, same with Titan. Let's hope the 2015 season continues this trend.
  10. Park is listed as closed for today due to cold and rain. Nothing on social media as of yet.
  11. You rode NTAG when it was cold which scrubs about 10mph off, ride again when it's in the 80s and OMFG
  12. Public Service Announcement: Due to inclement weather, the park will be CLOSED January 1st, 2015.
  13. Public Service Announcement: Due to anticipated inclement weather, Six Flags Over Texas will be CLOSED January 1, 2015. At this point the park is still scheduled to be open on January 2, however I would expect that to change as the current forecast is a high of 41 with 80% chance of rain. Sunday is also iffy with a high of 37. Keep in mind the major coasters need at least 42 to open most other rides 38-40 to open. So it would appear Saturday might be the last operating day of the year.
  14. For your viewing pleasure Took this a few weeks ago, just never posted. hurricane harbor sky coaster.
  15. Thanks David, we will be back to the site during the offseason as the ride goes vertical. One thing I failed to mention, the reason it looks as if not much has been done is because they have been upgrading the sewer systems and what not so everything that's been done to this point has been underground.
  16. Yesterday Park President Neal Thurman and Director of Marketing Jeffrey Siebert were gracious enough to take TPR on a quick tour of the construction site for Batman The Ride, an exciting brand new S&S designed 4D coaster coming in 2015. This would also be my first visit to Holiday in the Park and they have certainly done an amazing job. They offer two shows and both pack the house and both are very well done. The Majesty of Christmas is easily the most popular and people lined up 30-45 minutes before gates opened. Same with their new show titles My Christmas Card to you. If you like musicals, you'll like this. Here is a brief overview of what we learned - The old car ride station will likely be coming out within the week - Parts are starting to arrive from overseas - Alan Schilke designed, so you know it's gonna be amazing! - Rocky Mountain Construction is responsible for fabrication of the track and should start arriving next month. The structural pieces are being fabricated by S&S. - Vertical Construction will take about a month to complete. This could start within the next 6 weeks - Season Pass holders will be given the opportunity to ride before the general public - Superman's paint work continues during the rides annual maintenance - Park opens in 2015 on February 28th! We also shot a quick video of the site, be sure to check it and when you're done, share it with your friends! Who's excited?! Welcome to Fiesta Texas! I love their re-designed entry, not bottle necking at the metal detectors is a huge win! Ok, so let's get it to. Why is there a sign here? Well, it's because this will be Batman's ride entrance! The queue for this ride is going to be a little different and I'm not going to give it all away, but I will say that it's going to keep you entertained. Behind the building we find the new ride plaza (thats what I'm calling it), did someone say Batmobile? Once you've queued in the building you'll make your journey out to the ride where you will be placed on the right or left side. But don't worry about long queues at the ride, it's being designed so that once you're at the ride you'll virtually have no wait before loading. The business end of the ride will be here, aka the Raven drops. Oh yeah, you are virtually guaranteed to flip 6 times, maybe more if you're 'large' enough! Excitement! Say your goodbyes, it won't be around next week! This will be one of two great areas for photos as your friends ascend into the air The park has gone the extra mile in terms of ride promotion. They've setup this booth across from what will be the ride exit. Inside you find ride facts and the promo video playing! People seemed to be gathered around it each time I walked by. In fact the park has recieved inquiries from news outlets all across the world! To the left of the entry point will the gift shop/exit Bye bye tunnel, hello sweeping drop! I still haven't met anyone who is distraught over the old car ride leaving. It's replacement is going to kick some serious ass! Backstage was next on our tour where we found cat walks! Oh boy! I bet if the park sold these tags in the gift shop, they could make a ton of money. More stairs and stuff! Sexy! Selfie with the stair cases! (No selfie stick was used in the taking of this selfie) After the tour, Garbles showed up and we went riding around the park. Single train ops (rehab time), but the staff were on it dispatching trains at a blistering pace. Who doesn't love a star flyer? Garbles needed a nourishment stop for Cookies in a Cone! One of the many unique offerings during Holiday in the Park There are also several specialty stores And an opportunity to meet Santa! Pews have been setup for the tree lighting ceremony, cool looking tree. The food here smelt amazing, and even furthermore, tastes just as amazing. This is a local vendor whom they've invited out for the event and I'll say they made the right call. Do you wanna build a cookie? Do you wanna frost it up. Ok, I'll stop. Meanwhile the sun was going down. which left just enough light to check on Superman. What a difference! Hello Iron Rattler. How have you been? What's that? You're running super fast today? No slow down on the lift during HiP has provided some crazy OMFG airtime over the hill in the back row! OMG it was hauling a$$ And of courses provided for some amazing hairtime (and airtime) Train time! Closed last year, this year the train was decked out and opened up! Choo Choo Take the Tunnel! Why hello there. Decorations were coming to life. Very tasteful! Stop staring at me! Goodbye sun. Now this is cool looking And this is even more cool looking. Great time at Fiesta Texas, the staff on iRat were all over it, fast, friendly, and working hard. In fact everyone we encountered were friendly! Special thanks to Neal and Jeffery for taking time out of their day to show us around, we can't wait to ride Batman! Oh, and if by chance you are planning on coming out to ride next season, and you should, Memorial weekend might not be a bad time to come out
  17. While I'm sure there are people who have been 'that' guy, I just don't see how. Like you said, it's enjoyable and has a lot to offer. To me, the coaster was just a bonus as the zoo itself had been on my bucket list for a while. It was certainly interesting, that's for sure.
  18. It's not in any condition to be re-assembled. It's cut for the scrap yard
  19. I've never seen it down, been told it was reliable, just not popular. It of course had to go anyway for JL:B4M
  20. No more Rock'n, not sure why it dbl posted.
  21. Pretty sure it's done. She's not been taken down with much care, doubtful it will return anywhere
  22. HiP has been busy the last 4 seasons. I can remember in 2012 on a Saturday around 3pm traffic being backed up on I30 and Hwy360 for at least a half mile with everyone trying to enter the park. Totally insane. Friday nights seems to be the calmest time along with after 8pm on Sundays. Other than that, forget it. The time on Titan is set to 60 seconds and was much more attainable without the seat belts.
  23. In May I visited the Great Lake States and along the way I made a quick stop in Columbus to visit the zoo that Jack Hanna made famous, the Columbus Zoo. Thankfully my timing was such that the new Africa section of the park had just opened, but what I wasn't prepared for was the giant hike that would be required to get to the new section. Pro Tip #1, take the free shuttle to Africa, it's not so bad walking back to the main Zoo area, but getting there, wow, now that was a workout. The rides section of the park was at one time Six Flags branded along with the adjoining water park. The rides add-on was only $10 making the total admission cost $25 plus parking. Discount tickets are available at the local grocery store, but the savings amounts to about $2, hardly worth the effort unless you need to stock up on beverages of the adult kind. Speaking of, Pro Tip #2: Beverages and snacks are allowed to be brought in, which is exactly what I did on this scorcher of a day with temps hitting the mid 90's. Ouch! While the Zoo isn't the San Diego Zoo, it is a really nice zoo with friendly staff and tons of stuff to do. It's definitely not a place you'd want to come in, credit whore, and leave. I had originally budgeted 3 hours and ended up spending 4 hours. I could have stayed longer, but Cedar Point was calling my name Welcome to Universal Studios! Erm, Welcome to the Columbus Zoo! First stop, Asia! But before you can enter Asia, you must pass through customs where you will learn about the different animals you will see. Except the middle one, it's extinct, you won't be seeing that one. Whew, successfully made it through customs! Nooooooo! My favorite store has closed! This snake will not be eating me alive. Caption Contest, or would you rather just hang out? The set that Jack Hanna uses. Om nom nom nom nom Meanwhile we've made it through Asia and off to find some Dino's Have I mentioned before that I like Flamingos? No, Yes, Maybe? Well I do. I also rather like the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas One of these is not like the other, one of these is not the same This 1914 Mangels Company Carousel was refurbished and relocated to the zoo and features the original wooden horses. It's included in your ride add-on wristband. Also included in the wristband is this amazing float through dinosaur attraction. "Humans. It's what's for lunch" Before hopping in the boat, you are treated to a nice walking expedition where you can roam with the pre-historic creatures. Manly Pose I'm pretty sure the guy in front of me was making googly eyes with Rexy. For the reverse POV enthusiasts. I'm pretty sure I saw this guy featured on an episode of Dirty Jobs Australia. Or maybe it was a decedent. Something about a saltwater croc. We're off to see the lizzard, the wonder lizzard of Oz ...... I don't see a lizzard, but I do see a dinosaur crapping out a human! Boat ride's over, wake up ya'll Over the river and through the woods to Africa we go. The newest exhibit at the zoo, Africa! And I highly recommend taking the shuttle up. My legs are sore just thinking about that walk. Clyde the Camel welcomes you This is where all the action was today. They've themed this area better than most. Another customs checkpoint. These planes are not used to smuggle drugs. They are purely for expeditions into the wild. This cheetah will not be hunted today. The land for the Giraffes to roam was massive. There were tons of other animals roaming the range as well, but I like Giraffes and didn't take photos of anything else. All in all, it's a fantastic addition to the zoo and certainly the animals appreciate it. But it's hot outside, so it's off to get wet. Splish splash I was taking a bath They had a really cool on board photo system And flyers!! If you are expecting a mild ride on a scrambler, well, they will deliver you one. Boooo Wait, wait, this makes up for it! Yes, yes it does. A river runs through the coaster. A river that allows and serves alcoholic beverages Off we go! On this junior woody that's begin well maintained. And with that, I'll roll on out! Overall its a very nice, well kept zoo and park. If you are in the area don't be 'that' guy who just credit whores the coaster. Spend 3-5 hours, you'll be glad you did.
  24. Guys, there is no ride going in at BGW, it's just a figment of your imagination along with some damn good photoshopping skills!
