Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

I believe it's 200 ft. I vaguely remember some issue with heights regarding Skyrush. Don't hold me to that though. -

There are new survey markings on the walkway near Flying Falcon and the kiddie rides. Maybe that's the location of this new attraction? -

I love Hershey's marketing for their new rides. Can't wait to see how they go about it with this! -

I know I'm late to the new restraint debate but I was just at the park yesterday. The soft restraints are a HUGE improvement. I caught more air on SR than with the old restraints. I also was guilty of putting my hands behind the old rigid restraint at shoulder level on the launch to kind of make myself feel more secure. Totally wrong riding technique that could have gotten me injured. I couldn't do that with these. They give, so when I pushed from the underside it flexed enough that I was forced to hold the grab bar like I should. The rattle in both coasters was gone from what I could tell. No head banging at all. As far as Skyrush, I didn't notice any difference there at all. I'm glad they didn't go with the vest style on that. It would totally take away that wild, out of control feeling. -
What Social Media do you use the most?

Like a lot of others, I don't have a ton of time to be on social media but my top 3 are Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter (though to be honest I only read tweets and don't post). -

Download their app. Very accurate wait times and you can set alerts to let you know when the lines are shorter. -

I agree that the pov not do this coaster justice. It's the only one that has literally made me take a seat as soon as I got off of the ride. Absolutely amazing ride! -

You may still encounter a ridiculous wait. It's one of the 3 that are open for the extra hours in the morning. I recommend using Hershey's app. They are fairly accurate with wait times and you can set alerts to notify you when the line gets to whatever time you are willing to wait. I set it for 30 minutes or less personally. -

Yes, our schools all go back this week with most of them starting today. You should be good to go on any weekday, with the holiday being the busiest. If you head back to Laff Track right at rope drop it should only be a 5 minute wait. I hit it 2 consecutive Saturdays that way and only waited 10 minutes both times. Light rain shouldn't give you too many problems but lightning will shut everything down. If I remember correctly in heavier rain the coasters close fairly quickly. -

Oh my! I hope everyone on the ride was ok. Not a very good year for the park. -

After seeing that display box at the entrance to the queue you would think people would leave their phones in the bins. -

It's my understanding that zoning ordanences are nothing over 200 ft. I believe that's the height of Skyrush's lift hill and the first drop is 213 ft because of going down into the creek bed. -

Damn! Those pictures are frightening! They really drive home how real the consequences are for making such a bad decision. My sympathy goes out to everyone in this situation. -

Nope, here in good ole PA we have these obnoxious things caked Wine and Spirits Shoppes. They aren't open on Sunday in most cases and they never seem to be conveniently located when you want something. You can get 6 packs of beer in certain groceries but they are few and far between. -

Fahrenheit first if it's a must do. Then I do the backwards plan starting with LR. Skyrush gets down to a manageable wait in the afternoon. No need to rush to that one. -

Going back to the new attraction, Hershey operated a funhouse called Whoops in the late '30s. That 4th clue could definitely be a reference to that attraction. -

Wendy's in our area have $10 off tickets on the tray papers if you eat in and Giant Foods sells discounted tickets also. I want to say $14 off but don't hold me to it. -

I found the crowds to be manageable except Labor Day weekend. Schools in our area will be back in session. Still plan to hit Fahrenheit first though. -

Good Eating Outside of Theme Parks

These are a little bit of a drive from Hersheypark but both are well worth the drive. Owned by the same family and they have similar menus. The first is in Harrisburg on Second St called The Firehouse. It's in an old firehouse. The other is on the Carlisle Pike in Mechanicsburg called Black n Bleu. Haven't had a bad meal yet, huge portions (the half order is more than enough when available), and everything is fresh. -

I was just at Giant this morning. The tickets are just under $45 with a Bonus Card (the store rewards card) plus tax and parking is no longer included. As for the rides, on your second day head straight to Fahrenheit first. The line is dreadfully slow and there is no shade. I have good luck going from back to front after that (heading all the way back to Lightning Racer and coming to the front going to Storm Runner then Trailblazer). -
Pennsyvania Trip Questions

Definitely hit up Pittsburgh and all the fun (and yummy) stuff there. Primanti's is painfully busy but good. Quaker Steak and Lube is a good alternative. As far as parks, Dorney is very under rated. I have never had long lines (even on a Saturday) except the mouse. Hershey will be almost guaranteed to be insane. Even with my season passes, we always encounter long waits. You can manage the park if you have a good plan. Get there early (before the gates open) and head straight back as far as they let you. Head straight/left and pass Fahrenheit up to go straight to Lightening Racer and do the park "backward", hitting Wildcat, Wild Mouse, Sidewinder, StormRunner, Trailblazer, Great Bear, Looper, Comet, SkyRush and Fahrenheit last. -

The water park is always ridiculously crowded. We don't even bother with it, even with our season passes. It's crazy to have to wait in line for a wave pool! If they did expand the water park over toward Wildcat they might as well seriously consider relocating the whole back part of Midway America. Lightning Racer already doesn't get long lines, if they cut it off by expanding the water park it may never get riders.
