  1. SIX has had solid earnings and given a really good dividend, but yeah I'm not telling anyone to buy their shares. The only thing you need to know is that you shouldn't buy SEAS.
  2. Is it really that unexpected? I feel like once every decade or so Six Flags buys a bunch of parks, then sells a bunch of parks, then buys more parks, closes some parks, buys more... This has been happening for many, many years even as far back as when they bought parks like Magic Mountain and Great Adventure. I don't have the time to do the research now because I have many better things to do with my time, but I'm sure someone could draw up a pattern over time between their buying and shedding of parks over the years... In so much as these were parks that they already divested of because they weren't seen as being in valuable enough markets, I have to admit it surprises me. But from a strictly business perspective, I guess there's nothing else to buy. There aren't any other parks. This is it. I've actually had really good visits to Six Flags parks for the last couple of years, so I'm not at all concerned about this acquisition. If anything, it'll help Darien Lake. And I think by having a lot of capital to bring to bear in Oklahoma City, they might get some really cool big stuff soon.
  3. Wait....they bought back those parks? I mean, OK I guess. I think its a very different company today but god this seems weird to see parks that were debranded get rebranded. (also I'd appreciate my Six Flags season pass working again at Darien Lake before I go in July k thx)
  4. I tried. The park didn't open because of passing showers hours earlier on Victoria Day 2004. The staff stayed, however, because they are union, behind padlocked gates. And they ran rides. Empty rides. Possibly for hours. well maybe they've improved in the 14 years since then I went again and actually got inside years later. It was what I was warned about. Lots of other people have tried to go and have a good time independent of me and found it a challenge. I mean, kudos to you having that luck. I got lucky too - Saturday at Canada's Wonderland was dead when I popped in for a few minutes for some rides. Like walk-on Leviathan dead. But I have no illusions I'll find that at La Ronde.

  6. Look at the individual ride pages for the answer. I think most of the big stuff is 8 tickets each. If you don't do Wildwood, there's also Ocean City (comparatively convenient from Williamsburg) MD which I know has been brought up. That's a total blast too, and you can combine it with Rehoboth Beach w/its classic dark ride for a few days worth of entertainment and fun in the sun. You want to book soon though, especially if you're going around or near weekends (as they have multi-night minimums).
  7. Yeah, that's fine in terms of rationale. I kinda used the context clues and the only day between June 24-28 without a concert is the 25th. You might be dodging a bullet going the way you're thinking. No...the restaurant. The restaurants predated the hotels IIRC and then they'd tack on a motel later. It's easy. You're gonna be taking I-91 out of SFNE to start with, so you get onto I-84 in Hartford and ride it all the way there. Then you just get back on 84, go back 15 minutes (and stop at Maggie McFly's for lunch before getting to the freeway) to the interchange with CT-8. CT-8 is a freeway that runs all the way south to the Merritt Parkway and I-95. You can do it in a little over an hour. Still worth considering something from the Smithsonian since it is literally free (Air and Space and the satellite location, National Zoo, etc). No matter what, do what you have to in order to be outside and south of the DC loop before Monday morning. Absolutely imperative. Tickets on the site are $70 for advance sale. Wristbands at Family Kingdom are $28. But then if you go there, you're gonna want to play mini golf. You're gonna want to go to an arcade. You're gonna do this, that, and the other thing. Sure enough, it's gonna be comparable. And then you gotta put yourself and the kids in the car for another 4 hours after driving that extra 4-5 to get there. At least Wooden Warrior is on the way.
  8. I remember your ideas for last year and wooooo they were a thing so let's see what you've got this time. (BTW you know it cost absolutely nothing to get into Knoebels, right?) Double backing a little bit here. In terms of driving, you'd be better off flipping Darien and Seabreeze, but if Day 2 is a Saturday, I get it. Also, did you check the calendar for Darien Lake to ensure there's no concerts? You really want to do that especially since everything is one train operation only (minus Tantrum...maybe). Lots of weird stuff in town but I can't recommend all of it (the last Howard Johnson's restaurant is here but it is by most accounts AWFUL). Good mini golf though. Stop at Quassy on the Rye day. You can go individual tickets here and skip everything that isn't Wooden Warrior. But Wooden Warrior...yooooo Also I don't care if you skip Lake Compounce because fahgettaboudit. Weekend at SFA? Otherwise mix in some DC stuff. Dude, just go to BGW instead. If you want a boardwalk, stop at VA Beach. The dark ride there is dead but usually some carnies set up for the summer with a coaster or two nearby. You'll be spending a ton of money and time in the car to try and not spend a ton of money. Swamp Fox is cool, don't get me wrong, but what else is left there? Rest is pretty chill IMO
  9. If I get there 30 minutes prior to opening and line up, how gnarly is the line into the park gonna be? I expect to be cut often going up to the metal detector, but like whatever, I'm not gonna fist fight some kid. TBH I'm considering buying a pack of menthols and smoking in the park just to fit in. I'm a big time wood coaster guy but I did get on it last time I was there. I know it won't race. I'm still interested no matter how bad it is, but I'm guessing one train operation on one track, right? Open-Close. Or at least "until I get mad". If I want to eat food, I eat everything and anything. Is there a specific restaurant that might be less popular than others? Or something that's always generally quick to get out to customers? Figured that was still the case. Ah well. Both. The kiddie ride is an original from Expo 67 and is actively interesting to me because its actually got theming bits, but I figured there was a possibility it was a "no adults allowed" situation. Monorail though I'm excited to go on. Hopefully the wait isn't too crazy. Thanks for the answers though!
  10. TFW there is unequivocal proof that Beast is actually BETTER in 2018 than it was opening year. Also Old Timers Claiming to Have Trimless Beast Rides BTFO; it's always had them. So you are saying that the ride in 2018 is better because you get a longer ride.... Because it is faster. Clearly faster. It no longer needs the booster tires to maybe get up the hill before the second lift any more because it is flying (even with the trims).
  11. OK, for those who have this place as their local park or people who've been recently: I'm planning on going on a Saturday in June because that's the time I've got to use. I literally don't have another weekend or day and don't even tell me about "if you go on _______" because NO NO NO. That being said, I need 5 credits here: Goliath, Boomerang, Dragon, Super Manege, Toboggan Nordique. Do I start with Goliath or do I start with Toboggan Nordique and Boomerang since their capacity is the drizzling $#!+$? I am accepting I may not ride La Monstre because this is a retarded theme park. I am accepting that I may not ride Vampire again because this is a retarded theme park. I would like to ride the flat rides that are big, but...you guessed it. This is a retarded theme park. I technically need the Mini Mine Train but....yeah. Oh and I'd like to ride that thing that has cars shaped like train cars and goes around theming, or the monorail, but like, is it so retarded that someone at the park by themseles won't be let on or get yelled at for phototaking from a scenic attraction intended for people to take pictures on? I need your help, guys. I really don't want to get a QBot here. I really, really don't want to give them my money. It isn't like they'd do anything competent with it anyways. It's not the lack of $15 pizza/fry meals being bought that makes this place so bad.
  12. I'd just keep an eye out here... I have a feeling once it gets closer they will post more details about it there. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ They're already there. There's no listing anywhere of who is or what they're selling, but I recall at least 5 all located on the main midway. Also Gaucho and Gringa was totally it. Really delicious. There's an Argentine Sausage plate which you could probably share that they've got. Burgers were outstanding.
  13. Stay in Vegas after those 3 days and "the evil" quickly sets in. It is tough to describe "the evil", but basically the lights and glamour wears off and suddenly all you see is tragedy everywhere.

  15. I've long since kinda accepted that Cedar Point opening day is a mess and just work around it, often by skipping it. My life has been OK without it in May. With Steel Vengeance, obviously I was going to show up. On the upside, it wasn't year 3 of 4 in which my season pass renewal done online was a disaster causing me to go to Guest Services, so that immediately went in my favor. Did I run to Steel Vengeance? I'd call it a light jog. I waited 30ish minutes. Is it the greatest ride ever? Give me more rides first. It's definitely a very, very good ride, but there's an insane level of expectation. With one ride, that's an tough thing to go about expressing with any certainty. I think the claims that it isn't "intense" which I've heard from some folks are frankly delusional. We've reached the point where RMC is so ubiquitous that people actually think the rides aren't forceful any more even as there is ejector on probably 10 spots of the ride. There was barely anything else to ride; I'm not sure Maverick was going during early entry, and if it wasn't, no coaster ran for the 9-10AM slot other than Steel Vengeance. I rode Cedar Downs, Magnum, went through the main arcade (basically unchanged) and some gift shops. Had a burger from one of the food trucks (the argentinian one), and it was little surprise that they were the most competent at processing payment and making food (it was insanely good, like, I would eat that regularly and be excited to do so). I smoked a couple of cigarettes in the parking lot hanging out with an TPR member of yore and left before the trains collided. I'll go back a bunch of times this year, so "meh" to waiting for stuff that's running one/two trains less than it has or not at all. One thing CP has done this year is stagger ride opening times for stuff like flats. Cedar Downs was listed as running from 10-3, and then we saw that Matterhorn was to open at 4. Not ideal, but it's a thing if you were crazy enough to try and make a big weekend of this.
  16. 10th of Never. Investors fell through over a year ago.
  17. They aren't seeing the Paw Patrol in real life. They're seeing a playscape with some Paw Patrol theming, if what's suggested here is correct. I'm not asking for a giant coaster, I'd just like to see a ride be replaced with a ride.
  18. Where are the parks with the super short season pass processing lines? Man, I wish, I wish that on the occasions that Cedar Point screwed up my season pass renewal I didn't have to wait an hour to get inside and have them fix it (it's been two of the last 3 years and I kinda expect it to happen again). It's a really busy park. I feel for the people who might want to redeem a VIP Pass on a day when the parking lot is entirely full, but they're also trying to redeem when the parking lot is entirely full and are locals. They can go almost any day.
  19. I went back to read the original post. If the parking lot is full at any park, you know what? It's gonna be busy. If you go to a busy day at Magic Kingdom, you'll find that Walt's magic doesn't make it so that there aren't waits for food. In fact, if you just show up without having booked your dining literally months in advance, you can forget about eating at a full service restaurant that isn't in the Morocco Pavillion. And let me know how magical it is when the monorails go down for the millionth time and you're packed into a boat to take you to the park from the TTC. So please, spare me the "This isn't like Disney." You're right, just not in the way you think. I get it - they could have had more staffing. Everyone could have more staffing no matter what. Some items like the ticket sales were also things you could personally alleviate. Don't want to wait an hour to buy a ticket from a person? You have a phone, right? And unless you are 100 years old and have one of those crappy things with the giant numbers because you're blind, it has functionality, right? I did that to save an hour of time at SFOT getting a QBot while in line to buy a QBot last month. The transaction took a literal minute at most and I was getting the device in mere seconds after that. Nothing stopped you from doing that. But like, "Oh no, there was a 20 minute wait for food!" I mean, bro, really?
  20. Cops love out of state plates because you won't contest, you'll just pay. Speeding tickets (along with seizure and DUI) generate revenue for the department and they're effectively incentivized to do it even if that's considered illegal (good luck proving that it's an illegal campaign in court).
  21. The trip over to Boblo is still definitely possible - you jump on a small car ferry in Amherstburg, ON and it's a 5 minute ride over to the dock for the residential area. As a non-resident, you sign a release form, turn left at the Anchor statue, and you'll be in the old park in a few minutes. Lots of wacky stuff is left from the old power house to the big docks to the Observation Tower (!).
  22. He's an alleged murderer now. His past is suddenly interesting, and arguably relevant in the sense that people will just now be looking for the things that should have been potential red flags years ago. All this would have likely still come out in the lawsuits/bankruptcy proceedings, but it wouldn't have been as newsworthy. LOL, understatement of the year. A dude who keeps getting caught with bricks of weed could easily be helping fund his industry developments with illicit sales for all we know. Plus beating up and abusing his wife? It would be nice to have a day when this story doesn't get wilder.
  23. Smoking weed? Whatever, IMO. Not really an issue considering that it's legal. Moving over a pound of weed and having a bunch of concealed weapons on you and managing to get off? Man, if he was black and/or poor instead of a water park guru.... That's not even getting into the allegations from his wife. Dear god. Honestly seeing interviews of him call his collaborators "idiots" and such does him no favors. It isn't like this stuff was hidden. But why would we go looking for it until now? If we dug like this in every GM's background, we'd probably find a lot of salacious stuff, especially at the family run parks.
  24. Unless someone posting on a forum is a primary source and can back it up, I'm so, so not interested in buying into what they're selling. Everyone remembers the good stuff that is happening and no one remembers the bad. Stuff from "reliable people" I know wound up never happening repeatedly, so when it comes to randos on a Disney forum...
  25. There's a ton of redundancies on the restraint systems to prevent them from flying open in operation. You should feel plenty comfortable. As a big guy, your bigger worries in life should be stuff that statistically is much more likely to affect you like obstructive sleep apnea, heart disease, and stroke.
