Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
BigDipper 80 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just a quick 'new to me' post: Millennium Force has misters in its station now, just like the ones on I305. Have these been there all season? Magnum changed its seat belts so that they are now pushbuttons (like Mean Streak) instead of the old style locks (like Gemini). Did this happen recently, or like the misters, have I just been blind to such changes all season long? -
RCT4?
BigDipper 80 replied to coasterdude5's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
My list of random things that I'd like to see but will probably never happen: Omnimovers- like the Revolutionary Rides one except actually make it a continuous string of vehicles. Heck, just use ALL of the RR rides! Lights that can be added to rooftops and whatnot would be nice. And big light-up letters like Kennywood's Racer sign would be nice. Darkness inside of buildings would make it so much easier to build dark rides. And going with dark rides, have a 'show lights' tab to make all sorts of dark ride effects. Keep the rides from losing popularity after being open for ten minutes. And actually have queues fill up like they did in RCT1-2 instead of only having ten people ever in them. In terms of coaster construction, have options. If one wants to take the 'classic RCT' route, they should still be able to construct rides in the grid method with cookie cutter pieces if they wish, but there could also be an 'advanced' mode more akin to Nolimits with no regard to the grid, albiet in a significantly simpler form than Nolimits. Gotta keep this accessible! I've got more, but that's enough for my lifetime. -

Excited about the ride, not excited about a possible lawsuit... -
Underrated Coasters?
BigDipper 80 replied to Yero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I always have felt that my Blue Streak never gets the love that it deserves... it is one of the best coasters at Cedar Point, but so many people overlook it simply because it isn't particularly tall. -

If there was even a little ember of a rumor this thread would have instantly exploded with 342 new pages of pointless speculation and incomprehensible babbling about an aquatrax. Wait, this thread does that no matter what anyways. -

I was out at the park yesterday and noticed something a little odd. Just outside of the Mine Ride's maintenance shed there was a large plastic crate containting what appeared to be a stuffed coyote. Does anyone know who put it there or why it is there in the first place? -

Kinzel could have simply been referring to a ride type that would bring back a lot of memories, not necessarily an old Cedar Point ride... but who knows? He's crazy, and we're all insane for actually discussing this. *cough* B&M woodie *cough* EDIT: Yikes, I forgot how scary the world of CP faanboydom is. I'm going to pretend that I never even thought of involving myself in this. -

For me, it's not the ratings, but rather the height restrictions that bother me. It doesn't seem right that the Mine Ride has a 48" height requirement. If anything, I would like to see some of the requirements for the smaller rides lowered to a more sensible number for younger riders. -

Tomb of Doom did look pretty exciting, but we were on our way out and nobody had really felt like riding any rides that day anyway. Oh, well... Fear the four, the Zipper was still there, being as terrifying as ever. It looks like I forgot to put up pictures of it and a few more flats... Here's the Zipper! And a typical Ring of Fire Top Scans (especially these carnival models) still scare the crap out of me This knockoff Spongebob fun house looked like it broke a couple of copyright laws. I guess carnies are above the law, though... One last question... why is everyone in Ohio so obsessed with cornhole? I have lived here my entire life and I never found it to be so exciting that I needed to bring my board to the fair... -
Favorite Dark Ride
BigDipper 80 replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The one dark ride that I really wish that I had the chance to experience was Horizons. The irony is, when my family headed down to Walt Disney World in 1998, it was during that short period of time when Horizons had reopened as an apology for Test Track's delays. Of course, I was destined not to ride Horizons because my parents felt that EPCOT was too grown up for the little six-year old me, and I missed out on my first and last chance to ever ride it But now I have come to realize how amazing Epcot still is, and I find plenty of time to ride Spaceship Earth -

That was the world's largest cream puff. It was heaven. -
What is it with this sudden explosion of formerly dead threads? It's as if somebody decided to revive the TPR of Christmas Past... Anyway, Mulholland Madness is definitely an ugly coaster. It's as if they didn't even try, and the orange and faded green looks horrendous. Eeww... why was this ever OK'd for a Disney Park? Oh, wait, it's California Adventure.

Here are a few more pictures of the fair: Heading inside a pavillion now, we find the World of Purses. No fair is complete without a ShamWow guy. This computer might have been relevant in the 1980's... I have no idea what these actually did other than smell good and light up. The Other White Meat July 28th was National Sleeping Pig Day. Look how nice this is! You would never expect some of this stuff to be on a fairgrounds. Those poor swans have to swim in the Central Ohio version of the Gulf. Heading over to Carnival Food Alley... ... we run into this delicious artery clogger. This high dive show was actually pretty decent. This pirate was the most ridiculous pirate I have ever seen. Yes, that is a murse. Aaaaand... the big jump. We headed back to the midway for one last walkthrough before heading home. Those carnies are just so clever with their rhyming words and whatnot. Smokey the Bear says, "FEED ME CHILDREN" as Mr. Man offers up his daughter as a sacrifice. Thanks for looking! -
On July 28, we decided to take the drive down to Columbus to check out the State Fair. Now, not being much of a fair person myself, I wasn't expecting much, but I was actually quite surprised by the event! Now, on to some pictures! We were greeted with this awful news when we reached the fairgrounds... how awful! Oh well, we already drove two hours to get here, we might as well check out the rest of the fair, Selena Gomez or no Selena Gomez! Avalanche. No rides today! I told you it was called Avalanche! I think that this was the world's fastest Ferris wheel. Hey, look! A sky wheel! Why do you have to be so damn photogenic? A non-powered Dragon Wagon! New to me. But I wasn't about to plop down $22 to credit whore today. I've got nothing. Just your typical Wacky Worm. Now, on to the segment called "You know you are at a fair when..." ... you have interesting T-shirts for sale... ...there are fat a$$ pumpkins... ... and outdated pieces of technology constitutes "art". NOTED! Whatever you do, DON'T eat the show nuts. Creepiest. Smokey. EVAR. This thing would prey on the little children standing near it and call out their names until they fled away in tears. When you leave the midway, you bump into this. It's actually very pretty in this corner of the fairgrounds, not just concrete and carnies. A nicely-themed amphitheater that is prettier than anything at Cedar Point. The Ohio State Fair is sponsored by BP. B-b-b-b-b-b-b-BEAVER! Mr. Mustache guy says, "if you ever find yourself careening out of control on the highway, don't hit the race pigs." See? Pretty! So, you are probably thinking, "this is a fair! Where are the animals?" Well, your needs are about to be fulfilled. MONKEY SHOW! This particular monkey show also contained pretty ladies and dogs. Much more fearsome than Rafiki. Oh, did you want FARM animals? This cow is not *quite* as real as the last cow. It is made of SOLID BUTTER. An ACER's wet dream. Daaaawwww... this cow is a BABY! NOTED! I will leave you with a picture of some sheep in a blanket. If there is any interest, I might add some more pictures later on today.

Samuel Barber- Adagio For Strings Yeah, I've got a thing for classical music.

I'm assuming that Disney figured that Pirates did just fine as a 'grown-up' film under the Disney label, they'd give it a shot with this film. Or they figured that the ride was so associated with the Disney parks that there would be no reason to release the film through Touchstone because of that relation. Of course, I could just be spewing nonsense, because I'm not a Disney exec...

I don't know why I still have it considering I own a Wii, but yeah, my Gamecube is there gathering dust, except when I break out Double Dash occasionally. Have you read a good book in the past month?

BigDipper 80 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think part of the problem with that corner of the park also has to do with the fact that it's hidden away behind the Coliseum, on top of the lack of any real draw. Maxair is the major exception, but then again, it isn't too terribly difficult to reach. All of the other rides on that outer loop are out of the way, sparse, and fairly un-noteworthy, and people seem to have a thing against exploring anything that isn't along the major drag or in Frontiertown, which all adds up to a dead zone. -
As mediocre as Geauga Lake was during its final years, it was always a special place to me. Look at my username! Big Dipper was my first 'big' roller coaster, and other than Dominator (and Sea World Ohio, of course ), it is probably the thing that I miss the most about anything that was ever constructed around that lake. Thanks for sharing your pics!

Best and Worst Arrow Mine Trains
BigDipper 80 replied to bgwfreak777's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
WED built the first two BTMRR's, but yeah, Vekoma was in charge of Tokyo's and Paris's versions. BTMRR is probably the smoothest out there. For straight up Arrows, there is Adventure Express, which is a good ride and fairly new by Arrow mine train standards, but it does have its fair share of jolts. Cedar Creek Mine Ride is smooth, but like other people have pointed out, it just meanders around and doesn't really do anything.
