  1. ^^^ Plus who would want to burn wood that has been treated with numerous chemicals...
  2. You and I both know that GCI would not use that wood. Better to play it conservatively. With the scrutiny that structure was under, it would be better to start fresh.
  3. OH NO!!! Not the Chance Toboggan!!! I can't believe they let those things run any more... I rode it once at a festival in my hometown and will never ride it again. You, my friend, are a brave, brave human being...
  4. Could this be the start of many things getting cut in that area? Could the stadium and pirate ship be next to go in order to clear for a bigger ride? I think it would be neat to see a ride skirt the lake right by the side entrance. That might be me wishing and hoping though... ^I enjoy assumptions
  5. ^ You could also blame Dinn Corp. for designing coasters that were unfeasible to maintain. With all of the forces exerted on the structure, in many areas of the ride, it would cost too much to replace all wood and steel that needed to be replaced. Over a few years, the park could have bought a new coaster with the price of refurbishment.
  6. The ride originally opened as Twisted Sisters causing "We're Not Gonna Take It" creators Twisted Sister to threaten to sue the park if the name were not changed. The name change occurred in 2002 and has nothing to do with the coaster not being open now. The ride had gotten quite rough in the years leading up to its closure, which leads me to believe that the ride was in pretty bad shape structurally.
  7. ^ I hope you didn't think the few hours you had there were pointless, I would feel terrible suggesting it and wasting your time. I agree that something needs to be done back in the Twisted Twins area, but seeing as though it seems to be the armpit of Six Flags company (excluding the travesty at SFNO) I don't expect to see them develop the park much more than it is. It's hard to coexist with HW and KI nearby, and I think that Six Flags feels that their market in the area is minuscule and the people that want to ride rides will travel the under 2 hour trip to either of the other parks.
  8. ^ Sorry about that. I could have sworn I heard, from a reputable source, that the return run used to begin with a sharper hill and had to be reprofiled. However, I have tried to find evidence of this for the past hour and have not been successful. Sorry for any confusion I caused. However, if anyone can back me up on this I would greatly appreciate it
  9. From what I understand, GCII did not rehab Mean Streak. I remember seeing that rumor on screamscape last summer, but nowhere on GCII's website do they mention any work done to the coaster. If there was work done on it I would assume that the park would want to advertise that somewhat to draw attraction to the ride. Also, remember that switching trains on a coaster is no easy task. It would be quite costly to first buy the trains, then pay for the reworking of the control and braking systems. The overall design of the structure seems quite flawed in how the forces act on it. If the ride were designed "properly" (which is very difficult to do with all the unknowns that are developed with engineering wooden coasters) the ride would not require trims on the first drop to prevent the ride from tearing itself apart. It seems as though Dinn Corp. built many "revolutionary" coasters in the span of a couple years and before the parks saw how these new styles of coaster aged over a span of even 5 years. Unfortunately for the parks, they are now stuck with these maintenance nightmares. ^Not only the large coasters aged badly. Pegasus (49') might be on the way out at Efteling due to rough ride and low ridership, Psyclone (95') at Magic Mountain was very rough pre-quake from what I hear, Predator (95')beat me to a pulp, Thunder Run (90') required the removal of a bunny hill at Kentucky Kingdom, the list goes on and on. A positive word for Dinn Corp though, I really like Thunder Run...
  10. ^I would say at least give SFKK a couple hours. Chang is pretty good and I really like Thunder Run and Greased Lightning. If you can head there for the beginning of the first day like OP did, I would say go for it. Most of HW can be covered in a little over half a day, leaving plenty of time for Voyage re-rides and the waterpark the second day.
  11. In line for the voyage yesterday, I heard this from one girl to another,"This ride is weak. I am going to Kings Island next week and riding the Beast. It's at least 4 times taller and 4 times longer." This was said in all seriousness and made me chuckle.
  12. I downloaded it last night, now all I have to do is go get a dvd-rw. I can't wait! That's the first thing I'm going to do once I get off work today!
  13. And up comes the lunch... I can see a few disputes upcoming about who gets to "pilot" the ride
  14. I wouldn't be so quick to judge any GCII coaster. They are very deceptive with their airtime and have some tricky ways of throwing it at you. After hearing these reports Prowler is definitely on my to-do list for this year.
  15. Can't wait to hear a report from Worlds of Fun today. It looks like this one is a winner!
  16. Gravity Group just announced that Fireball has just made its inaugural run. Hopefully we will get to see a video soon.
  17. Just to point something out, the animation looks to be accurate from the standpoint of the layout of track, but when you get to the base of the structure there is no concrete slab showing, which covers pretty much all of the area shown having grass. I would say the foliage would have to be around the ride rather than within the structure itself.
  18. Tower of Terror and Rockin' Roller Coaster would be signature attractions at any park in the world. Also the Buzz Lightyear ride, All three of the mountains, Expedition Everest would all still be fun rides if placed in other parks.
  19. I will be reserving judgment until I see the Terminator trains. I am almost certain that they will win this contest. It is really the first coaster we have seen from them that has a theme. From their detailed work on coasters, I can only imagine they will use the same detail on the train if the job calls for it.
  20. I am not sure what the draw of this coaster is? From what I have seen on other zecspins, a lot of the entertainment comes from the rapid inversions and changes in direction. However, this coaster does not have many inversions if any at all. Also, they brake the coaster during most of the direction changes and practically drop you over the edge instead of "throw" you over. Overall, this coaster does not appear to be nearly as entertaining as it could have been. I guess the park didn't need a great attraction to have as low a capacity as the Intamin ZacSpin's have. Too many people waiting in line...
  21. Successful test runs tonight in Kansas City! Can't wait to see a video!
  22. ^^ Quick but it looks pretty intense.
