Thinking about the coaster jumping the tracks got me thinking about another roller coaster feature -- the inversion. See if you can answer these: 1. What was the name of the first looping coaster? 2. What was the problem with it's design? 3. What was the name of the second looping coaster? 4. What was the difference in the loop's design from the first? 5. How did they demonstrate the safety of the loop?

My older brother called me a little while ago and said he's just leaving Santa Clarita. Him and his family will be up here tomorrow morning to spend Christmas with the family. The rest of my siblings will be arriving the middle of next week. This will be the first Christmas everyone is home in quite a few years.

It's only during basic training that you have to do that. It may suck, but it saves time in the morning (no need to comb hair) and saves on shampoo (a pin drop is all you'll need). Besides, last I knew Air Force's basic training is about seven or so weeks. It could be worse, the Marines basic training is three months long.

You would make me pick only one. That's a hard list to chose from. In the end I decided to go with sounds good at the moment -- mindless violence. Unreal Tournament all the way, baby!

I have Pinnacle Studios 9.0, and I have found it to be simple enough to not be overwhelming and still have plenty of options for editing. The only problem I have with it is when songs on the music track bleeds into other projects. (i.e. the current project has the right name of the audio track, but when it's played, it plays a different audio track from a different editing project.) I'm not sure why it's doing that, but it is sure annoying. For tapes, the cheapest place to get them is Costco or Sam's Club. It's hell of a lot cheaper to buy a bunch at one time. I don't use my video camera (or my photo camera) often, but when I do, I burn through a lot of tape and pictures. Also, I recommend you don't use your memory card to shoot video. The quality of the video is not as good when compared to tape. Oh, and make sure you have extra batteries and a charger. Too much theme park and not enough battery life is a deadly sin.

I'm going to Afghanistan, I doubt they have any coasters at all. Hmm, maybe I should compile all these videos onto my laptop and take it with me so I can further propagate the wonders and enjoyment of roller coasters! (If that doesn't go well, at least the vidoes will keep me sane long enough till I get home.)

Is that the opposite of impurevolume? Um, that would be a "No". Have you read the kids' book "Miss Nelson is Missing?"

A Bizarre Coaster Fact
pagemaster_b replied to pagemaster_b's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ That doesn't sound like what I read about, though it's been a long time I could have some facts missing. That book sounds very familliar. I think that's where I read about this coaster. Thanks everyone! -
A number of years ago, I read about a roller coaster designed to jump a missing section of track. The coaster was built and made successful test runs with sand bags in the cars before some one realized that people weigh differently, and that they would have to calculate the speed of the car to make a successful jump. It was scraped before it opened. I can't recall where this was built or when (I do know it was pre-World War II). Do any of you know more about this coaster? Or is it just a legend some one was repeating?

Well, you know the saying: "While the cat's away, the mice will play." Translation: While the parents are gone for the weekend, it's time to have a "little" party. -
A new themed ride idea for paramount

Dukes of Hazzard should be two coasters, sort of like Dueling Dragons. One for the General Lee, the other for the Sheriff. There was always a car chase between the two in every episode. In fact, the sheriff train should be a little behind the General Lee train, making it a chase instead of a race. What do you guys think? BTW, Jessica Simpson is no Daisy Duke. -
Bumping this warped thread back up. . . . donut shaped, Vekoma designed, flying . . .

Here's a picture of me during Basic Training (nearly four years ago). This was the worse road march I've ever been on. The last mile was a steep incline and a drill sergeant thought it would be funny to toss out tear gas grenades.

Don't worry, your secret is safe with me. By the way, my German teacher in high school taught English in Germany for a few years. He said whenever one of the teachers was celebrating a birthday or birth of a child or grandchild, they would bring in bottles of wine and celebrate in the teacher's lounge! There were a few times he went to class with a buzz in his ears.

I beg to differ on that. So much of what I saw in my school's cafeteria was swimming in grease. Just because it has meat or cheese on it, doesn't necessarily mean it's healthy. And then there's the sodium content from all the preservatives. The US has been very lax on enforcing healtier standards for school lunches. Hattuchili, is it true that German schools have beer in their vending machines? I've met numerous exchange students from around Europe, and I've neard something about this.

Yes, I can, though I haven't driven a stick shift in a long time. I dislike them when I'm driving in the city with all the stop-and-go traffic. Do you ride a tricycle?

Honestly, I look better in my Class A uniform (the dress greens). The BDUs (Battle Dress Uniform) just doesn't look right on me and the new ones that are coming out makes it look worse. And yes, I am going to the Middle East, but not Iraq.

I answered the question with a question, does that count? To answer your question, Jones Soda rocks! Green Apple and Fufu Berry are my favorite. Do make gingerbread houses?
