  1. Kumba is the loudest overall coaster I've heard. Having worked on TTD, I've had the opportunity to walk in the restricted area under the tower with a hard hat on while the coaster was operating. Standing right behind the hydraulic room when a train launches is extremely loud.
  2. An Intamin accelerator coaster with an intense and unique layout. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
  3. Steel Phantom - Kennywood. So glad I got that credit.
  4. Huh? I really see nothing wrong with naming a ride after something scary or intimidating. Isn't that the point? Maybe this is more your style.
  5. Most Arrows and Vekomas have the side wheels on the inside of the track and have a tolerance between the wheels and rail, meaning they are not forced to grip the track like Intamin or B&M wheels. This tolerance of the side wheels is generally responsible for the roughness found on these coasters in turns or inversions.
  6. Can you elaborate on this? I'm curious what your suggestions are.
  7. A custom Arrow Dynamics coaster. Full of all the traditional Arrow awkwardness. Let me know what you think!
  8. Wood - El Toro Steel Non-looping - Intimidator 305 Steel Looping - Kumba
  9. Kings Dominion Six Flags Great Adventure Busch Gardens Williamsburg Cedar Point Holiday World Kings Island Canada's Wonderland Dorney Park Waldameer Conneaut Lake Park Michigan's Advenure Kennywood Busch Gardens Tampa Bay Fun Spot Old Town
  10. A handbuilt compact B&M floorless coaster. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
  11. Here's my newest project, Hurricane. My stand-up coaster Tsunami from 2 years ago has gotten a lot of views, so I wanted to create an encore project.
  12. Some steel coasters in the park have to be shut down at varying wind speeds. Top Thrill Dragster shut's itself down at sustained winds of 35mph at the top of the tower.
  13. Roughly 15mph I think. It says right on the control panel that it must be an empty train and requires management approval. We only used it if we knew it would roll back and wanted to ensure the train would go over. It's just easier to make sure a train we were sure would rollback would go over than to have it roll back and have to recalculate the launch. Using the launch boost would 'confuse' the ride and would take several cycles for the ride to adjust back to normal launch calculations. It also puts more stress on the trains and track at the top of the tower so the boost is only used sparingly. I only saw it used a handful of times all season.
  14. Top Thrill Dragster doesn't have a set minimum temperature, but if it's too cold the trains will not go over the tower after multiple launches in a row, even using the launch boost. It happened to us one day during opening week and we never opened for the day.
  15. Keep in mind Cedar Fair operates 3 of the 4 suspended coasters in North America. Clearly they have someone able to provide parts. Also, Iron Dragon will probably be around for a little while longer. Iron Dragon offers a ride for younger guests that would have to be replaced with an equal height requirement. Also, a lot of spot welding has been done on the track and support connections (seen by grey paint on the supports to cover the welding burn marks), so I can tell they don't plan on abandoning it.
  16. You'd be wrong. Top Thrill Dragster gets the highest annual budget by far.
  17. As an update we have begun debriefing the information we gathered from the survey. With TPR's help we were able to get 972 responses, way more than we ever expected. We appreciate your help! To follow our progress more closely you can visit http://www.psuthemeparkengineering.com/, our new official homepage! Thanks again! We hope your input and ideas can help us create the best amusement ride we can.
  18. The entire area between the queue entrance to the tower of TTD is a restricted area. I highly doubt that land would ever open up for a new ride. Plus that area is a hazard with loose articles flying all over the place. I have to wear a hard hat when I walk in that area to go pick up lost items.
  19. Manhattan Express Villian - Geauga Lake Gwazi Kingda Ka (back seat was awful)
  20. I highly doubt the tower has been topped off. Tivoli has the same model. See video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQR7s8dIrLg&feature=fvwrel Also, these towers have a very cool light display at night. To me this looks a lot more interesting than the more common Intamin drop tower.
  21. I think Verbolten is a very appropriate name, and it's translation is very fitting for a ride that is presumed to weave through the woods. I don't see why people would be worried about the name being a mouthful. I think Alpengeist is far from smooth off the tounge, but it's still an awesome name.
  22. I'd say the grass is greener on the east coast for coasters. Tatsu is also on my list.
