  1. I'm confused by this backward launch world first stuff - what would be different from say Revolution at Blackpool where the 2nd part of the ride you are 'launched' backward into the loop again. Does that not count?
  2. well Thursday 16th April it was busy and a day of queues. it was not helped with the number of rides that are not opening, nor by opening the park at 10.30 but both Valhalla and Grand National both had later opening (11.30) and also had closing times earlier than the other rides. Big Dipper was eating up the queues, as was the Big One. Grand National was painfully slow thruput. First time on Infusion - not sure why some folk criticise it, did not cause head banging, restraints are fine and has enough elements to be interesting. Our previous visit was October School holiday a couple of seasons ago and we rode everything we wanted multiple times, helped by the park extending opening on the day by a couple of hours. This time during the school Easter holiday, we did not even get round to some of the rides with the shorter hours and no on the day extension. Still had a great day, but so sad to see rollercoaster just sitting idle, same with Noahs Ark, not so bothered about Space Invader2.
  3. well Friday was a bank holiday in England, so some longer queues could only be expected at any theme park that day. Blackpool will be our first park of the season - Thursday next week. Shall see what the crowds are like then - and if the number of rides not opening up having a negative impact or not.
  4. ^ actually there is a surprise to this story. Camelot web site opening times page has been updated - to announce the park will be opening Saturday 23rd May!
  5. number of trains is listed as 5, what does that mean we will see when its running at full capacity? one in station loading, one out station waiting for launch, one waiting to enter station and therfore two out running round ?
  6. excellent news on the age - well it is for our family My middle son is over the 1.4m but would have failed on the age 10. but 1.3m and age 7 he is fine and can join me and his big brother in the Q So looking forward to riding this in July
  7. so looking forward to our first ever visit to europa park in early July. Saw a comment this is being called a family coaster - have the age and height limits been announced yet? Did not see mention of that yet.
  8. from what I recall from my visit a couple of years back, these wood effect pillars will make it fin in with the near by rides Mad Mill and Water Spin which had similar support colouring. Also Splash has a lot of wood - so again they are just showing consistency in their finer detail themining of the park.
  9. only been to one ball park Albuquerque Sports Stadium AAA Albuquerque Dukes the folks that took us said it was unique cause one area on top of the lava, they had a drive in. so folk would sit in their RVs and cars and watch the game - and picnic.
  10. all my years in manufacturing, often see Customer Xworks Customer DDU Customer DDP x-works = the customer will arrange the transportation from the factory to the final destination. no need to stick an actual customer name on the label - the Job number tells the system who the customer is plus it means any visitors from customer 1 at your factory don't see customer 2's name on stuff you are building.
  11. been a while since you looked at exchange rates then pound and euro almost equal now in the weird world of finance right now 12m pound is approx 12 m euro 12m pound is approx 18m dollar
  12. from the picture, new coaster has new entrance location as well. that should help as where the current entrance is on a busy did could get crowded with parents waiting for kids to finish the ride. New platform location will hopefully make the walk way quiter as people will be hanging around the larger open area.
  13. at the moment £1 is around $1.50 so you are talking of about $1230
  14. what a shame. the times we went, it always had a healthy queue, though the odd breakdown will have contributed. You see folk talk about not all elements working - well to the majority of folk, and I include myself, you don't notice if this feature or that feature was not working on that time round. So think its just hard core dot the i cross the t folk who really had a ride spoiled cause all technical elements were not perfect. I think the true nail in the Valhalla coffin will have been gas prices that have rocketed by hundreds of % in the UK in the short time the ride was open.
  15. Kulingen - first few trips never tried it cause none of my kids were tall enough and the swing boat motion rides can mess me up a lot. Last visit my eldest was old enough and the time of the ride against the time to get loaded , well it was poor and not worth the short wait. Cirkusexpressen - good job our youngest has graduated to Lisebergbanan, or there would be tears over this rumour. Was always a favorite with our kids. As soon as the ride was over a sprint round through the tunnel and q for next time. This was first time in 8years we have not made it to Liseberg in August, wont make that mistake in 2009. Always a fun break.
  16. any news on what is happening with the rainbow that was across the way from where this new ride is going?
  17. this looks fun and will fit in well at Skara Sommarland and their family market. Summer 2007 we drove up there on a day trip from Gothenborg and the big attraction was the waterpark - and all the long q's were for the water slides. At the end of the day we went to the rides and the theming on the powered mine train indoor section was fun (Trolls) and the whales instead of logs on the flume was a laugh. so this bird on a family coaster will slot in nice I think. Skara was a great day out in a waterpark with the bonus of some nice family rides. Liseberg was still the thrill part of the holiday.
  18. i say there is nothing wrong with the track, the problem is the cars! just look at that old photo - the backrests are flat, the OHR are giving the rider plenty of space. Now look at the video - the backrest has 'wings' to bash your head and ears on as your head moves side to side. Then the OHR are so much wider and again pressing on you more. Corky has not got rougher with age, its the restraints and headrests have got larger and are over the top and spoil the ride. Well, my opinion anyway.
  19. boo hiss well if they don't want it, give it away to some small local park that can care for it in its old age (any owner from Loudoun Castle reading this - you have the land, this can fill a we bit of it!) a whole generation of kids will now have to wait a bit longer before they can ride a 'grownup' coaster at AT. I cant imagine whatever they fill the gap with will offer a first inversion opportunity at the same age/height as corky does.
  20. Our summer break included a visit to the two theme parks in Yorkshire. A return (after about 15years) to Lightwater Valley and a first time visit to Flamingo land. This mini photo TR is the coasters on offer and what seems to be a competition between them for the most painful ride All just my opinion of course, but I bet many agree! The Ultimate v Corkscrew (not got all coasters - got so tired in the LWV Rat queue, forgot to take a picture) Enjoy. Kumali - a nice smooth suspended coaster wild mouse and its wonderful colours the bike was fun - just make sure you dont get pressed in too hard. old meets modern Corkscrews peak head bash point - how can anyone say the one at Alton is rough, this is THE rough corkscrew in the UK, and its slow Flamingo lands coaster of pain heads up its lift hill and for variety throw in a runaway mine train for the kids Flamingo Land went for Dragons instead of bugs The twister - just right on the spin front, not too much for those that dont like spins on a coaster grizzly bear - this was a laugh, a family friendly coaster. its about to drop you to a painful run through the valley - I am 6ft 4 and the forces bash my legs against the sides and next day bruised just to reveal its actually steel - and The Ultimate has more horrors to come wooden trestle coaster draws you in Caterpillar flashes past Ladybird in full flow they like their bugs at lightwater valley
  21. last time I had a business trip to Houston - I ended up with a weekend in the city. So I drove out to Space Centre and then needed to go somewhere for food - Kemah was the destination. This was pre Bullet days - the rides were ok but it was the monster boat into the bay that had the big Q's. If I find a future trip also has non work days - the boardwalk would be top of the list as it made a very refreshing break from the humidity of the city. The owners know this is the attraction of the place for locals in Houston and visitors and why they will get the food places up and running and then look to the amusements.
  22. ^ the last 2years they have made it look better with the small touches on the landscaping - well they do have a better start on Scotland's other 'theme park' by not being a concrete car park with rides. I think the park is great for what it is - small family aimed park for a relaxing day out. There is not much for the older teenagers, but plenty for the younger kids. I think rather than comparing to the big UK parks - people should compare to the travelling fairs. Last fair at Ayr low green, for the same price as a day at Loudoun Castle our kids got about 20minutes entertainment and had fewer rides to choose from. in response to some of the other comments: ride names - in context that it is in the Dougal McDougal's Farm part of the park, The Plough is a good name - but yes to call the moon a plough can seem strange. other names in here: Milk Churn, Barnstormer, Pony Trek, McDougals Tractors drunken barrels is in Pirates Cove which also has Black Pearl, Crows Nest, Regatta so some thought into the names in these areas. looked empty - it was! The weather forecast was very poor but they said we would get 4 dry hours and we did then it was wet!!!! Even though its just 20min away, we have only been 4 times, and the worst q was maybe 2minutes and that was cause the ride op wanted more than 3 people on twist n' shout before running it.
  23. Essential - depends on what you are into if you are big on custom Schwarzkopf then there is a park missing from the list. Camelot. Essential realy depends on what floats your boat.
  24. Loudoun Castle Theme Park is our local park - a small family aimed park, we don't have big theme parks in Scotland. Perfect for our eldest to go to with his friends for 10th birthday party. My first posting (other than in the welcome topic), and if I get this right I will do a photo TR from our visit to Yorkshire. Carousel - our last ride of the day, cause by know it was miserable in the rain. Nice ride, gentle rocking on the horses. lots of twist and the other side of pirates cove so much for it being summer - we were dry on the horses - you see twist n' shout in the distance One side of pirates cove area Rodeo Rider - a nice old ride Loggers Leap - its one drop gives a nice splash milk churn - turns your legs to butter pirate ship beside the plough the plough - a big chairswing black pearl about to loop regatta takes you a sail view to drunken barrels, kiddie coaster and kiddie tower if shorter you have a laugh on this tower if your 1.40m you can be shot out a Barn the flats like to twist you family park = got to have a family catapillar coaster the kids like it The Rat is the other main coaster time to be dizzy no OTS pain - just lap restraints needed Twist 'n shout train heads for the loop looking the other way - the other 'big' coaster The main coaster
  25. Hi, I am Danny, another regular guest reader who has seen the light and registered. Local park is Loudoun Castle. Got addicted to coasters back in 1973 when my dads work took us to NC for 18months. My own kids have re-ignited the flame - after one family trip to a theme park, they want all holidays to have at least 1 park nearby.
