*** THE BEBES *** Rainbow Magicland ITALY TR
Emiroo replied to The Bebes's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Congratulations on such an epic trip! I've enjoyed every post. You guys (and Big Mike too of course) have set the gold standard of TRs. Good photos, great storytelling & progression, clever captions, some crude humor, lots of peeing. Fantastic! Can we look forward to part Trois next year? And would you be down for Big Mike style meetups or do you like to keep it "vacation style"? Again, legendary TR. Thanks for the entertainment. -

I just got back from HW and it was packed today. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better for you. -
Was that a 110 with flash cubes or did you have the high end 110 with the built in flash?

I'm getting my wisdom teeth removed.
Emiroo replied to coasterdude5's topic in Random, Random, Random
Just make sure you go to an oral surgeon (not just a regular dentist) and you'll do great. Some regular dentists will take out wisdom teeth if requested, but they're not always properly trained on what to do if complications arise. I've heard more than a few horror stories that I won't scare you with. But a really good dentist recognizes that he is not skilled enough for wisdom teeth extraction and will refer you to the oral surgeon. I had my 4 wisdom teeth removed when I was 16 and I can tell you that nobody was more scared about it than me. I was having panic attacks in the days before the procedure. But it really was no biggie. I went to an oral surgeon. They put me in the chair and gave my an IV. My dad was with me and I was petrified and I looked at him and said, "The IV isn't working!" Then, BOOM! I was out. The next thing I remember, I woke up at home in my bed and it was all over. I'm not going to lie, I was in quite a lot of pain when I woke up. But then I took one of those prescription pain pills and it was naptime again. I made it out of bed the next day and resumed life. As others have mentioned, there was a lot of soreness, bruising and swelling, but it all goes away after about a week. I started my first job 4 days after I had them pulled if that helps you feel any better. If you have any more specific questions, just ask. Good luck! -

mini TR: Holiday World-Friday, June 26

Yikes Robb! My butt hurts from that reaming! LOL! Actually, I agree with many of your points but I guess I wasn't articulate enough. Voyage is definitely not a great coaster for rerides. I've only managed 3 consecutive rides before I have to take a break. And I am with you 100% that the Raven is hands down the best coaster in the park when it comes to smoothness and all-around coaster fun. What I was getting at is that the people I've ridden the Voyage with who have not ridden many coasters (especially wood) seem to complain more than usual about it being rough. But a good majority of coaster nuts who have been on lots of woodies and have "learned" how to ride wooden coasters (obviously excluding yourself) eat it up. Kind of like how you can have a nice time on a Boomerang if you know how to brace yourself. The rediculous part, and I think this is what got you so worked up, is that nobody (GP or enthusiast) should have to "learn" to ride a coaster to have fun or come away pain free on it. I agree with you 100% on that. I respect everyone's right to hate the Voyage and I too, must hold on for dear life after the turnaround (just ask Big Mike ). But the sheer intensity and experience that The Voyage does offer outweighs the sometimes brutal return trip and always leaves me breathless (in a good way)...everytime. Because of that, it's still my #1 wood that I've been on. But then again, my coaster count is quite meager. But I do appreciate your candid (and "conditioned") opinion on the matter. - Eric "still attempting to pick the glass & nails out of my butter" Baur -

I will say that if you are lucky enough to ride The Voyage after sunset, it is pretty much butter smooth. Of course given HW's limited evening hours, that's a hard credit to come by. But the difference really is (pardon the pun) night and day. -

The return trip on Voyage can be rough but I wouldn't say it's unenjoyable. I think it comes down to how conditioned you are to woodies. If you're used to riding them, it won't be a problem. However, if you usually ride steel, you're probably going to find it pretty jarring. I'm going to have to disagree about Raven being rough though. You must have gotten a bad seat/ride and that's rare in my experience. It's one of the smoothest woodies out there IMO. -
Best Re-ride Roller Coasters
Emiroo replied to AviatorCoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I gotta go with The Raven at HW for wood. I rode 12 consecutive times without a problem and could have gone more, but the kids were ready to leave. For steel, my pick would be Adventure Express at KI. However, that's kind of a gimme because the multiple lifts give you a break during the ride. -
I love these retro reports! What did you pay for the coaster car and how much did you sell it for?

Well I finally got around to scanning some old pics my Mom had pasted in her scrapbooks. Please excuse the photo quality as the books didn't fit easily into the scanner, not to mention the pictures themselves are pushing 30 years old. Here's some highlights from my trips to Silver Springs and Opryland way back in 1980. I was three years old at the time. Wish I had more but here's what I've got: Silver Springs This place is famous for it glass-bottom boat rides. I distinctly remember loving them. But for whatever reason, my parents didn't take a picture of them. You'll see the rest of it though along with the brochure and map. Front of 1980 Park Brochure Back of 1980 Park Brochure Inside of 1980 Park Brochure Part 1 Inside of 1980 Park Brochure Part 2 Inside of 1980 Park Brocure Part 3 1980 Silver Springs Park Map Me & my sister. Awwww. Nice Fountain. Cool masonry. Me & my Dad feeding the deer. More deer. For all you goat enthusiasts out there. I spy a giraffe. This is a classic Mom taken photo. Main Subject: Back of some guy's head. Also featured: An Ostrich. Zebras...through the trees! I can only find 2 animals in this picture. Do you see more? Finally, it's not Florida without the flamingos. Opryland USA Unfortunately, all I have are shots of me in the kids area. But something is better than nothing. Enjoy! When you're 3 it's fun to be in a padded room. I conquered the pyramid. Mini observation tower courtesy of Intamin. I bet you can't find a kid who doesn't love a ball pit Looks like the slide attendant is making a face... On the boat go round. On the carriage go round. Opryland sure loved "go round" kiddie rides. Check out the 1980 state of the art restraint system. It's a mini giant wheel! Opryland had the General Mills license in 1980. Here's Frankenberry. And what better way to end this report than with Count Chocula? Hope that brought back some memories for you old schoolers out there.

What have you been hit in the head with?
Emiroo replied to zaneymon's topic in Random, Random, Random
A go kart. And we're talking old-school ghetto go kart. No safety devices of any kind. Just 4 wheels, a seat, a steering wheel and an engine. I flipped it over doing a powerslide and it rolled over me and hit me in the head. Luckily I got away with just a scalp cut. No stitches needed, but still a cool scar that you can see whenever I cut my hair short. It was probably a miracle that I wasn't killed on that one. -
Can't wait for more Chuck! And I swear I do a double-take every time I see Olov in these Scandi reports. He is a doppleganger for a guy I was friends with in college. Of course he was from Germany and was named Dave but the incredible resemblance is still freaky.

I watched my first episode last night and was convinced the whole thing was staged by the end. The riders (especially female) are way too made up to be your typical GP parkgoer. Perfect hair, makeup and clothing that would never be your "normal" pick to wear to a park. Still, I'll probably tune in a few more times...as long as they switch parks/rides.

I defy you not to like Beat It, Billie Jean & Man in the Mirror. Those are all legendary songs. Thriller was the first record I ever bought. It's an odd feeling when your childhood heroes start dying...
