Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread
bearcut replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The only concept art picture on the website: If the trains look half as good as they do in this picture, we'll be in for a treat. -
Even though they no longer hold the rights to Thomas the Tank Engine? As for a ride removal/move...La Vibora, Pandemonium, and FlashBack are the only coasters that could feasibly be (re)moved. But what park (save SFA) needs any of those? SFOG doesn't have a Boomerang, Spinning, or Bobsled coaster. I doubt that's where any of those would go however.

I've decided that people need to be able to pass a test before they're given the right to use the internet. -

From Six Flags Over Georgia's announcement of no new rides, but 6 shows for the 2012 season; and the status teasing said announcement: I'd hate to see how her kids turn out... I'm gonna start using that as a comment on all TPR videos on Youtube. I wonder what this guy did when he found out about Canada's Wonderland... -
LA Times article that got leaked early. LINK Six Flags unveiled its 2012 lineup of new roller coasters, thrill rides, water slides and live shows at the amusement park chain's 12 North American locations. New Six Flags President and Chief Executive Jim Reid-Anderson said a full slate of new additions would become an annual event, promising to add a new attraction at "every Six Flags park every year." Six Flags' 2012 attractions include two new roller coasters, two relocated coasters, three tower rides, three water slide complexes and at least one show. Among the highlights: Six Flags Great America (outside Chicago) – Billed as the only wing coaster in the United States, X-Flight by Bolliger & Mabillard will feature barrel rolls and high-speed drops with seats that straddle the 3,000-foot-long track. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (Northern California) – The Superman: Ultimate Flight launch coaster will rocket riders at 60 miles per hour through a towering 150-foot-high inversion and a pair of vertical twists. Six Flags Magic Mountain (Southern California) – The Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom drop tower will be attached to both sides of the park's 415-foot-tall Superman: Escape from Krypton coaster tower. The new thrill ride will rank as the world’s tallest (400 feet) and fastest (85 mph) drop tower. Six Flags Great Adventure (New Jersey) and Six Flags Fiesta Texas (San Antonio) – Both parks will install Sky Screamer swing towers for 2012. Six Flags built Sky Screamers of varying heights at Six Flags St. Louis (236 feet) and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (150 feet) in 2011. No word yet on the ride heights at Great Adventure and Fiesta Texas. Six Flags America (outside Washington D.C.) – The 100-foot-tall Apocalypse stand-up coaster will travel at 55 mph through a loop and a corkscrew along a 2,900-foot-long track. The 1990 Bolliger & Mabillard coaster, formerly known as Iron Wolf, will be relocated from Six Flags Great America near Chicago. Six Flags New England (Massachusetts) – The 192-foot-tall Goliath inverted boomerang coaster will travel forward and backward at 65 mph through a cobra roll and a loop along a 1,200-foot-long track. The 2001 Vekoma coaster, formerly known as Deja Vu, will be relocated from Six Flags Magic Mountain near Los Angeles. Six Flags St. Louis (Missouri) and Six Flags Great Adventure (New Jersey) – Both parks will add a Bonzai Pipeline looping water slide to their respective Hurricane Harbor water parks. Great Escape (New York) – The Nordic-themed Alpine Freefalls water slide complex will be added to the Great Escape's Splashwater Kingdom water park. Six Flags Over Georgia (Atlanta) – A 45th anniversary tribute show will join the park's entertainment lineup. Six Flags Over Texas (Dallas/Ft. Worth), Six Flags Fiesta Texas (San Antonio), Six Flags Mexico (Mexico City) and La Ronde (Montreal) – Each of the parks will add a still-undisclosed ride, attraction or show in 2012.

Hard Rock Park becoming Freestyle Music Park becoming Rusting Coaster Heaven

I was actually at the park yesterday from Opening until the Storms hit around 3 PM. Rampage was a walk-on with one train operations all day. Was its usual rough ridin' self, which of course led to crazy/painful at times rides in the back. Zoomerang was closed all day due to it valleying after the loop. I was sooooooooooooooooooooo upset I didn't get to ride a Boomerang... Buzzsaw Falls was also a walk on. What you don't realize is how SOAKED you get on this ride. I sat in the last row and came off of the ride absolutely drenched. It also packs a punch if you're standing on the splash bridge. Saw a few kids get knocked to the ground from the splash. The Water Park was PACKED!!! And of course, was full of fatties. Saw one guy with White Power tattooed on his stomach, another lady with her jean shorts unbuttoned, her stomach hanging over her shorts, and her c-section scar visible. UpSurge had the longest wait of any of the slides. Security was also increased, with more staff walking around and bags being checked multiple times in line before the park opened. All in all though, the staff seemed very appreciative of everyone there and were very courteous. They'd even run rides if only one or two people wanted to ride them, which is a nice plus compared to the way the park used to be... EDIT: Apparently this "riot" deal is a Flash-Mob type thing that is going on all over the place according to what I heard. I wouldn't jump to conclusions like that, but it wouldn't be surprising if it ended up being true.

Erik & Misty's Smoky Mountain Adventures
bearcut replied to Electerik's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Thank y'all so much for doing this thread. I traveled up to the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area last Thursday-Saturday (Aug. 13th-15th) with the old youth group that I used to work with, and we went to Dollywood and rafted the Pigeon River. Thanks to y'alls thread, I was able to suggest plenty of time wasting activities for us to do at night while we were bored. We ended up checking out MagiQuest and had an absolute ball. Even though the pirate mini golf course ended up cheating me out of multiple holes in one. At least I was able to make it to the level of Senior Magi. It will be long long before MagiQuest forgets the awesomeness of Magi Tom Cruise! -
You know Big Mike, I've been reading your thread for a while, and found it to be quite engrossing and very interesting, but alas, for all of your competitions and challenges, there hasn't been one that I haven't thought "Wow, I am/will more than likely gonna get spanked in this...maybe I'll hold off for now..." UNTIL THIS VERY MOMENT!!!! I would like into your Fantasy Football league. Heck, all I basically do at work is watch football...how hard could it be. Count me in.

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
bearcut replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sorry if already posted, but here's the stupidest thing I think I've ever seen the GP do. Granted it's just a video, and I didn't take it, but it's beyond stupid... -
There are also AP stories out about it, so I trust the source.

Steve McNair, former All-Pro and MVP Quarterback of the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens, was found dead from a gunshot to the head in a condo in Downtown Nashville today. That brings us up to six celebrities since Ed McMahon died last week... Oh, and Rupert Gint, aka Ron Weasley from the Harry Potter movies, has swine flu...

You know how they say celebrity deaths come in threes? Well, leave it to Billy Mays to throw in a 4th one ABSOLUTELY FREE OF COST!!!

Stratosphere's New 'Ride'
bearcut replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is one of those rides that before I did it, I'd be there's no way, then once I got up there I'd be like "Okay, this is gonna be awesome"...and then I look over the edge...and begin crying like a little schoolgirl. -
