Another Coaster Credit Question
OldJJman replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You are lucky! Deja-Vu @ SFMM, 17 rides on media day Deja-Vu @ SFGA, went in '02, '03 and finally rode it this year. ('05) Deja-Vu @ SFoG, went in '02, '03, '04 and '05. I have yet to ride it. JJ -
Strangely enough, X:\WTF was so bizare, that I actually liked it for the experience! Not like I was in any hurry to ride it again. It was just so.. so.. so.. yeah, whatever. Different would be a good word (being kind also). For me, the 2 wooden coasters that I never "got" were the CI Cyclone. It was smooth, some laterals, some airtime (ejector) but that was it. Historically significant or not, I just don't "get" it. The other coaster I never "got" was the Phoenix. (Been to 2 PPP) Nice park, nice setting, some air, no real laterals etc... I juz dun gitit! JJ

The Revolution--back in the day
OldJJman replied to coasterboy76's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Unfortunately, this picture is not an accurate representation of how the ride actually operated. First off, it's a composite of at least 4 different pictures. You can see the composite seams of where the pictures were assembled. Second, when it was running 5 trains, a train was never dispatched until the train ahead of it passed the station (beginning of the third hill). There were never really more than 3 trains out on the course at any one time, with one in the final brakes and one in the station. There are/were actually 4 stages of the final brake run to hold all 5 trains IIRC. To get the infamous "threading the needle" pics on the loop, the second train wouldn't be dispatched until the previous train had crested that third hill. It was quite an incredible machine during that time. Lines would stretch to the carousel and never be more than 45 minutes long. Someone had also mentioned the airtime coming out of the tunnel. O-M-G!!! The back seat was pretty scary, because as you'd come screaming out of the tunnel, you'd see the train going over your head, forget about the change in direction and the airtime would catch you so off guard. It was awesome!! Someone else had also asked why the OTSR's were added. Does the Simpson's "Tooth Chipper" ring a bell?? A BIG problem in the early years was when the speed of the Revolution went basically unchecked (aka brakeless) and the loop pulled in excess of 5 G's, people would lean forward going into the loop, and the g-forces would end up catching people off guard and chipping teeth (seriously) along with bruised and broken noses/cheeks, people biting their tongues etc... Since Schwartzkopk had not designed OTSR's, yet other looping coasters at this time (mostly Arrow) did, it was decided to add them. They went with the quick fix, and have permanently defaced and neutered the Revolution. Unfortunately, here in the land of the lawsuit, that will NEVER change. Long live the "Memories" of the Revolution. JJ -

I actually emailed them that question. The response was along the lines of "We'll consider it, if sales are high enough and there is a great enough demand. JJ -

Is Derek the poster boy for RCT3?
OldJJman replied to Guy T. Koepp's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There are no words to describe how sad this is. I feel for you, I really do. Ya know, I have to agree with that assessment, even though the comparrisons are quite uncanny!! At least Derek can now be famous for something good! JJ -

Best And Worst Coaster In California
OldJJman replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nope. Just an aging enthusiast (aka credit whore). LOL! Sad, isn't it! (At least it was only $1!) No. Actually, until you responded, I didn't know that existed!! To make matters worse, I love live steam train models. I used to be a member of LALS (Los Angeles Live Steamers at Griffith Park). I may have to get up there next summer on my way to do the parks in Oregon. I did a trip in 2001and hit quite a bit of "off the beaten path" places (including the now defunct J's Amusement Park in Guerneville  ). By the end of that trip I had ridden every coaster in CA, except the one in Tahoe, the two in Fresno and Goliath Jr. at SFMM. (side note- AFAIK-one of the coasters in Fresno has since been taken down, and another one added to replace it. Not sure of the exact story on that one.) Another on the list (not in CA) of places not wanting to admit to being to (OK, I'll admit it, I have an ego) is Storybook Land in Egg Harbor Township, NJ., just to ride "Bubbles The Coaster" Sad indeed. What about the Flying Dragon at Funderland in Sacramento, or the Flying Dragon at Pixieland Park?? Check out the pics of the coasters at Funderwoods and Funderland on RCDB. I took them. Jeff (feeling superior) -
A classy, EXCELLENT video. Thanks for sharing. ^As far as Ultra Twister goes, it's a quirky, fun, little ride. Can be a head banger. Actually, it was a lot more fun to watch than ride (though I did manage about 7 rides during an ERT session a couple of years ago). JJ
