  1. I'm sure Aerosmith won't mind... Rick on Roll-er Coaster
  2. Cable/Elevator lifts similar to those on Millennium are no more/less safe than traditional chain lifts. Both systems work very effectively, and both systems have had failures/incidents. Nothing to be paranoid about...
  3. It was the passholder appreciation day, but the park was open to the public. Regardless, from what I hear, the lines were very short (comparable to May weekday).
  4. 9 duckies is my official guess... Some of those were tough!
  5. I already took one 90 mile trip down to the park earlier this year before the Hawg opened, but it sounds like I need to make another trip... Im really looking forward to riding SH. While I had great rides on LoCoSuMo this year, I was a bit dissapointed with Cornball this year. It just felt much rougher than I remember... Still alot of fun though, and you can't beat the backseat. I dont know if Falling Star has been open at all this season? Every TR I have heard has said it was closed, and it was down when I was there in June... Sad, because its my favorite Falling Star/Rainbow that I have been on. Also, was Air Crow open? I love those flyers, but they were also down in June...
  6. Hey Big Mike! Long time reader, first time poster to TBMRS! I have really appreciated all your updates, and enjoy your commentary! Kudos on the Blackberry! I just got one myself (Curve 8310) and love it! Keep up the good work!
  7. Yes, that song on the website was composed by the park for Maverick. It has not been released as a legal mp3. Some people have used their own methods of "acquiring" one though.
  8. Im surprised the Wipeout isn't more popular. When I was at Waldameer over Memorial Day there were always quite a few people in line for it. It was the first time I had rode that particular model and I thought it was great! The final spin cycle at the end really caught me off guard! FWIW, they do allow single riders on the Wipeout at Waldameer.
  9. Kara, you know I would be up for it! Although I would much prefer a Rock N' Tug marathon
  10. I got a hard earned credit on this ride last summer... The ride broke down numerous times while waiting in line... A few boats got stuck before the drop and maintenance had to climb the lift and push it over the small dip before the drop. After that they parked a maintenance person at the base of the lift, and had him drain each boat once it pulled up onto the lift, slowing the whole process down even more. Once we finally got on the ride we got to the base of the lift, and stalled. Our boat failed to engage with the lift. One ride host came over and started shoving our boat, but to no avail. Then the ride operator, left her post and the E-stop unmanned, and came over to our boat... there she jumped up and down on top of the boat while the LIFT WAS STILL RUNNING!!... If she would have fallen onto the lift, there would have been no one to stop the ride... Eventually more maintenance came and shoved us up onto the lift, drained our boat, and sent us on our way. And the ride was just as terrible as we thought it would be. We waited well over an hour for a line that couldnt have been more than 20 people, and then were on the ride for 15 minutes or so... I put a few pictures below that my good friend Kara was able to take since she didn't ride (she already had the credit ) Here is the point where we realized we are just a bunch of credit whores... Finally... a ride! That's not working? Ok, then just jump on the boat! Pay no attention to the moving chain lift! Oh No! We were stuck... quick ride hosts, leave your posts and push our boat with your legs! Finally we set sail! We were ready for our journey! First, Maintenance had to climb the track... with no harness... just to push an empty boat along the course...
  11. Presque Isle is a great relaxing place to spend the morning before the park opens at 1 PM...
  12. Thanks for the info. If I had to pick between Canobie, SFNE, and Lake Compounce, which would you recommend? I'm assuming SFNE because of Superman, but I have also heard great things about Boulder Dash.... Now I just have to figure out a rental car situation... or just stay in the city and find things to do other than riding coasters... Yes, I have been to Boston once before and have seen the tourist sights already.
  13. Sorry! Still learning the ropes here at TPR
  14. I will be in Boston from Aug 20-24 for a software conference, and in my downtime I was hoping to hit some nearby parks. I know that Canobie, SFNE, and Lake Compounce are all relatively close, but I was just curious if anyone on here was from the area and knew any public transportation options. I really want to avoid renting a car if possible. Or if there are any other coasters near Boston that I am missing, please let me know.
  15. The swings look like the swings at Indiana Beach now! And, at least they can now market that coaster as having an exciting "splashdown" effect. Thanks for the pics!
  16. Great TR! I loved my first trip to Waldameer this summer. RFII was incredible, but I enjoyed several other rides as well. I thought Comet was good for what it was, I was very surprised by how fun the flume was, and the drop tower was much more intense than I expected, and had an awesome view! As far as the food goes, I agree that the food in the middle section wasn't too great, but their fresh cut fries from the stand near the water park entrance were wonderful! Here is a picture of us hamming it up for the on-log photo! This was supposed to be more posed, but we all look like idiots instead!
  17. I'm surprised to hear the great reviews of Game Day Grille. I finally tried it out on my last visit, and was not happy at all. Slow service, incorrect orders, warm beer, and other problems made me not want to return there anytime soon. I have always found that Famous Dave at the CP Marina is the best value/quality food in the park. Also... If you are contemplating staying in the park, I highly recommend Lighthouse Point. You have your own cabin/cottage with kitchen and outdoor deck, as well as being right on the lake. It's a bit more expensive, but if you have a group going I highly recommend it over Hotel Breakers or Sandcastle. Just my 2 cents.
  18. I would not be shocked if the length is only 4200'. Goliath at SFOG is only 280 feet longer than that, and it is one incredible ride! As long as it is similar (no MCBR), I will be more than happy!
  19. Wow.... I have never noticed that before... I think I will forget you ever said that...
  20. I did a search and didn't find any previous topics about this, but I am a "newbie", so I may have missed it (sorry!). I know Robb and Elissa got married at WDW and the marriage on the Voyage has been in the news lately, but I was wondering if anyone else has any good stories about engagements or weddings at Amusement or Theme parks? To get things started here is a picture of my fiancee and I when I proposed to her at Cedar Point! I bought her a CP frame at the beginning of the season and told her we should save it for a special picture. When we went in August I suggested that we had one of the Kodak folks take our picture for the frame. She agreed, so I asked the employee if I could pick the pose. He seemed a bit confused, but when I went down on one knee and took the little box out of my pocket, he knew exactly what was happening, and the rest is history! As you can tell from the pic she was very surprised. Because of this day, Magnum has become "our" ride. It was our first engaged ride together, our first engaged ERT together, and now is our first ride every time we go to the park! Our CP Engagement!
  21. I can't speak for KI, but for Cedar Point, it's no secret, housing/employee morale at the park can be pretty low. However, it is nothing like this article has stated. During the 2 seasons I worked there we had an employee bus that would take those without cars into town for errands. There was also an entire department dedicated to employee events such as trips, ride nights, etc... The one sore spot was housing... The living conditions in either of my years were not ideal... Beds breaking and not getting fixed, lack of good AC in most dorms, small, cramped, and overcrowded, and let's just say the wages didn't make up for it much... I met some lifelong friends working at the park, but the job/housing left much to be desired. It sounds like things are starting to turn around at KI... I only hope this continues.
  22. I, for one, am actually looking forward to heading down to the park this weekend to try the 'Hawg' out... Im not expecting it in my top 10 by any means, but it looks better than I originally thought. I have heard some other reviews that say the ride is very intense and you have to brace for some of the turns, but it's possible to get off without headbanging. As long as it is better than FoF at KI when it had OTSRs...
