  1. ^This is true. It's going to happen eventually, when you find the right person, you will spend more time with them than with your friends. And there's nothing wrong with that, and your friends will eventually do the same thing; that's part of being an adult and having adult relationships. However, you can always make time for friends. I've been married five years and my girlfriends and I still get together one night a month for girls' night.
  2. Awesome. Aren't you near Huntsville? Some of the comments on her blog were saying that it may appear over Huntsville since the space center is there. Pfft. I wonder if this is an event that would constitute stockpiling bread and milk.
  3. Hilarious! I almost tried to talk my husband into going, but I decided against it. Thumbs up for the Wicked reference!
  4. I caught that too! Columbia is awesome. If I were to ever perform that show, she's who I would want to play. The pictures are awesome. But I'm a big scaredy cat and could never go to an event like this. I hate haunted houses. Not really one for gore. Now if it were "real" ghost hunting I'd be all in!
  5. I almost spit my coffee out when I read that. I wonder if they're coming to take all the scientologists home.
  6. I'm curious to see what she says on October 15 when they haven't shown up yet.
  7. I was so peeved that I forgot to record it last night; had to go grocery shopping. Thankfully though, it comes on G4 tonight. I am totally addicted to it too. I don't want to know what happened though; don't want to ruin the surprise tonight. I'm such a dork.
  8. I ran a search and didn't see where anyone had posted this. I was listening to Rick and Bubba on the radio this morning and they were talking about this. Apparently this kook says that aliens have given her a message that they are coming on October 14, 2008, specifically to Alabama. I wonder if they ride rollercoasters. http://blossomgoodchild.blogspot.com/2008/08/message-from-federation-of-light.html
  9. I wouldn't date a best friend's ex. It can just lead to a lot of complications in your relationship with your friend, as well as your relationship with the girl. I don't know either of these people so this is just hypothetical, but suppose their relationship ended badly, she may bad mouth your friend, your friend may bad mouth your girl, etc., etc. They could try to use you to get back at each other. I just wouldn't go there if I were you. There are plenty of other girls out there that haven't dated your best friend. Try to find one of those!
  10. ^Good advice! Just be yourself, because obviously that's what she's interested in. Don't try to act like what you think she wants.
  11. Wow, that must have been nice to have the park practically all to yourselves. I really want to get to Dollywood some day. It looks like a lot of fun. Great pictures!
  12. Nope, sorry. We didn't have our kids with us. It took me forever to convince the others to ride the Canyon Blaster. There was no way they were going to Thomas Town.
  13. I'm trying to resize the pictures right now. I'll get the hang of it! EDIT: They're done! I hope this is a good size now. I'm learning!
  14. I'm not sure how they ended up so small. I can never get the sizing right on photobucket. I'm not very computer savvy.
  15. Okay, finishing up... We passed a character parade. Bugs. Tweety. Daffy got the ghetto car. All the other characters got nice floats, but not Daffy. Foghorn and Taz. Do you see Wonder Woman and Green Lantern in there? Okay, story time. Remember when I said I was deathly afraid of heights? Well, that came into play when it was time to ride Goliath. Last year I chickened out, so I thought I could do it this year. See, we actually went to Goliath before any of the other coasters. They knew I was terrified to ride it because of the height thing. But I got in line and waited, not very long. We got up to the station and the whole time I was looking at the lift hill thinking there is no way I can do this. I had this terrified look on my face and Tim asked me if I was okay and I swear I teared up. Y’all I had tears in my eyes because I was so scared. So Danny and I sat that time out and Holli and Tim rode. We came back later though and I rode it and loved it! I was praying to the Lord the whole way up the lift, but I swear to you, not halfway down the first drop my arms were in the air and I didn’t put them down until the brake run. I felt so stupid for getting so scared the first time. I want to go back now just to ride Goliath again! Goliath's first drop. Goliath with the Scorcher in the background. Goliath train. We rode the Shake, Rattle & Roll and were a little disappointed that they weren't turning the lights off. Danny asked the ride op when we were getting on if they were going to turn them off and they said they weren’t working. I didn’t understand that, I mean, the lights were on, you can turn them off, right? The strobe lights were working but the effect is not the same if the main lights are on. Plus there was one ride op just standing around talking while the other one checked all the cars by himself. The cars and balloon ride. We didn’t even venture up carousel hill to where these are. Just took the picture in passing. The Wheelie is always a lot of fun. Action shot, starting up. Little bit higher. Vertical! Holli and I decided to sit out the Ninja because we didn’t feel like having our brains leak out our ears. But Danny and Tim are tall enough not get their heads batted around so they rode. You can’t see very much of it now because they’ve put up game buildings and picnic pavilions blocking the view. Little bit more. Great American Scream Machine. We didn’t ride the Scream Machine. Last year it gave me a terrible headache. I don’t know if it was as rough this year or not, but I didn’t want to risk it. What’s that I see? Bah-bah-bah-bah-bah….bah-bah-bah! That probably didn’t come across as well in words as it did in music in my head. So insert the Superman theme here. Superman goodness. Caught the train coming out of the pretzel loop. And here’s the pretzel. Superman station. Monster Plantation. Holli and Tim going in. It’s an ACEr baby! And an ACE buffet. Danny and I leaving Monster Plantation. The Georgia Scorcher entrance. This is another one that you can’t get good pictures of from inside the park. Here's one more: And now I’ll close this TR with my attempt at climbing one of those shaky rope ladder things. Notice the crooked, nervous smile. I’m not too confident. Getting started. Going a little… Little bit further… FAIL! So that’s it. I hope y’all enjoyed my first TR for an actual park. Thanks for reading! Oh, I’m not really a big chicken about coasters. I love them. I’m just a big chicken about being 200-something feet in the air. But I got over it!
  16. Ha, my ass was already in pain from a bruised tailbone that happened a couple of weeks ago, so I didn't want to aggravate it.
  17. This past Saturday my husband, Danny, and I, and my friend Holli and her husband Tim, went to Six Flags Over Georgia. We had an awesome time. Some of the ride ops were not too enthusiastic about their jobs, and that made some of the load times slow. But all in all we had a great day. I know y’all are just here for the pictures. Now, I am no kind of photographer, and I took these with my little pocket-sized Kodak point and shoot, so don’t expect any quality photos here. But anyway, here we go: We left our house at 6:55 a.m. Here we are, ready to go in. The view from our parking spot. Goliath’s helix from the parking lot. Goliath and a little bit of Scorcher as we walk in. The main street section as you enter the gate. And a freakishly tall man in pink shirt. I didn’t notice him when I was taking the picture. I’m not sure how I missed that. As we turn right after entering we’re greeted by this: Georgia Cyclone. We didn’t ride this. I’ve never ridden it but I’ve heard horror stories about how rough it is, and Holli and Tim had both had terrible experiences on it, so we passed. But here’s another picture of it anyway: Moving on we come to: Acrophobia. Danny, Tim and Holli rode while I waited. You’re not getting me on that thing. I am deathly afraid of heights. I almost have a panic attack climbing a ladder. Remember that because it comes up again later. This was Danny’s first time to ride Acrophobia and his hands were shaking when they got off. Another indication that I should not ride. Here’s another picture: The sky looks really pretty. On around the bend we come to: Dahlonega Mine Train, which was really rough. No re-rides, thanks. At this point I’ve lost track of what order we did things in, so I’m just going to group pictures of each ride together, but not necessarily in the order we rode them. Sorry, my memory sucks. Feet! That picture was an accident, but it shows that I wore crocs. I’m telling you, no matter how ugly they are, they’re great to wear to a park. They’re comfortable, and they have that little strap to keep them on your feet. Holli and Tim both wore flip-flops and they had to take their shoes off on most of the coasters. Bwahahaha, should’ve worn crocs! Moving on…. Entrance to Bugs Bunny World, obviously. We walked through here on our way to…. The kiddie coaster! And you thought it was going to be something exciting, didn’t you? Yes, we rode the Wile E. Coyote Canyon Blaster, and it was fun, darn it. Canyon Blaster track. More Canyon Blaster. Gotham City entrance. Make sure you go through here because one of the best coasters in the park is in here. And here it is: At least here’s the sign for it, anyway. You really can’t get a picture of Mindbender from inside the park. This is about all you can see: The brake run. But it’s a great coaster, and not to be missed, so make sure you venture back to this dead end of the midway. And, while we’re back here, how about a search for PMW? You knew it was coming, right? It may be lurking in here somewhere. Do you see any down there? Y’all, I swear there was a hat under the coaster. I wanted to get a picture of it but there were people behind us so I didn’t want to hold up the line, that was actually moving really quickly. I tried to snap it as I was walking but I missed. This is the picture I ended up with: No PMW here either. I did get a picture of the parking lot fence. Care for a climb? Supports, but alas, no PMW. Since our search was fruitless we decided to just go ahead and ride the coaster. And while we were in Gotham they had a little crime wave… No actual villains, just the swings. The Crime Wave. And now since I have some actual work to do, I’m going to take a break. I have lots more pictures that I’ll do later.
  18. "Oh it don't make no kind of sense. Big ol' ox like Grady won't sit next to a colored child. But he eats eggs- shoot right outta chicken's ass!" This one is so quotable: Steel Magnolias.
  19. Digging up this thread again. I've been married for five years to a drama geek. We met doing community theater. Yes, I'm a drama geek too. He also is a freak about Alabama football, plays video games, watches war documentaries and Star Trek. But I wouldn't change anything. We have some similarities, and differences too, and that works well. I'm not a girly, girl, either, and we enjoy a lot stuff together (action movies, Ghost Hunters, Star Wars, etc.); but there are also some things I like that he can't stand (Grey's Anatomy, romantic movies, i.e. chick flicks). You don't want someone who is exactly the same in every hobby, etc. Life would get boring. BUT you do want someone who can respect what you like and let you enjoy, even though they may not want to participate. As for the younger people, don't be constantly on the lookout for love. Just enjoy being young! I didn't even date in high school. I was too busy with more important things, like my education, and also extracurriculars (danceline, choir, etc.). I just didn't have time to think about relationships. And I wouldn't change a thing. You're never going to get these years back so enjoy them while you can. Don't have wasted your teenage years stressing over not finding a gf/bf. My husband and I met the summer after I graduated high school in 1999. We even made several attempts at dating before it finally clicked. And we both dated other people in the interim, but we managed to find our way back to each other. We didn't officially become a couple until 2002, and married in 2003. All the other times things just weren't right, for some reason or another. There were other things we had to go through and accomplish in our lives before it worked out for us. But you will find someone when the time is right for both you and her/him. Things have a way of working themselves out. When you're not looking for love is most likely when it's going to find you. And to those of you who subscribe to abstinence until marriage, I commend you! I was one of those, as well. It's great to see teenagers who still believe it's best to wait.
  20. For some reason the wikipedia page is not there anymore. I swear to you it was there when I posted the link this morning, and now, poof, it's gone. Oh well, here's their actual website: http://noccfalls.homestead.com/
  21. Noccalula Falls is located about five miles from house (not technically a "trip"), and is the only tourist attraction in Gadsden, Alabama. It’s no destination spot, but if you happen to be passing through it’s worth a stop. Here’s the wikipedia entry for Noccalula Falls Park just to give you a little background information, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noccalula_Falls_Park. The falls is usually nothing more than a trickle, but when we get lots of rain it gets bigger, obviously. The creek that it’s a part of runs parallel to the road that I live on. The creek was raging yesterday and as we were driving home Ally pointed to it and said, “Wow, Mommy, look at all that water!” So of course after we ate supper we had to drive down to see the actual falls. Sorry the pictures a little fuzzy, but it was misting rain so they didn't turn out that great. Here is what it usually looks like on any normal day: Not too terribly exciting. Now, here is what it looks like right now, compliments of Faye: A little more impressive, huh? My husband took that picture using the motion setting on the camera. I took this one without the motion setting: Here’s a couple of shots of the creek leading up to the falls. Usually it’s pretty calm, there are lots of ducks swimming around, no kind of fencing or anything to keep you away from the water. Check it out now: There aren’t any ducks swimming in that! Y’all. Y’all. This is a creek! Here’s another with the motion setting: Without motion setting: There’s a trail that leads into the gorge and behind the falls. I bet no one’s going to be going behind the falls anytime soon! You can’t even see behind it right now. The mist at the bottom: And I leave you with a picture of me and my girls leaving: One of these days I’ll get over to the other side of the park where the “attractions” are (train, petting zoo, pioneer village, etc.), and do a trip report. But you actually have to pay to get in there, and I’m pretty cheap so it may not happen anytime soon. Hope y’all enjoyed it!
  22. I think ads show up like that on websites based on what the story is about. Like sometimes on myspace when you're looking at someone's picture there will be photography ads on the side of the page. Sometimes they can just end up being funny like that coffee one.
  23. Great pics! If you scroll down through the rapid fire ones it kind of makes the train look like it's in motion, you know like the little cartoon flip books.
  24. You two are hilarious! A couple of things... Crocs, while certainly not the most fashionable shoes, are great to wear to a park because (a) they're darn comfortable, (b) you can flip the little straps around to the back so they don't fall off on rides, and © the little holes in the top let them dry out quickly after water rides. Someone needs to tell the Jonas Brothers that their pants are too tight, and they need to stop trying to bring the 80s look back.
  25. For some reason everyone thinks people want to buy old glass bottles. I mean practically every vendor had glass bottles. Just junk. Now some people actually have antiques and stuff, but most people don't. The place that had the lovely tire flowerpots also had tire parrots and horses. We usually only go about 10 miles up. Kettlecorn was a big thing this year; there were kettlecorn booths everywhere. Usually you can find really good lemonade but we couldn't find any this year, only kettlecorn.
