Gillian's Funland Discussion Thread
Canobie Coaster replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not sure if this is the right spot, but does anyone know what happened to the Super Flipping Arm that Gillian's Wonderland Pier was building for 2017? It was under construction during my visit two years ago, but now there is no mention of it on the website. I'm curious if it ever even opened. -
Funtown Spashtown Discussion Thread
Canobie Coaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was considering heading out to Funtown tonight, but decided against it when I saw the iffy weather forecast. When I was checking the park website for any weather updates, I found this bit of news that went under the radar. For 2019, they replaced the old air dome of the Astrosphere with a concrete one. I'm intrigued to see how that impacts the ride experience (if at all) since the light show really makes this ride unique. Link -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
Canobie Coaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I prefer to keep a shirt on in water parks to avoid getting sunburns. The only time I remove it is if a park has a body slide where it isn't allowed. Fortunately Holiday World is all tube slides. -

^ I don't remember the waits inside the park being overly oppressive. Most major rides looked to have a half hour wait. -
Knoebels Discussion Thread

I saw a photo circulating that the Pioneer Train crashed. Can anyone confirm? -
I've heard the ops at this park are wretched. If I show up on a sunny Sunday, roughly how busy do the coasters get? From past reports it sounds like there's no guarantee rides open with the park, but if I show up late the max crowds will have arrived. I'm trying to figure out what the worst wait is at this park (1 hour?).

1) Yes it opened mid-June. No guarantee it'll be open on any given day, but it definitely won't open if it rains. 2) I had one employee say that he wishes an RMC Raptor went in its place, but that just seemed like wishful thinking. I know it's a maintenance headache, but people are willing to wait a long time to ride it and it admittedly looks super intimidating on the midway.

How long has the Cyclone required the front two cars to be filled before anyone car ride in the back car? That rule made it quite tricky to get the back row yesterday at the end of the night. Fortunately I got my back row ride earlier in the day. It's a glorious, air-time filled car wreck back there. I don't remember that being a thing back in 2016. Last year, I went on $5 weekend so it never came into play.

^ I haven't gotten there for opening yet this year so I can't speak to the entry process, but I can speak on the water park. Their most unique slide is Typhoon, their water coaster. On most days, it'll have a queue to the bottom of the tower (1 hour). It has some tall drops, but I don't remember any air and the uphill portions are a conveyor belt as opposed to the water jets or LIMs on most. As for the other slides, Swiss Family Toboggan is one of those family raft slides, but it swings pretty high up the trough. Tornado is good albeit no different than other funnels. Bonzai Pipeline is visually stunning, but it's quite rough on your back. I usually don't go to the water park since it adds the hassle of bringing a bag and dealing with the crowds, but it is pretty big and has a lot of slides.

Six Flags New England- Only Riding Goliath Me- “What if I told you I visited Six Flags New England and didn’t ride Superman or Wicked Cyclone?” Friend- “Holiday in the Park?” Me- “True. But what if I told you I visited Six Flags New England and only rode Goliath?” Friend- “You need to enter the NFL’s concussion protocol.” It sounds like a nightmare. It sounds like some sort of sick joke. But it was real. Springfield was our meeting place to carpool up to Lake George. Since I arrived an hour early, I figured that was just enough time to squeeze in a quick ride on Superman. I made my way towards Superman. With its new wheels, Superman has been squealing like a baby pig. But it was eerily quiet. Was it closed? I was hopeful the park was practicing its 10 minute dispatches. That’s probably the only time I’ll ever utter such a phrase. Plus I knew it was unlikely since Superman usually has the best crew in the park. But no, Superman was parked on the lift. Normally I’d wait it out, but I didn’t have time. Superman was taking its typical afternoon nap. So I hightailed it over to Wicked Cyclone. While it wouldn’t quite beat a front row ride on Superman, it’s darn close. More like darn closed. Of course Wicked Cyclone was also closed. The weather forecast was calm and not calling for any wicked cyclones. Since I was in the area I figured I might as well ride the New England SkyScreamer at sunset. I’ve ridden it during the day, night, cold, wind, but never during sunset. The views would be stunning. Too bad 24 invisible riders were getting the longest ride of their lives. If you couldn’t read through the sarcasm, it was also closed. The gondola was parked atop the tower. I hope those ghosts enjoy the view. At this point, I probably should have admitted defeat. But then I realized I was in a parallel universe. Superman, Wicked Cyclone, SkyScreamer, and god knows what else were all closed, but Goliath was somehow running. Yes freaking Goliath. The ride that takes 7 month vacations and calls in sick more often than not was open. What are the odds Goliath would be open and the other rides would be closed? With each ride on Goliath, my opinion has soured. - In its first two seasons, the ride was fantastic with the original Vekoma trains. - In its third and fourth seasons, I defended the new train. While others bashed it, I had yet to experience a ride I would call rough or uncomfortable. - In its fifth season, I finally got a rough ride in the middle of the train. - In its sixth season, it was rough everywhere but the front and back. - In its seventh season, it was rough everywhere but the front. I felt like I was walking to my own grave, but by some miracle I was awarded the front row. The first drop was pure bliss. Even in a park with an Intamin hyper and an RMC, it’s my favorite drop in the park. But then the pain began. It was a brutal concoction of headbanging, back slaps, and ball pinching. I’ve now been converted. I now see the light. This ride is bad. In its eighth season, Goliath is rough everywhere. David may have beaten Goliath in the Bible, but this Goliath was beaten by the new trains. While enthusiasts seem to share similar sentiments, the ride seems to remain quite popular with other guests. 2 out of 10 I decided to commemorate my experience. There was no on-ride photo, but I least I have this beauty from the clearance section of the gift shop. Maybe that's a sign. Since SFNE is one of my home parks and it was en route to my final destination, I found the whole experience laughable. Superman and Wicked Cyclone probably were just temporarily closed, so I was just unlucky. No big deal since I go there so often. Plus I was able to console myself with Nicky’s Pizza. Anyone who buys the $40-50 large cheese pizza at Six Flags should be forced to stare at this pizza for eternity. Four grown, ravenous adults couldn’t finish it. And it was only $20-25. I love pizzas that are two humans wide!

TPR's Ever Evolving Park Index

Story Land The Slipshod Safari has been rethemed as the Rap-Tour Safari. It uses the same tram vehicles, but the scenes have been swapped out entirely. Storyland Queen has been closed. Some of the names are a bit off if you want them updated. - Flying Dutch Shoes just goes by Dutch Shoes. - Mad Hatter's Tea Cup Ride should be Alice's Tea Cups. - Miniature Antique 1928 Cars just goes by Antique Cars. - Pumpkin Coach Ride should be Cinderella's Pumpkin Coach. Luna Park I have some photos of Clockworkz and Atlantic Aviator. Adventureland (NY) The Ladybug Coaster was renamed and re-themed to the Rattlesnake Coaster. I don't know if it's all new ride hardware or not, but the Crocodile Run has been replaced or rethemed to Saf-T-Swim's Rescue Boats. The page is also missing Lighthouse Drop Tower and Spinning Cars. Both are family attractions at this park and I saw plenty of adults riding them. -
^ I agree Superman's ops have been fantastic this year. It's usually the park's strongest crew in my opinion. As for Batman, I've noticed that ride having a longer posted queue than Superman on most days which is something I've never seen before. I'm guessing the ops you mentioned could be the reason. Wicked Cyclone is one of the rare coasters that runs its best in cooler temperatures. I thought it was just SFNE messing with the wheels during its first year, but it has consistently run a bit slower in the summer now year after year.

La Ronde Discussion Thread
Canobie Coaster replied to Skyscraper's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I might just have been lucky, but in the last two years I'd say, I've been to La Ronde several times where the lines were fairly manageable even on days where I expected crowds. However it is probable that there will be more people on a Wednesday, especially in the evening, as it's a fireworks day. It is also true that if you go right at the opening you will have to wait in line for a while to get in the park, so unless you're pressed by time or really want to spend a lot of time at the park I would suggest you to wait one or two hours after opening to go. If you have at least a Platinum membership you don't have to wait in that line as you can go through the membership entrance. I learned this when I went in May, and it REALLY helps as you get a good couple hours of no lines before all the regular pass holders and ticket people come in. I'm definitely filing this tip away when I return to the park someday. If it's the same as it was in 2016, I believe you go to Guest Services or the Season Pass office (I forget which one, but it's the building next to the front entrance once you enter the park) to get the food vouchers.
