  1. Elitch is not a Cedar Fair park. It was sold off along with Wild Waves, Darien Lake and a few waterparks by Six Flags in 06 and is now managed by one of the old Six Flags/Premier executives
  2. They are talking about the price of parking not the price of admission and to be fair the fairgrounds does own the lot. I think ed gets to keep all Money made on tickets to the park plus all money spent within the park. Also you math is not right 1.25 of 8 is over 10% it's somewhere around 13 to 15%
  3. THIS! I'm gonna answer this question as honestly and as frank as I can be. The only reason why many of those sites are dead now, is because there wasn't anyone at the helm to keep the alive. Please do not underestimate the amount of work is takes for Elissa and myself, and also our amazing moderating team, to keep this forum active, and full of new discussion every single day. And on top of that, we ALSO have an active Twitter and Facebook feed as well. We have moderators who's sole job is to find news items, posts their findings to the forum, help generate discussion, and keep the forums constantly active. And it's largely because of that is why we have so many equally as awesome members who choose to post their trip reports and comments to Theme Park Review because of how active our community is. You're not going to spend the time and effort to put together a trip report if there isn't an audience. A lot of people have said that "online forums" is what the "dying breed" is, and Facebook and Twitter are taking over, which I do agree to some extent that we have seen a decrease in our forum traffic and an increase in our social media traffic...HOWEVER... you still cannot have a decent, threaded discussion on either Facebook or Twitter so I feel that the online message board still has quite a bit of life left in it! TPR's forums had an average of over 10,000 posts per month in 2012. Personally, I find that to be VERY active, and not a sign of this community or the hobby being a "dying" breed. Hope that answers your question! --Robb While It's sad that forums are supposedly going the way of Blockbuster I think their are many people on here that love this forum and are very thankful to you Robb for putting in the time money and effort you do to keep this Site up and Running and to keep adding new features and sections to the site while many other site owners would have been content building a great site and leaving it as is. I feel like some people on here don't seem to remember that Robb has a job, family and life that does not included this site and expect the world of him when it comes to updates and other news. Just like the rest of us this is just a hobby for Robb he just gets to have more fun and ride more coasters then the rest of us So to you Robb I say a huge thank you for giving so many of us coaster misfits from around the world a place to join and feel like a big community and where we can still have a Intelligent but fun conversation about something that's supposed to be fun in the first place.` Edit: I just realized that I forgot to mention and thank Elissa who is a huge part of this website
  4. Gamestop has a deal of 75 percent of gamecube games and used accessory's. I know it's old but their are still some great games for it and if you get lucky and find some Mario games you can sell them online for much much more. For example Super Smash Bros goes for 29.99 at Gamestop so its less then 8 dollars after the discount and it regularly sells for over 35 on eBay. Gamestop has a really good inventory feature where you can check where a certain item is based on zip code I live in a smaller area so all the good games are sold out but after looking in some of the bigger city's zip codes they have many Mario and other classics still available, Some games are also still on gamestop.com and the discount is applied when you add the game to your cart. Edit: Also is their any other Wii U owners on this forum? I got myself one on launch night and while I have loved it for the two months I've had it , I also have a bad feeling that when the Ps4 and 720 come out the Wii U will not be able to compare and will go the way of the Dreamcast and die a early death. I know most the Wii U games so far are just ports of current gen games so we have yet to see what the system can really do. I think the main thing Nintendo screwed up was the name. Unlike Microsoft and Sony who's systems all have the same name but are just numbered, Nintendo has always had a new and unique name each generation. I have met many people who think that the Wii U is just a add on to the Wii like the Way Kinetic is for the 360. Nintendo said they want the hardcore gamer back and by keeping the name with the Wii brand they are pushing away many before they even try the system. Another issue I see happening is people getting confused over the controller situation. Every Wii U game runs with the Tablet controller about 90 percent of them work with the Wii U Pro controller and about the same amount work with the Wii Remote and Nunchuck Controller and to make it even more confusing a few games such as Black Ops 2 also work with The Classic Controller for the original Wii. Hopefully as time goes on and we move away from the first Wii developers will drop the Wii Remote once and for all and then maybe the Wii U can live as it's own system.
  5. I Have been thinking about this and I wanted to know all of you guys opinions on the subject. But are we Coasters Enthusiast a dying breed, I've been thinking this because it seems that about ten years ago their where many more coaster sites and just about every park had a fan site with a active forum community. Now it seems that most sites are closed or dead and very few new sites are being made. Also most parks fan sites are dead or on life support except a few sites for the major parks. So do you guys just view this as times and sites changing (plus we have TPR which is like a all in one mega site) or do you think kids just are not falling in love with coasters like we all did due to all the other entertainment options they have nowadays. Also something to Consider is many of us that our in our late teens and early 20's grew up when Six Flags was building Huge coasters for each park every year and Coasters where breaking records and pushing new limits year in and year out it was a great time for a kid to fall in love with the Industry. Nowadays with limited coasters being built in the US and most of the new innovation going to China and overseas do you think as many kids will pick up the hobby?
  6. I love how the bloomberg article said it takes two years to build a jet star coaster
  7. Do you ever see a pov or a picture of a coaster and it instantly strikes you as odd looking it could be the design of the coaster itself or the location the coaster is in. For me Excalibur at Valleyfair always stood out as a very odd coaster both it's location in an open field and the ride itself also has a weird layout for being a cousin of Gemini it shares almost no similar features outside of the track and train design. I also just saw a pov of Excalibur at Astroworld and it ironically also had a very cool and unique looking layout and the area around it looked like a overgrown rainforest. So what are some coasters that stand out to you guys?
  8. SFNE has had the same style and model ride for about 4 years now thou it did move from the DC area after 2 years to make way for the mouse coaster. Also I believe that Great Adventure had one of these models for a few years (most likely the same ride moved to SFMM) and then they got the more permanent one seen a few pages back.
  9. Am I the only person who liked Bizzaro better as SROS? On the new trains the view is blocked by the speakers in the row ahead that work about half the time and the park has removed or shut off most of the effects anyways plus the lap bars have much more padding which leads to less airtime.
  10. Now they should buy GL Wildwater Kingdom from Cedar Fair and turn that back into a Seaworld/Aquatica. Hey a kid can dream right
  11. I didnt see the great escape up their they are adding Screaming Eagles a larson flyer ride
  12. You took the words right out of my mouth the first sound I always hear when Getting out of my car at Darien Lake is Viper slowly climbing the lift, Also always liked the Sound of and S&S Tower and the thud of a Boomerang when the chain grabs the car on the second lift it used to freak me out as a kid.
  13. Boulder Dash and Bizzaro SFNE gotta love the fact two of the worlds best coasters are only an hour away from eachother.
  14. At least Wny is not half as bad as Central New York. Here in Utica we are jealous of people that live in Syracuse and Buffalo we look at them as bigger city's that actualy have stuff to do. Oh and the closest park to me is Sylvan Beach Other wise im driving two or more hours to Great Escape, Seabreeze, Dl or SFNE
  15. Your also missing the Ballon Ferris Wheel from Great Escape. It's the parks smaller ferris wheel but it is not a kiddie ride and its mixed in with the rest of the adult rides at the park. Just a warning their is no real sign for the ride at the park and last year they actually took it off the map and it was still running, but this year it was put back on the map.
  16. Hate to be the person who points out the small pointless things but I figured id mention that the Trabant at Great Escape closed before 2011 season and was converted to a seating area. Also the tea cups at Seabreeze opened for the 2011 season not 2012, their new addition this year was the Hydro Racer mat slide, Wish I had read this thread before I went to Seabreeze last week I would have taken a few pics for ya Larry
  17. The slides location seems really out of the way. I know their is a restroom and the path to the picnic shelters over their but ride or slide wise theirs not much close I wonder if their going to just bulid the que line on the side deck of the wavepool. Also the park need to put a dry ride or two back near the comet if you have been to the park you know what im saying when i say the comet is in a very odd location, the whole front of the great escape is just the theme park and then behind that is the water park and then all by itself behind that is the comet. The park was talking about moving the swing ride around where this freefall slide is being built a few years back but they never followed threw. It would really help if their where a few rides to attract more people back by the comet which despite being the parks best ride by far rarely has over a couple train wait.
  18. Does anyone know if anything was said at the q&a about what kind of work was done on the trains for apocalypse? Also I was reading on sfa fans that b&m actually had to replace a decent amount of track on the ride due to some pieces being to worn any truth to this and any idea how much had to be remade?
  19. Does this mean they will not be adding the Dive Bomber to the speed slide as announced in September?
  20. Well CGA is removing rides and still saw an increase in attendance this past season. I think Cedar Fair is milking all the money they can out of WWK. Hopefull he new manangment will finally add something next year as i think the new CEO is more focused on cheaper/family additions and water slides fit perfect into that category.Heck they might be real nice and give CGA plus WWK a new slide next year
  21. Check the caption the park added for the second picture. Seems to me like a hint a xmas event.
  22. For all you west coasters who need a bombay blaster fix come to NY we still got the same ride same name and everything at Water Safari in Old Forge http://www.watersafari.com/attractions/index.cfm?fn=Bombay_Blasters I think the parks may have been designed by the same people as they have aton of similar rides.
  23. That Game is so cool. I really hope they make these for all the parks in the chain. Also five years from now you can play and see all the rides that Six Flags has removed.
  24. I am glad you guys enjoyed the Great Escape. The park gets alot of negativity from both the local general public who think the park is turning too corporate and complain about prices, and the local coaster fanboys who want TGE to be more like the other Six Flags parks with more thrills and less family oriented stuff. I think Robb was spot on when saying the park has a great mix of family and classic rides while having enough thrill rides to remind you its owned by Six Flags. I just wish a little bit more money was invested into the park things went downhill this season a bit such as removing the trabant ride but leaving the platform, and putting tables on it and that scary looking clown head use to be a nice metal statue of an eagle.
