  1. I don't think we should dismiss the Roller Skater right away; after all, URC's faux "press release" esque rumor or whatever it may be has to have come from somewhere. Rumors don't pop out of nowhere. URC posted it first, they should have had some reason for doing so.
  2. While I would much rather see a spinning coaster, the Vekoma Roller Skater is good news. As others have pointed out, there's quite a bit of a 'jump' between kiddie and family. While Roller Skaters are indeed considered kiddie coasters (my 10-year old cousin refused to go on Gadget earlier this year) I still think this is a step in the right direction. ...that being said, I wouldn't have minded a Giga Aquatrax with fire.
  3. Hey, don't bash Key Club. I was a member up to my sophomore year!
  4. Moving back to the topic... Since the issue of a drop tower was brought up, what do you guys think on the chances for one at SFMM in the near future? Maybe not next year, but sometime after that?
  5. ^ We're not bashing you because you're a kid (hey, I'm 17). We're just disagreeing with you because your question came straight out of left field!
  6. I've also heard some rumors about a 2009 Drop Tower addition. I forget where, but I know I've heard them somewhere. Unfortunately, it seems that we are NOT, in fact, getting a drop tower for 2009.
  7. So how's the Goliath repaint coming along? Any pics yet?
  8. Great stuff! And to answer your question, no the canoes aren't upcharge attractions! The boarding area was right next to the Splash Mountain entrance.
  9. It is really a "twister" though? I mean, it has a drop, turn around, floater hill, midcourse, curved drop from midcourse, helix, brake run. I'm not sure that an intese helix makes it a "twister." How many other hypers have you been on? --Robb Not much, I admit. Most of the other hypers I've been on have been Arrow out-and-backs and they've all been average (Desperado and Magnum come to mind). And I do consider Goliath to be a twister coaster. It's definitely not an out-and-back, and not a figure-eight. A twister is the closest it comes to.
  10. I enjoy Goliath quite a bit. Sure, it may not be the best, but I've always enjoyed twister-style roller coasters, and Goliath delivers that in spades. Plus, the last sharp turn to the right gets me, every time.
  11. ^ It has potential as firewood, of course.
  12. ^ Something tells me it's from the restrooms by Space Mountain...
  13. Is it just me, or does this scream "GREAT ESCAPE"? Seriously, it's the perfect fit for that park.
  14. I'll believe it when I see some groundbreaking. The Coney Island fiasco has gone on a bit too long for me to rely on things like this to stoke my hope, but maybe this will prove me wrong.
  15. Whoops, sorry about that. Guess I should have checked.
  16. RCDB has listed Chang as a new coaster for 2010 for Great America: http://rcdb.com/4038.htm?p=21836 Hmmm...
  17. ^ sine graphs are perfect for that sort of thing.
  18. ^ I've done that too! I even change the trains based on what coaster I'm emulating!
  19. ^ I drove past it a couple of months ago. The structure looked fine, but all I got was a quick glance through the window, so obviously I could have missed some things.
  20. Meh, I could take it or leave it. Obviously I have yet to experience a Timberliner, but I'm guessing that they'll be pretty similar to Millennium Flyers, which I found to be pretty much about the same as PTCs in terms of ride quality and tracking. Also, I LOVE how the PTCs look...classy and elegant, like a 50's American Chevy. I have a feeling the new, streamlined Toyota-esque Timberliners won't give me that same feeling.
  21. It probably depends on a lot of factors, weather being the primary cause. South Korea has a LOT of variable weather, so I think wear and tear on the coasters will be higher. Also, it probably changes depending on which seat you take.
  22. Generally, all if not most US parks prohibit bringing your own food. That said, I've never seen it enforced myself...I've brought plenty of stuff into the parks, including sandwiches, thermos bottles, etc. and security always let it go. As others have said, they're looking for weapons and dangerous stuff, not food. They have bigger fish to fry.
  23. writing about roller coasters on my college application essay.
