Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
RAWKIN_coaster38 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Racer yet. As far as I know, all of the wooden coasters that became RMC conversions had Fall "going-away parties" the year or two before the RMC opened. No, it wouldn't necessarily support the B&M 2020 rumor, but maybe along the way we got something wrong or KI has more up their sleeves than we thought? Firehawk or Vortex seem most likely for straight out scrapping a coaster to use the space for something new. Between the two, I wouldn't miss Vortex as much as I'd miss Firehawk, but it does seem more likely that the park would want to get rid of Firehawk given the history of Vortex and the maintenance nightmare that Firehawk must be. Whatever happens, KI does not really have any coasters that everyone hates, so there will surely be some disappointment. However, I'm optimistic about what we'll see in the future! -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

If you don't have early entry then strategy doesn't really matter. I guess I'd probably suggest riding things like Iron Dragon, Rougarou, Magnum and Dragster early... Iron Dragon because there's no Fastlane, Magnum and Rougarou because you have a long wait from the merge point and they'll be walkons at that point and Dragster because it's going to break 100,000 times later in the day. Then again, aside from Dragster nobody really wants to get to Cedar Point and run to one of those rides so just do whatever. I've always wanted to do that on a day when I know I won't have a problem getting on a park's flagships rides. Show up and run to anything other than one of the park's flagship rides, just for the lolz. More points if it's a ride that people don't even like. -
Great TR! Definitely the most literary TR I've read on here, and I loved every minute of it! It's also nice to see someone have a good time at this park. I've been wanting to go here for some time but I've really only heard negative things about it. Hopefully things will continue to improve by the time I actually make it out to Japan.

Flew Frontier to Orlando because A. my friend who was supposed to book my flights for me (promised me she would) kept procrastinating and the better flight increased in price and B. they were really cheap. Got to Orlando no problem and had a great time! Return flight was 7am landing around 9am in Cincy. I had school at 1:15pm and work after that so I figured no problem, I have lots of time. First we get in the plane and wait an ungodly amount of time and clearly there is an issue they aren't telling us. They ask me if I want to move up seats, so I go from 16 middle seat to 5 a row to myself. I'm feeling pretty good for a little while but we're still not going anywhere. Then they tell us there is some minor maintenance issue and they're just waiting for a mechanic. Eventually it is taking so long they say we can go off the plane and get food and use the bathroom, and we can leave our stuff if we want. After a while of waiting out in the lobby again, they tell us to go get our stuff. Not even 20 minutes later they start boarding again, so we go back in. This time, the plane actually backs up and starts driving off. Seems promising, until we turn into some random plane parking lot and just sit there for an ungodly amount of time with no word from the captain. Finally, he tells us that another maintenance light came on and it's more serious, so we have to go back. Again, we sit there for an awful amount of time with no word, and some people leave and they tell them they won't get to board again. So we're like "wtf, are we being held hostage?" Finally, the captain admits to us that the radar is broken and we wouldn't be able to fly if there is any bad weather, which LOL we're flying from Florida to Ohio so we're f*cked. They let us off the plane and I get some food and go back to wait longer and then they let everyone off the plane (a 2nd time). This time, they actually cancel the flight. Next flight is 7pm and there are only 30 seats left. 7am flight is booked so I'm pretty sure if you don't nab one of the 30 seats quick you're f*cked into flying at 7pm tomorrow. Ain't nobody got time for that! I thankfully got the 7pm flight but damn, I am not happy right now. I've learned: 1) don't trust procrastinating friends, you can only trust yourself and 2) I'll think twice before flying Frontier again!

YES! Steel Vengeance actually dethroned El Toro and Skyrush as #1. Have you been to a Haunt event this year yet?

I'd bet that they were looking at Rocky Mountain's I-Box conversions with cautious optimism when Gwazi closed, and by the time they said, "hey, let's do it", Rocky Mountain's backlog was probably filled for years. Perhaps the new ride has already been designed, and they just have to wait another year for Rocky Mountain's manufacturing lines to free up for them. Back in 2015 when I worked for the park (no longer work there, so I feel at liberty to say this) we had an employee Q&A with Mark Rose. We asked about Gwazi and he mentioned RMC as a possibility they were considering. He also talked about how they planned Sheikra and Cheetah Hunt years before those coasters actually opened. So I wouldn't be surprised if they had RMC Gwazi concepts back in 2015 or earlier and just couldn't make it happen until 2020. I also heard there was a copyright for the name "Twisted Tiger" that was a potential for Tigris. Wonder if maybe they'll save that name for Gwazi? Wouldn't be the first (or second, or third) RMC conversion with the name "Twisted [x]." Mark Rose also mentioned he liked the idea of a barrel roll going over the walkway. So... I'm calling it now.

I'm not going to belabor myself posting a lengthy opening night TR since I'm sure TPR will do an even better job, but I can speak from my own experience. It was our first Orlando HHN and we had a great time! Did not splurge for a Fast Pass so we accepted that we'd be waiting a while for everything and not get much done. Met a cool couple during early entry and ended up having a blast together just goofing off during our waits. Yes, we were those people last night. Ended up getting two rides in and 4 (1/2, more on that later) mazes, plus plenty of beer runs! Was definitely glad that Orlando is not a dry event, like Hollywood is. Maze lines topped out around an 60-80 minutes for everything but Stranger Things. Stranger Things was 2+ hours the whole night. So the one bittersweet thing that happened (which maybe you've heard about if you look at their socials): We saved Stranger Things for last partially because we like saving the best for last and partially because it was a 2+ hour wait all night. Got in line for it 30 minutes to close, and they still were letting people get in line up until close. At around 1:30 (after we waited an hour, but others had waited much longer) we start to see them sending everyone home. There were droves of people all confused and frustrated being told that Stranger Things was closed. Basically, we heard the employees were under a certain contract but that per their contract they didn't have to stay past a certain time (which seems kinda weird and confusing, but whatever). So, since employees were leaving they could not keep Stranger Things open. The line to Guest Services was ridiculous. For the most part people were disgruntled and confused, but not belligerent. They ended up giving us signed business cards stating we could have a comp HHN ticket for any night as well as a Stranger Things fast pass. I came all the way from Ohio to visit friends and go to this, so I'm definitely very thankful they gave us this comp. I'm lucky that we have time in the schedule to go again, so it will work out pretty well because we can hit the mazes we missed, including Stranger Things. I'm still very confused why this happened. My experience with theme parks is either A. as long as you get in line before close, they let you do the ride/experience (shout-out to Disney's Flight of Passage crew!) or B. they anticipate the length of wait time and close it off correspondingly before closing, which is frustrating if you thought that A. was going to happen, but at least you can go do something else until park closing. I definitely don't think the park expected this to happen. So now, we'll go again either tonight or Sunday and make sure to do Stranger Things early in the night. Those of you planning to go in the near future (esp if you don't get a fast pass): I'd recommend doing Stranger Things early or at least ask staff if they are going to close off the line early. I'm sure the park is going to make sure this is NOT going to happen again. TL;DR : Unexpected things happen in this hobby, but drink plenty of beer and take a chill pill if they don't work in your favor.

She's not not lying about the whole "using others as a buffer thing, either! But when the scare actors DO get her, it's priceless! Called me out. You should have seen me at Horror Nights last night. It went just like you'd expect it to go. Lots of screaming and jumping and clinging to my friend's backpack except when there was a scary animatronic or puppet, then it was "GO GO GO GO GO!!" Also lots of beer. Plenty of beer. Sounds like you guys have a solid plan. Hmu when you guys think you might be going, I'd love to meet you all and share a few beers! I'm probably going Saturday, September 22 and then Friday the 28 with DILinator, then probably most Fridays after that if I have them off. I know I'll be there Oct 19 with my friend who is visiting from CA. Anyone who is planning on going to Haunt and would like to meet up, lmk! That's how I met DILinator and we're good friends now. -

I've never done it at KI but I believe it's like other CF parks where you can only skip the line for each maze once. That's why if you don't buy Fright Lane, you basically just have to wait until later in the night when everyone has used their skips to have no waits for anything. The mazes aren't as good by then, IMO, since the scareactors are usually over it at that point and you don't get to laugh at everyone else as much (or have others to buffer the number of scares directly posed at you, if you're a scaredy cat like me and don't particularly like it like that), but you can get basically any maze you didn't get done earlier. Or just marathon night Beast, Timbers, and Diamondback. -
The height limit basically tapers down the closer to the lake you get. I heard the height limit by the lake is something like 50 feet. That's why the only rides down near the lake (and that have ever been by the lake) are children's rides and smaller flats. I definitely do agree it is inconvenient to get between the coaster sides of the park. It would be great to have a Von Roll connecting the two. However, then people would bypass a lot of the rest of the park so that would probably work against them in the long run. Every year I'm always amazed at how they've been able to shoehorn more rides into V2 plaza. I always try to spot little plots of land they might use, and they've ended up using all of them. I am by no means a park planner, but it does seem likely in the next 5 years they will have to migrate back if they want to add a new ride without removing something take Kong and Boomerang both, I'm fine with that.

Like everyone else, I can't WAIT until 2020! It can't get more RMC confirmed than if they actually came out and announced the thing. Very exciting. I wonder when we'll start to see progress on it? Tigris looks like a great addition as well. I've only been on Superman so far, but I love it and the Skyrocket II's seem to be pretty popular. It's even better that there's nothing in Florida anything like it. Definitely an improvement from the stupid sploosh ride that was there.

Yes, multiple times. Most noteworthy were El Toro, Skyrush, and recently, Steel Vengeance! Have you ever stayed at a KOA campground?

I love TOP SECRET super-inside info! I love seeing people post TOP SECRET super-inside info that could lose them their job but makes little difference to the rest of us. -
Everything besides the dough! But I could look up a dough recipe if I wanted to (but ordering in is wayy easier ) Have you gotten a haircut in the last two weeks?
-
Yes, but not from a lift hill. We were evac'd from Outlaw Run on the brake run. I'm lucky that I got on it when I did, because I had been grouped in a different row but then saw a single rider in the back and went to ride with him. It was down the rest of the day so if I hadn't done that, I would not have ridden it that day. Do you like Starbucks?

I have multiple "favorites" depending on different categories. Cedar Point is one of them, and yes, I have gotten to visit it at least once every year since moving to Ohio. Have you ever experienced painful airtime?

I just signed up for my first membership (with SFDK, not SFMM, but I figured more people would be able to answer my question here). Just got the basic, since I live pretty far now. I'm wondering if the Diamond Elite benefits work for all Six Flags or just the park you purchased with? It was a little unclear to me on the benefits page. I don't really have a Six Flags home park anymore, but I usually purchase with SFDK because I make it a commitment to visit every year when I visit family, and my visit to other Six Flags parks vary by the year. Also, do you lock in the price when you sign up for a membership? I.e. if I never cancel I will always pay $6.10 even 20 years from now, hypothetically?

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Honestly, I am a hands up all the way person when it comes to airtime-rich coasters, but there are parts of SV that I will sometimes put my arms down for. The snap coming out of the roll before the midcourse, and the snap going into the midcourse (particularly for the back right I believe), can be really painful on the shoulder if you're not paying close mind about bracing. I've hit the person next to me multiple times in those portions and I've snapped my shoulder as well. Also, the closest I've gotten to a marathon of the ride was on our last visit with FL+ on a Tuesday. The last hour of operation we pretty much only had a one train wait, and mostly because we were requesting the back row. Got in about 8 rides. My thighs were aching by the end of the night, and I did end up with a few bruises (though not as many as I thought, given how painful it was just walking back to the cars after that). Not complaining by any means. I love the sh*t out of coasters that beat me up with airtime and bruise my thighs, and I even tend of love rough coasters that other people hate. I can see this being a turnoff for a lot of people, though, and why there will always be the subset of people that prefer Millennium Force. -
Nope! Always had them available wherever I've lived. Do you have a Six Flags Membership?
-
No. Can't remember the last time I went to a county or state fair. I love them, just never seem to make them a priority when they roll around and end up missing them. Do you have a go-to food for hangovers? (or flu, if you don't drink)

I feel like Great America has a pretty solid line-up of "Totally non-offensive, but rides you wouldn't go out of your way for." Such as: Raging Bull X-Flight Goliath Viper Batman Vertical Velocity Superman: Ultimate Flight Demon Whizzer American Eagle Like these are all really GOOD to GREAT coasters. They don't hurt you or make you angry at the world in any way at all... But at the same time... I'm not sure there is a single one on that list that I would make a trip for. And it's sort of too bad because, when I'm at the park, I enjoy every single one of those rides. But none of them are "Stand Out" attractions. Hopefully this new coaster will shake that up a little bit. I agree as well. I had a good time at the park, didn't even get to ride everything on the day I went, but I haven't been particularly motivated to return even though it's one of the "closer" Six Flags parks to my current location. Not sure if Maxx Force will add that "wow" factor that will make me want to keep coming back, but it will definitely inspire me to make a return visit next year!
