Here's hoping the requirements aren't too steep so that I have a chance at running it on my system. If anything I think my integrated video card would probably be the only hang up.....especially if NL2 involves pixel shaders. Whatever happened to NL Fairground? I recall seeing something about it on their main page but can't recall where it was.Did Ole abandon that project at all? -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

That's my feeling as well. They could start by placing the station area next to FOF & then running the coaster in a simple out & back circuit paralell to Rebel Yell's right hand track, only problem with that idea however is working around the waterpark. Another idea in keeping with running a potential hyper through OV is to start out on the hypersonic pad,run the outbound leg over BRT,remove Shockwave & run the return leg through it's footprint with an AC style dive to the right to bypass the carousel on it's way back to the station but out of these two suggestions I think the former, rather than the latter will be the most likely outcome....that is if the 2010 project turns out to be a hyper of course. Now from what I hear Intamin may be doing the project & not B&M,which makes sense as they can do a steep cable lift (ala MF @ CP) which would really turn out to be a space saver given the limited area they have to work with. -
Unfortunately selling the company will do no good as the new buyer will just inherit the debt that the current ownership inherited when they bought(more like took over) the chain from Premiere parks inc. I really believe that we'll see a LOT of non essential properties(ie those that aren't being heavily invested in by the company) either end up sold to other park chains,or simply shut down like GL was within the coming year.

Thanks,I went ahead & purchased the full version last night & downloaded the upgrade for v.7.1 this morning. I'll check around on some of the sites mentioned & see if I can find any good tutorials for working with the editor,as well as some good downloads...with a focus on recreations. -

Hey guys I'm considering buying the full version of NL but have a few questions first. 1. If I purchase the full version does it include the latest version # (version 7.1) in the download or do I get the base version first while waiting for the fully updated version to be activated? 2.I read on their site that there are 18 tracks available that come with the latest version, which is good for me as I totally stunk at being able to use the editor that came with the 1.0 demo that was first released way back in the fall of 01. 3.Speaking of the editor, have any new changes been made to it in the latest version that make it any easier to use? Hyper rails used an editor that showed you the track in real time as you were making adjustments to it during the design process, while the demo version of the NL 1.0 editor only showed the centerline making it next to impossible to really make any transitions from uphill to downhill. -

All KD needs to complete their lineup is a B&M invert (V:TBC sucks imho),a hyper & a shuttle coaster that's go along nicely with what they already have. Other than that they just need to beef up their flat ride arsenal a bit more with a few more inverting flats as both berserker & the crypt are too uncomfortable for my liking. -
Drop Tower Question
KDCOASTERFAN replied to Angry_Gumball's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
On the 2nd gen models each section has it's own mini panel with 3 buttons/indicators.One is for restraint release, the other is the aforementioned weight sensor & the third is the "section ready" button, which has to be pushed after the ops have checked & cleared the car that is running on that section of the tower. I wonder if a weight imbalance may have contributed to the accident at SFKK last season? It could always be a contributing factor after all. -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
KDCOASTERFAN replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It will still be standing. I hope I'm pretty sure KD will survive but I don't think the same can easily be said for their neighbor up north in Largo MD. -
CGA's invertigo has been down for a few weeks(there's a thread somewhere about it) but they got it running recently but KI's has been running well from what I've read on most of the forums. It's not just TF:TFS that's had problems lately but even once reliable rides like WO seem to be having problems from what I've read on a few sites(including this one) so it's definitely a budgetary issue that is at least contributing to the problems. This season has been really bad in that regard, when Wild One is down for the entire day during a couple of my visits you know something is going awfully wrong. I agree as WO is one of the more reliable coasters in the park.

Given the construction timelines for Behemoth & Diamondback I'm thinking pretty much the same thing that we'll be seeing site clearing in the early to mid season of 09 with parts arriving during the later part of the summer season. KD was originally slated to get one of the 2nd gen vekoma flyers for 2001 but after Stealth turned out to be such a disaster at CGA Paramount opted out of their exclusive contract for the rides & thus SFA ended up getting it in place of the standup coaster that they had already gotten approval for(along with a handful of other rides that have since never been built) back in 1999.In it's place KD got HSXLC,which was supposed to go to CGA & as we've seen proved to be every bit as lousy as the flyer would've been for the park. -
I don't know about the B&M flyers but on the two vekoma flyers with dual load stations the exit ramp is in the middle of the platform so that you load with the gates/queue line being on the outer walls of the station house just like any other coaster. The way Batwing's queue is designed is that just as you approach the staircase to go into station one the line splits to go underground to get under the dispatch/switch track & then emerges on the other side with a staircase leading into station 2 & on days when they're not using both stations(which is almost all the time go figure) they simply have that section of the queue blocked off with a rope or trashcan to prevent people from entering that side. I suspect that Manta will probably have a similar system in place to handle both stations effectively & that, unlike the SF parks they'll actually make use of both stations on a regular basis.

What is the best floorless?
KDCOASTERFAN replied to ddaver177's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So far Dominator is the only floorless I've had the chance to experience but KD did an excellent job of rehabbing the ride for it's debut here in Va. After seeing a video of the ride in it's last season or two in Ohio I couldn't believe how rough the 2nd half appeared to be but, thankfully it was smooth as glass when I rode it back in july & august. -

Well it's not like there's a rule in effect that specifically states that if one park has a specific style of coaster then other nearby parks in the area cannot have one, otherwise SFGRADV would certainly be in trouble for adding Nitro just one year after SFA added Superman. As long as they design the layout to be totally original & unique compared to the other two hypers in the region then from a marketing standpoint they'll see an ROI on the project....don't forget both KD & SFA feature Premier LIM coasters that are EXACTLY the same save for the fact that one of them is enclosed while the other is not & yet people visiting both parks still ride them. Redfoot: I recall seeing that ad for Grizzly during it's opening year too,of course I wasn't into coasterse back then so I couldn't readily ID the ride depicted in the ad but it probably was KI's Beast.I so wish they'd replay some of those classic ads in the park's don't you? -

If anything they can fit an out & back hyper in the area south of Rebel Yell & waterworks with the station/entry plaza over by FOF. Now if the park has plans to add a hyper be it an Intamin(as rumors now seem to indicate) or a B&M then I'm sure they have a rough idea of where in the park they want or can place it....for now we just have to get throug h09 & see just where in the park our "new" toys from GL will be located before we really start focusing on possibilities for 2010. -
What are some loud rides and coasters?
KDCOASTERFAN replied to JFrombaugh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yes the memories. In the station it was okay to talk for the time being after it launched but up and down the halls of the que's..sheesh..."Bbbvvvrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr VOOOOOOOOOSHHHH" is all you could hear. It was pretty darn bad at times. Still a nice ride that will be missed. Being honest also here, Hyper Sonic's launch was okay by me noise wise but those dang brakes..car crash? Nahh I'd say skate board trash can bowling with metal and tin trash cans. Its got to be the only coaster I've seen people hold thier ears for the brakes while being ON ride. Yep HSXLC had the LOUDEST braking system of any coaster I've ever ridden & the launch was pretty loud as well. Dominator is loud as hell & it's just impossible to hold a conversation with anyone in the queue while a train is running.I can now understand just why KD chose to use a fully enclosed station when putting up the ride. -
New Vekoma Flyer in China 2008

Wasn't a Chinese park supposed to get one of these? -

Well it looks like SFA will be losing a coaster in the next year or two as,according to screamscape the park has put Two Face up for sale on the Ital used rides website. It's bad enough that there were only seven adult coasters to ride in the park vs KD's massive collection(only two of which are junior/kiddie models) but now it's gonna be even worse with one less coaster to ride.My guess is that, much like HSXLC at KD the ride will simply be SBNO until they either find a buyer for it or pull it off the market & tear it down themselves. I tend to think that the ride fell victim to poor maintenance on the part of SFI rather than a poor design on Vekoma's part as it worked rather well the first few years of operation & here it is 8 years later & the ride isnow unfit,or currently unsafe to operate.
-
They never had a problem with it when they upgraded the Premiere LIM coasters(JJ/Poltergiest etc.) with lap bars 7 years ago now did they? so the same can be said for this modification as well. So what if SFNE goes two seasons without a major new ride? I know of a certain MD. park that has to wait a good FIVE years between new ride installations.
-
I couldn't agree more, here it is going on ten years after the "flagging" & the park is MUCH worse off than it was during the AW era.SFI won't sell the park to another company because,if they did said company would turn the place around & give SFGRADV some competition & Snyder knows it...otherwise the place would've been sold at the first possible opportunity along with DL & EG.

I dunno about the name but I actually think that CF did a decent job(for once) instead of using the old standby of "boomerang" or worse "headspin".
