I'm not a regular but I live about an hour from the park so it's not that hard for me to make a couple visits per year. I'd actually be quite pleased. It's exactly what SFA needs. GASM wouldn't cost a lot to build and maintain (Arrows are pretty reliable), it's really marketable (giant looping coaster!), and SFA doesn't have a standard Sit Down Looping coaster. Although Tony Hawk's Big Spin would be a decent choice as well, GASM is better because they don't have to spend millions to have something brand-new manufactured and constructed. GASM just has to be shipped, painted, and rebuilt (which would be cheaper than a new coaster and it makes it much easier since GASM's been built before so they know what to do/not to do construction-wise) Uhh remember what happened with ultra twister Brad? That ride was working fine at SFAW & was sent to SFA but somehow they conveniently "damaged" it beyond repair by the time it arrived at the park & has been sitting in a field behind Batwing for 4 years now.I'd suspect though that GASM will end up just like shockwave did:recycled into about a million beer cans since there's a reason why GRADV is removing it after all when if the rumors of chang going there are true then they'd have plenty of other places in that park to put it.

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
KDCOASTERFAN replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Last time I rode Dominator a couple weeks ago I was in row 3 IIRC & it was rattling like crazy during the 2nd half following the MCBR....havn't had a chance yet this season to get a front row ride as the wait for the front is always so darn long. -
I prefer the ride outside too. I enjoy Joker's Jinx much more than the flight of fears. Not to mention no block trims, so you fly through the second half. The problem is, the park doesn't get enough traffic to make it worth investing a lot of money into. It doesn't make sense to put a 20 million dollar beemer in a park thats never busy. It almost seems like SF is just giving up with trying to compete with KD and Busch. And WHY are poeple avoiding SFA in favor of KD & BGW? it's because KD & BGW ACTUALLY GET NEW RIDES instead of just removing them one after another,I had hopes for the park from 98 to 2007 & bought a pass every year but after they made the decision to install yet ANOTHER waterslide (which they didn't really need) over installing a major ride that was needed in the ride side of the park I gave up & started going to KD instead. All SFI ever cares about are GRAM,MM,OT & GRADV at the expense of the other parks which is WHY they've lost money & will continue to loose even more until they figure out that it takes more than just major investments in four parks when you've got a chain consisting of 19 parks at the present time. The only attempt made( & I use the term lightly here) at getting a ride installed in the ride park was when UT was sent here, funny thing though that it was shipped to SFA from SFAW BROKEN & unrepairable, which I believe was intentionally done since they've wanted the park to fail. The only way for the park to s urvive is for SF to sell it & for it to go back to it's pre-SF roots as a smaller local amusement park rather than remain in the hands of those in charge of it now because sooner or later they WILL probably just close it to gain access to the assets for redistribution to their big 4 spoiled parks when they no longer can afford to purchase brand new rides for them.

I had that happen to me back when HR first opened,it was on one of the cyclone slides IIRC & it took me forever to get down that thing as I kept getting stuck mainly in the curves but it was most likely due to a lack in water pressure. -
Perhaps the reason why GASM is still running is because there currently are no plans to remove it just to replace it with another ride in 2011 & never were? This whole rumor about Chang being relocated there is just a fanboy's wish & isn't going to happen at the present time. Keep in mind that Shapiro made the decision to move the ride to SFGRAM,but now that he's out & Webber is in those plans have obviously been scrapped & we don't know where the ride is going right now....personally I think it should be returned to KK.

The MCBR functions as a block so it can't just be turned off. -
True but I still think Chang should go to SFA because they don't have a B&M at least i'm pretty sure SFA doesn't have one They were supposed to install a standup in 01 but KD's cancellation of the flyer due to paramounts voiding the exclusivity contract with vekoma nixxed it as SFA took the ride while KD got hypersonic, which was supposed to go to CGA with them getting a mouse instead that year.X-flight was supposed to go to KI(ironically it did some 6 years later) but we all know why paramount voided the contract....due to stealth's failure when it was at CGA. SFGRADV does not need another coaster at the present time, since 01 they've recieved nitro,SUF,KK,ET &TDK while in that same time SFA has recieved NO coasters period & is the only park in the chain(since AW is gone that doesn't count) since 01 to have gone without a coaster installation when they clearly need one what with KD opening their 25 million dollar coaster this year & with Webber at the helm now that might possibly happen but we won't know for sure either way until something does happen.

I think I can attest to that as I had an extremely rough ride(ranking up there with hurler rough) riding in orange train car 2,row 1 last weekend....I so wanted a spot near the front on yellow train but alas that wasn't to be what with the way the lines were at the time. -

Rebel yell was running both north & south sides on my trip last weekend. I've noticed the "rattle" on Dominator big time on the last trip & while not a headbanger it's definitely starting to loose that B&M smoothness that it has had in the past. -

The park was starting to improve & had a master plan for new attractions that were to be built before Burke got it into his idiotic head to go on a "let's spoil SFMM,SFGRADV,SFGRAM & SFOT rotten at the expense of our other parks" spree that put the chain into bankruptcy. If anything Chang should be returned to KK as it was never built by SFI/Premiere parks management but Ed Hart's management for the 97 season, which means that the design work for the ride probably started in 96 when Premiere didn't even own/manage the facility at the time & I think that's what may be happening since SFGRAM suddenly cancelled the ride when they'd already begun shipping it there....keep in mind SFI & the KSFB are in a dispute as to ownership of the rides remaining on the KK site & are claiming that SFI had no legal rights to remove the coaster when they terminated their lease.

Josh you could try looking at local Giant food stores in the area for discount gift cards that are good for admission...I used to get them back in the days before I purchased my KD season passes. -

So they're still having problems with the lift again? Those problems cost us a night ride yesterday. It was hot as an oven at the park yesterday but that didn't seem to stop the crowds from showing up as the park was pretty busy all day,I just couldn't believe my luck when I ran into a couple of friends from my area over at anaconda yesterday evening. -
I really don't think SFA needs another mega-coaster right now. They'd be better off with a Tony Hawk clone that Chang. I'd much rather see Chang go to SFSTL. SFA wouldn't even be lucky enough to get a THBS clone....they got skipped when SF was handing them out left & right under Shapiro's watch after all. If anything they deserve the ride far more than any park in the chain right now as they've gone a decade with NO new coasters so far,all they've gotten since batwing was one water ride, three waterpark slides,a new kiddie section(composed mostly of rides from elsewhere in the park) & have lost one coaster & several flats while SFGRADV,along with MM & GRAM have been spoiled rotten since the final few years of Burke's reign...which is what led in part to the bankruptcy to begin with. With Webber in charge perhaps he'll follow the mold used with the former PP chain of adding family ride one year with thrill rides the next?SFA got kidde/family rides in 10 so 2011 should be their year for a much needed thrill ride, granted it'd take more than just a new ride alone to get me to return there but that would be a good start.

I went down there a couple weekends ago & despite the heat(almost passed out in Shockwave's queue) the park was pretty busy.I'll be heading down there again this weekend & I hope that the new restraints are on both trains by then. -

Any ideas on what we may see in 2011? Was reading on kdfansite that some of the folks from GCI were seen in the park recently so could we be looking at a new woodie within the next couple of seasons? If not I'd like some new trains for hurler to see if that'll help make the ride more tolerable granted I think the ride's days are numbered seeing as nobody rides it. -
Sems that unlike Shapiro who didn't cancel planned rides when he took over from Burke Webber may not be following that mold....then again since Webber spent years helping KD expand during his tenure he probably knows that SFA needs some major help after I305 was installed this year. Not saying that Chang could be headed east but it's always a possibility as SFA is the ONLY park in the chain that hasn't installed a new coaster within the past decade.Could also be possible that the owners of KK want the ride back as it was never SFI's asset to redistribute to begin with seeing as it was installed the year prior to the Premiere parks/SFI merger of 1998.

Now if GRADV is having problems staffing their rides,be it flats or coasters then WHY on earth has SFI been making such foolish mistakes as installing more rides in a park that can't even staff the current rides they have? Edit: It's already been confirmed that Chang is going to SFGRAM as they've already gotten the permits for it according to the SFGRAM thread so I don't have a clue where this crap got started of it going to SFGRADV..

This thread has started to get boring just because of the endless argument over the trims....I rode twice this weekend & didn't notice any real difference on the ride save for the loss of air on the 150 foot hill. The park is gonna run the ride with the trims so we may as well stop complaining & get used to it,if you don't like the trims then don't ride the coaster how difficult is that? -

Went to the park yesterday & got in two laps on I305 & found that the trims actually make the ride more bearable IMO....at least I was able to keep my hands up for most of the ride for once. -

Don't forget that it's been hot as hades around here lately & that is definitely having an impact on the wheels....now if the ride is going as slow as some reports claim then come fall with it's cooler temps we may have a situation where the ride becomes prone to valleying so I'm hoping that they'll remove the trims by then but am very doubtful that such will happen.
