TPR Members Working At Parks
ScubaSteve442 replied to BrownStreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yup. I work at a B&M coaster this year. Far better than an Intamin/PTC woodie. I no longer feel like if I forget something that all my riders are gonna die. -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
ScubaSteve442 replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Raging Bull, Sunday, 8 times in a row without getting up except to change rows. -
I heard some explanation of what happened, sadly I cannot share it, but if it is accurate, it's bad news for SFI, particularly the ops and maintenance, as well as bad for Intamin. And I finally understand how this happened. I was making a single, faulty supposition: that there is a pulley on the part of the ride that pulls the cars to the top, and stays up there when the car is dropped. There is not, and that, combined with one other item of information makes it all clear to me that this accident could have been prevented in a number of ways.

CP Platinium pass holders Benefits
ScubaSteve442 replied to jpdupuis's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not mentioned: the Platinum Pass also gives free parking across the chain. That was all the benefit I needed to justify the upgraded pass. This stuff is just the icing on the cake. -
Isn't the one at Nagashima SpaLand a flywheel model, while 6FKK's is a weight drop model? I guess that would have more effect on acceleration forces than positive g's though... I wonder if 6FKK's GL being relocated and cobbled together from other parts has an effect on the difference in g-force readings?

What is your next park?

6FFT - I'm excited 'cuz I've never been to Tejas! -
My ex-wife claims to have waited about 5-6 hours for Goliath (Magic Mountain) on the ride's opening weekend. At 1am, when the ride broke down, everyone still in line was sent home. The next time she went with me, we waited 2+ hours. She said the ride was good, but certainly not worth waiting in line for 8 hours.

I was wondering if the ride operator hit the E-stop, or was there something in the ride system that stopped the ride automatically when the structural failure occured. I'm thinking E-stop, as the lights went out, and an E-stop typically cuts all power. If that's the case (Op hit E-stop), then he should be commended for such a rapid reaction, as the riders would have been more seriously hurt if the ride continued to operate with only one arm attatched to the ride gondola.

Nick Universe Grand Opening PTR
ScubaSteve442 replied to timberskara's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I saw you and your group there, but I didn't know you were on here. It was a really nice opening day, even though it was a little crowded, the ops were fantastic and waits weren't too bad. -

My dad's company was bought out this way, too. The original management was kept on until the new owners got a grasp on the operation of the company. Then, they installed their own management. Soon after that they shut the place down and moved the operation to Mexico. I realize a park can't be moved in it's entirety, but just because the Spackman family is remaining to manage the park, doesn't mean it can't go horribly wrong in the future. -

^^Sort of. The rail isn't joined yet in the 5:40 shot. It's 6:21 and they are still tightening bolts on that final connection. It looks like the last connection was off an inch or so, (you can see the ends aren't flush) and they had to convince everything to line up enough that they could bolt it together. I think they had to use a come-along to pull them into alignment or something. The crane was outside the footprint for part of the loop. They'll drive it back out under the first drop.

Suggestions for 500th coaster?
ScubaSteve442 replied to texcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
What is the deal with people who like riding crappy coasters for milestones? Is there a reason, or just a bad series of luck?
