Which coasters are the "most fun" to ride?
Nitro1118 replied to A.J.'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I mean, that's fair. I put Phoenix above El Toro because of the fun factor. El Toro is certainly the best coaster I've ever ridden, but Phoenix is my favorite. I will never get when peeps say that. Last time I checked, favorite, and best are synonyms. I get it. When it comes to coasters, there are two general categories a good coaster will fall into...thrilling or fun. Now, of course a ride could be fun because it is thrilling, so things can get muddy in this discussion. However, after rides 150 coasters over the past 16 years (sincd I was 9), I got pretty good grasp of the distinction when I ride a coaster. A fun coaster will have me smiling ear to ear without being a very intense or stimulating experience...a thrilling coaster will get my adrenaline pumping and be an overall intense ride experience. That is my best explanation, anyway Technically a thrilling coaster like El Toro is still fun. I know, I mentioned that. I look at it like a Venn diagram...there are two extremes with lots of overlap. -

Phoenix and Cornvall Express immediately come to my mind. Both airtime machines that aren't iverwhelming yet still untense and very fun. -
Big Surprises on Coasters
Nitro1118 replied to gerstlaueringvar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
-El Toro's RT crossover hill. The first time I rode it in 2006 it was incredibly shocking even after reading early reviews from media day. What an awesome, jarring "explosion" of airtime I like to call it. It is also the only part of the ride that ai feel is best experienced in the front row. -Skyrush's first drop in the back row. Again, like Toro, I rode it only a week after media day, so it was unexpected. Going down the drop initially felt, "Yep, this is standard awesome Intamin ejector!" Then, BAM!!! It feels like the train hit the Nos button, and you get one of the craziest "ripping" sensation of any airtime moment I've ever had. Superman: The Ride's 3rd camelback. My favorite single airtime hill in the world. Almost as strong as El Toro's RT hill, but much more sustained. Amazingly fun, somewhat jarring hill. -Intamin strata launches. Even after dozens of rides on TTD and KK over the years, those launches still get me every single time. -Wicked Cyclone's double reverse banked hill. It is one of the best lat/airtime combos in the world. Ejector airtime mixed with severe side-to-side lats. -Raptor's snap into the brakerun. This was not a pleasant surprise. -Alpengeist's cobra roll. The most snappy of any B&M inversion I've ever experienced. -
If and when a new, custom coaster is built at Dorney (I know, unlikely) , where do you guys think it will be? I know Dorney is landlocked a bit, which is why I'm asking the question. A remodel of the front gate is a possibility due to CF's frontgate additions at a number of their parks, but with Talon and the waterpark there I don't know how hot they are on that idea. Also, do you guys feel that the right coaster with proper marketing will significantly boost attendance and lines in the dry park? I know that Dorney is a blackhole of lines, but they haven't received a big new coaster that could seriously compete with GAdv and Hershey since Talon (and that might be a stretch...Steel Force was probably their biggest horse in those races). So, would a coaster the magnitude of Valravn or Fury 325 do the trick? I heard there is a height limit for the park so maybe not a ride of their size, but SOMETHING that will create serious buzz.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

It's been 12 years since my lone ride on it, and while I think my opinion on it was swayed due to the hour plus wait for it, I also found myself neutral on it, possibly overrated as well. It has a very nice layout, but the forces aren't stronger than some of the other elite inverts, it isn't the tallest or fastest inverts, and it doesn't have any unique elements to make it stand out. I prefer Alpenfeist (due to sizs, forces and the snappiest cobra roll in existence), Talon (due to very low-to-ground 2nd half and some airtime which is rare for an inverted coaster), and Montu (a tad overrated like Raptor, but more forceful Nd I love the batwing element). Nontheless, it's a very good ride which I'm sure I'd like even better if I rode it in a better mood. -
Most Intense Coaster You've Been On?
Nitro1118 replied to canadianparkfan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Agreed. The first few hills offer surprising airtime, and then the ride just goes bat$hit crazy with airtime, laterals and speed. Not onlt does it continue its intensity, it actual gets more forceful and out of control the entire journey. Just an insane ride. For intensity per second, TTD and KK top my list. The most pure adrenaline rushes out there IMO. However, it's just a very quick dose. -

Very excited, although granting permission is only half the battle. Driving past Xanadu in Nj for over a decade is proof of that (albeit it's a different field of investment), along with other amusement-related products that either never got off the ground, stopped mid-construction, stayed idle for years or flopped hard. That's not to be a debbie-downer, but HUGE investments like this come with many obstacles. Hopefully they fulfill their vision because this is a VERY cool-looking project. -
Most Intense B&M!
Nitro1118 replied to Beate's Freak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Batman clones are definitely number 1. Alpengeist, Montu, Kumba, Raptor, Hulk and Green Lantern are also up there for me. Even the strongest sitdown/floorless/standup Beemers just don't quite match the power of the old school inverts. -
My friend is a member of Screamscape... That's funny, because I am the one who took the pics and I don't know you. Here is the rest of the gallery from the trip. https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOwRKU6amGMy8wEDuNY3_GFLZSf26wF-5sIM1DkaM05ThvnEHxw3s_1t0O0c5irMA?key=NlhnTUl4bE4xUi1JaktHN0l0QS1ITG4zOGVONW1n Oh boy that's gold, hahaha.

Green Lantern isn't that bad...make sure the seat locks while kneeling so you can stand up with the seat making no body contact. To prevent headbanging, just lean forward or force your head to just one side of the restraint. The headbanging on GL isn't so bad that one of those techniques won't work pretty well.

El Toro- Make the turnaround either a normal overbanked turn (never liked MF's, but S:TR's is surprisingly forceful), or a turnaround/drop mix like on Fury 325 and Lightning Rod's last major element. As it is, Toro's tyrnaroubd is forceless and is the only part of the ride that has gotten quite rough in some seats. Wicked Cyclone-Make it a bit taller, replace the 270 degree stall with a big canelback, and replace the first zero g roll with a 270 degree stall.

My money is the prototype will go to GAdv in Chiller's old spot. The concept art looks very similar to the animation of the dueling launched coasters in the attractions survey the park sent out a couple months ago. Initially, the monorail-looking track looked to be the cause of crappy animation, but now it makes a lot more sense. The ride type and layout would be a perfect fit for Old Country/Movietown, and out of all SF parks I'd say it is the most likeky to be granted the prototype.

Sort reminds me of WC's double reverse hill. While it is a different element, it should give a similar mix of laterals/ejector, ehich was probably the most intense element on WC. This coaster is looking better and better! Honestly, it would not surprise me if it ends up being towards the upper echelon of RMC's. It has decent length, some of RMC's best elements, a camelback which could offer the best sustained airtime moment of any RMC, and it will also throw in some unique elements as well. As long as the pacing is on point, Storm Chaser should be one helluva ride!!

New Wanda Parks in China.
Nitro1118 replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The GCI looks miles better in the POV than it does in pictures. The pacing is extremely impressive from start to finish and has a bunch of airtimee and strong lateral opportunities. The Intamin looks plain ugly and unappealing. I'm sure that, like the GCI, that the POV will look a lot better than what the pics show, but still...eww. -
Harry from GAH posted a ton of pics on his website, which you can find here: http://www.greatadventurehistory.com/GATrips_Winter_2015_11_18.htm The park looks beautiful!!! I really wish they take note and get decide to add permanent lighting around the park. What they did with the buildings on Main St is a great example of how simple lighting really adds to the atmosphere and appeal to the park's aesthetics. Can't wait for next week! Oh...and low and behold...the great legend of Skull Mountain!!#

Even though it's not a color combo that will "pop," I do really like the colors. They are easy on the eyes and will look great on the midway. -
In person, the Big Wheel actually looked nice. While my opinion differs from the majority, I personally prefer old fashioned lighting to blinding LED's lights on ferris wheels. Especially being next to the very bright Sky Screamer, I feel all the Big Wheel needs is fixing the broken bulbs as opposed to redoing the system.

SFGAm. Haven't been there in 9 years, but my visit in 2006 was awesome. For a SF park it was clean, had very solid theming, lots of shaded areas, great selection of coasters, was bigger than I expected, and their HH blew GAdv's out of the water. As much as I love GAdv as my homepark, SFGAm was easily the best SF park I've been to. In fact, I find that SF's poor reputation is really over-stated in general, and have had great times at all SF parks I've been to.
