Ai miss GASM, as well. While I definitely prefer GL, GASM gave the lineup more variety since we are overloaded with B&M's. On goods days in the right seats, GASM was a very solid ride. Always really liked the vertical loops and consecutive corkscrews. Everything else was garbage. Speaking of torn down coasters, I miss this coaster literally every time I visit the park: *Courtesy of East Coast Coasters

Kraken's my favorite floorless, and one of my favorite B&M's. First drop provides nice little airtime in back, best zero g roll I've experienced, and it has one of the better 2nd halves of any B&M looper I've ridden. Assuming it gives the same ride as pre-transformation, I still give Hulk the best coaster in Orlando title; though

Even if the T-bar law is true, there is no reason they couldn't have added El Toro's U-bars. The T-bar design DID have a small effect on the accident (allowing him to slip laterally out of the train), however the real issue was no sensor alerting the staff he was too large to ride. That is why in 10 years of operation a ride like El Toro, a slightly more extreme ride than Superman, has never had an accident. The amount of walk of shames can get a little ridiculous, but it allows Toro to use very minimal restraints in a safe manner. I also never understood how making the lap bar bulkier made it more safe. I would understand if it covered a greater area of the lap like the B&M clamshell does, but the point of contact is actually smaller on the new trains than the old trains with T-bars...hence why they are quite painful (same issue that Skyrush has, just to a lesser degree).

I LOVE this pic!! Really shows the massive height difference of the two rides, and an interesting contrast of a wooden support structure versus the nearly non-existent Skyrush support structure. Really cool shot. I really gotta get back out to Hershey next year to give Skyrush a second chance. I've been there 3x, the last being 2 weeks after Skyrush opened. Due to time constraints and 3 hour storm delay, I only got one ride on ir, and wasn't in the best mood to give it a fair shot. The restraints bothered me, and because I didn't anticipate the combo of forces plus the openess of the train, I was fighting to keep myself upright nearly half the ride. Now that I know how to ride it, I really wanna give it another go. It should be up there on my list with Toro/Wicked Cyclone/SFNE Superman/Voyage, but it might not even be in my top 10.

Seriously though, was anybody really expecting otherwise? This type of train only has one other kind of restraint, right? The restraints it used to have? The ones it had when someone got flung from the train? Why did anyone think they'd be going back to those? After the accident, it used the same lap bar for 5 years (until the Bizarro transformation), they just added the side bars and weird ankle restraints. All we want is a smaller lap bar that hits closer to the lap, so it's less bulky and more comfortable.

Best Coaster Layout
Nitro1118 replied to DarienLaker's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Superman at Six Flags New England has the perfect layout. 200ft drop, big camelback with strong floater/light ejector, overbanked turn taken with good speed and positive g's, 2 ejector filled medium-sized canelbacks, 2 s-curves with ejector and laterals, 2 helices with positive g's, and 2 ejector filled bunny hops. Basically, literally everything you could want from a hyper coaster layout. -

You're better off looking at Great White (EDIT: AND Nor'Easter itself), which costed five and a half million dollars in 1996, as a comparison because it was built around the piers and on the beach as opposed to actual terrain. That's -almost- eight and a half in 2015 adjusted for inflation. So, the Nor'Easter renovation is basically half a decent coaster. Also, what do you expect them to do? If they just go, "whelp, we'll leave it" it'll just make a half-decent-to-mediocre coaster even worse. If they remove it, what are they going to replace it with? To put another signature coaster in that space they either have to spend even more precious time and resources designing around the existing water slides and Zoom Phloom, OR build a new coaster and renovate the water park all at once. Yes, I expect them to either bury it 6ft or keep it running until they make that decision. Essentially rebuilding a crappy coaster that has never been popular is the worst decision they could have made with those $4M. If all they got is $4M to work with at the moment, *I* would have left it in its current state until they could have put something new and exciting in its footprint. Whether that would be a coaster or a significant waterpark expansion, it doesn't matter...it'd be the wisest decision. -

I agree with boldikus. If we are talking even $1M, I'd be on board with the renovation. However, $4M is a very hefty pricetag for a 20 year-old ride that sucks and was never popular to begin with. And for a park as small as Morey's, $4M is a pretty huge investment that could have netted the a small GCI wooden coaster. For $6M, they could have afforded a coaster the size of Ravine Flyer II by either the GG or GCI. It only takes a couple million to net a top 10 wooden coaster, and I feel we will now have to wait at least 3-4 years until Morey's is capable of making this kind of investment again. -
...which I acknowledged in my post. I said in the first paragraph they removed the audio (they did NOT mention the headrests, though) and then in the edit I mentioned the restraints will be the same. Kyle specifically said the speakers had been removed from the trains. Speakers don't necessarily equal headrests...they could easily still keep the headrests on, whether simply removing the speakers or adding completely new headrests. I am inclined to believe they will be removed, but they were very vague, leaving room for interpretation.

So, some information was just revealed about the Superman transformation. Silver trains with 3D Superman logo, rethemed cutouts, broken concrete/lightpost by 2nd tunnel to mimic Superman bursting out of ground, and no more on-board audio. They did not release any info about whether headrests would be removed or restraints remodeled, but did say they had more surprises up their sleeves for the upcoming weeks leading to opening day. Below is two photos from the presentation (courtesy of SFNE Online). Edit- Someone on SFNE Online said during the presentation they mentioned the restraints would be exactly the same

I am very glad that with the new I-Box coasters they are developing the track with no paint in the spot where the wheels will run. For some reason the paint rubbing off on the wheels caused a lot of issues with previous installations, especially WC, so it's nice they've fixed it. It is weird that it looks like they did the stripping manually, though, as the strips seems uneven around the edges. Either way, it should be running at top condition from the start.

100% correct. He's got no problem making wild, unsubstantiated claims and will argue to death with actually credible people about how he's "right". He's got no problem posting leaked footage early on his crappy FB page for the sake of being first. He's the British tabloid of coaster news. Read what he says for entertainment purposes only. I can't think of a stronger case of overcompensation. In ACTUAL news, Flyin' Phil posted photos from his latest flight this weekend, including four of SFGAdv. They give a nice overhead view of the construction but unfortunately don't clear up this dumb Chiller station debate. Yeah I've been arguing with him over at GAH, poking holes in his arguments, but it's futile. He's created some SERIOUS inner-conflict for me...I want an RMC SO bad at GAdv, but it's to the point where I hope we don't get one just to shut him up and prove him wrong. And if we do get one it'll be bittersweet as he will never stop bragging about his prediction, probably all the way to inscribing "Railer-THE great TRex predictor" on his tombstone. It's a sad, sad world when one should be torn about wanting an RMC to come to his homepark

Woah...why did Intamin switch to Premier/B&M style track for this ride. I understand switching it up to the double-spine, but switch it up to this style, on this particular ride? Very strange, and kinda disappointing since my favorite track types are the box and double-spine types. -
I don't think the concept is gimmicky at all really. The way I see it, the whole point of the new track is to allow their steel coasters to withstand higher forces than what wooden coasters or other coasters using their I-beams can. I think the single rail system will look strange, but when it comes down to it RMC is just offering a steel coaster with insane potential, solely because it is from RMC. Some of the elements shown in the teaser videos are unlike anything we have seen from other coaster manufacturers. The only thing that I believe makes Lightning Rod's launch a gimmick is the fact that it's more of an accelerated lift hill rather than what we see on other launch coasters. Even then, I see Herschend as the guilty party in wanting a wooden coaster with a launch. They're the ones that will market the ride to the GP as the first wooden launched coaster, not RMC. I've said it before, but Herschend seems to like these sorts of gimmicks. I agree the launch is a gimmick, but it is hardly just an accelerated lift hill. The Hulk's launch is about as fast and that has quite a bit of kick to it. It definitely won't be the most forceful launch ever, but I expect it be far from dull.

I could honestly see it being Skull Mountain due to its proximity to Joker. I could definitely see them expanding their rehaul of the lakefront even further, including Skull Mountain. Wouldn't surprise me if they tore it down to build a Justice League ride, reusing the exterior shell of the building.

Yep. Then people like you say something, which causes people complaining about the complaining to get offended and start complaining about you. It's a vicious cycle Anyway, I've noticed a big spike in hype in real life of our new 4D since the retheme. Besides being the more aesthetically pleasing choice, it seems to have paid off marketing-wise as well. I'm proud of GAdv acknowledging their awful choice of ride names and changing them mid-offseason 2 years in a row. Gotta give credit when it's due!

For those of you who have been to Port Aventura, how does Dragon Khan rank with some of the other elite B&M loopers around the world (like Hulk, Kumba, Kraken, Montu, Nemesis, Banshee, Alpengeist, etc...)? It has always been one of the most intriguing Beemers to me as it has the extra inversion compared to standard B&M loopers and it was built during a time where intensity was a major focus for the company. Also, how does Shambhala rank among B&M mega coasters? Is it closer to Fyry325 or Raging Bull in terms of quality and intensity? -
I LOVE the retheme!! The name Total Mayhem was painfully generic, especially at an SF park with some of the most original-named rides (El Toro, Nitro, Kingda Ka, Zumanjaro). Now, obviously The Joker is not original, but it is far less cheesy, has a solid theme, and the colors are lightyears better than Total Mayhem's were. It should look great as the first thing you see while entering the park, especially with those colors aling the lake.
-
I don't think anyone realizes just how amazing that first drop is. WC's first drop was almost exactly like a shorter version of El Toro, while this looks just like a shorter version of EGF's. In the back row I suspect some killer ejector heading down hill, with a very jarring right turn which should provide some sweet laterals as you're experiencing strong ejector. IMO it will likely be one of RMC's 3 best first drops yet. The ride itself is looking much better in real life than it did in the animation. Even if it is RMC's weakest layout of 2016, it should still be a top 3 coaster in the state, and one helluva addition.

I am not too happy with the name Total Mayhem. It might grow on me, but it is painfully generic for a park with some of SF's best, most original names (Nitro, El Toro, Kingda Ja, Zumanjaro). Total Mayhem sounds like an RCT coaster at one of the pre-built parks the game comes with.
