Photo TR: My second trip to WDW
Darksin replied to EastCoastn07's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
LOL Old Town is on Orlo Bronson Highway. You just made a wrong turn comming out of the park! Wow it's been a while since I've been down that way even after living in that hellhole for 20 years. Funny how you miss the common sights! Love the photos and enjoy the vacation! I can't wait for the Aquatica to open! They have been trying to build that since they got Discovery Cove open, way back when I was still working there at age 16 (a good ten years ago now). I can't wait to go back to Orlando and see what they've done to my parks, normally it just ends up with me ranting but it's always fun! Mmmm come on Halloween so we can go to HHN! -
*Gets down on her knees* Oh thank you Disney Gods for FINALLY granting my fondest wish!

At least you didn't have to truck up from MGM over to Mouseketeria to get decent food! I can't even begin on how many times we would hope the bus or someones car and go booking ass over there for decent food. We couldn't get off property quick enough so it was either bring your own food or run for the 'Teria. Although I do have to say when I got suck working Fantasmic the F&B manager would let us eat the left over pretzels and such that would end up thrown away. Nice little snack at the end of the night! The park doesn't "close" in the traditional sense. There are people in the parks (almost all parks in Central Florida) around the clock. The things that close are your gift shops, exhibits and restaurants. Many times when an attraction has a way to be closed off it's left open because there is work that ends done that night (lights, maitanace, ect). Plus you've got Park Ops running around at night and any speical events which may be in the park at any given time. I didn't see many Speical events that kept WDW parks open late but I can tell you Seaworld had them once or twice a week in the summer.

Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
Darksin replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Good: Montu BGT: I found nothing about this ride on the bad side, it's smooth sweet and the butterfly's don't leave till you hit the break run. Racer Kennywood: Bunny hops are my friend! This ride just gives you the air time and the sound of a woodie, it just "does" it for me! Bad: Scorpion BGT: This is a rough little sucker and the end just sucks. You come around and outside loop to get back to station 1. That and the damn "You've just been stun by (Sssss) the Scorpion!" if enough to make you almost prefer a root canal! Python BGT: You need a root canal after riding it, because afterwards all you do is say "Ow, Ow.. Ow...". BTMR at WDW: While this ride will always have a soft spot with my as my favorite childhood coaster, it's a let down on the end. There isn't much airtime to speak of and I always thought they could have done better. -
I remember not long ago, watching a thing on thrill rides and how they do the testing for these cables. They are made, designed and tested to withstand astronomical amounts of force, something like quadruple the force the ride could possibly produce. It also showed how just because half the cable snaps the other half is suppose to be designed not to buckle and cause an E-stop on the ride. Most of these rides anymore are so damned sophisticated and touchy they can and will E-stop for the most off the wall reasons. Anything from an actually problem to the fact the sensor timed out and decided it didn't like the situation. I've seen my rides (and others) E-stop because of BUGS landing on the sensors! It's wild how the tech works anymore. It really is a freak accident, even more so after thinking about what they said on this program. Plus knowing how touchy rides can be? Perhaps the cable was faulty from the go? Maybe Zeus decided to smite this ride cause he's not a superman fan? Maybe the boogyman did it? We won't know until or even if they find the cause. Either way I hope the girl recovers to the best possible condition. It could have been anyone, even someone here who it happened to. It's all luck of the draw my friends, sadly this girls number came up.

The WDW Disney College Program
Darksin replied to jackskellington101's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've always heard mixed things about the program. From the year of slavery I put in over at Disney the biggest complaint I heard was about Vista Way which had to many people in to small an apartment and the Crappy Transportation. I mean the rumor's would fly as to crazy things that could happen in any apartment complex so I really put no credit to that. However the transportation does suck! Always take an early bus or bring your own car! I also heard how Disney took a good amount of people's pay to cover rent and transportation but I don't know how true this is, but since Disney doesn't pay crap to begin with I can imagine it is seen that way. Also note that while "MK Rides" is the cooler place to work is also make the lowest on the pay scale. If your going for the program go for this Hotels! A few people I keep in touch with have gotten very sweet jobs due to working in the resorts rather then rides! -

I'm hungry, tired and the rum is gone... again! Bloody hell!

Oh great, you just had to take pictures of Norway didn't you?! Now I want one of those evil but ever so yummy Sweet Rasin Pretzels! CURSES! I know they used to have the "orignal" postal mark for mail going out on Disney property, do they even still offer that?

Honestly, your best chance is to make a phone call or ask a US friend to do such for you. Ask the park if they are still selling the shirts and if so, ask for one to be shipped to you. If that fails, if anyone has them left it will be the Universal clearance store located in "Prime Outlets" in Orlando, FL. I don't know if they will ship but that is normally where the left over product goes. You could also try eBay or Yahoo Auctions. I'm sure someone over there has them!

Typhoon Lagoon isn't the biggest, it mainly appears so since Disney put the Island break in the middle of it. Although the waves it can generate can reach 20 foot tall, this feature is mainly used for a "speical program" that teaches surfing to guests who pay a large amount of money for it. However they do have one of the largest machines to generate their waves, I can't remember which style of system it is now.

As a former Disney slave I can tell you, normal CM's have no athority to stop people from doing anything. I doubt that has changed and I've seen fellow CM's get 3 day suspensions from threatening people with park explusion for acting up or just being jackasses. The most they can do is call a lead or manager and ask what to do about the situation. Trust me, finding Leads or Management is like trying to locate an airforce stealth bomber unless your at one of the BIG attractions (and even that is difficult). In many cases mangement doesn't care or has better things to do. I hate to say it but in 85% of the cases the "Magic" is gone from the Disney parks because people just don't care.

Rides you won't do again
Darksin replied to spaceace12's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great American Scream Machine @ SFGAdv That thing beats the crap out of me no matter how I brace myself. Amen ObeyGiant! I love stitch but utterly refused to go anyplace NEAR Escape simply based on the fact I'm bitter about them taking out Alien Encounter. I don't care if it was only suppose to be a "temp" attraction, damnit I loved it! -
Funniest Ride Experiences
Darksin replied to Coasters 4 ever's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm going to guess these are things that you saw people do and didn't, in fact do yourself. So I shall tell my non-Ride Ops stories! A few years ago I haven't been to SFGAdv in several years and in that time they had built Nitro. So my husband decided we'd wait till the end of the day then ride when the lines where shorter. So after a short line we get on and the guy in Control Room has decided to have a good ole' time. He made a comment "So who's never been on this bad boy before" so naturally I raise my hand. The next comment is something like "Your not a coaster virgin are you" which was a HUGE no and then it was "Well tell us how ya like it" and the car went out. After we returned to loading he asked "Did ya like it?" which got a big thumbs up and a loud cheer then I hear my favorite thing "Then let's do it again!" and boom! Off we went on a second round! I used to work for Seaworld Orlando so we haunted BGT on days off since they have the best coasters in Florida. So one nasty overcast day we standing on Montu's platform chatting with the ride ops since the park was dead (a heavy storm has just gone threw). The lead came out and started talking with us while they where waiting for an all clear on the storm, when that finally happened the Ops lead looked at us and said "So, ya wanna do the ride threws?" Needless to say we had a good long time on Montu before anyone else showed back up! BGT with the Seaworld crew again, they had just opened up Gwazi and it was still on "testing" and they invited Busch Park employees to "Ride it! Tell us whatcha think!" Well we rode and after we got off there was some woman standing there coughing and looking like she was about to be sick. So we paused for a moment since she was in front of us, when all of a sudden she yells "I swallowed a DAMN BUG". I think we almost peed ourselves laughing! -
Umm, Hi. My name is Carrie and I'm addicted to G-Forces.. So as I said, my name is Carrie and I currently live in Delaware. Which would make the closest "home park" for me either SF Great Adventure or Dorney Park. However I spent 20 living in Orlando, Florida so I know a lot about that area. More since since at one point in my life I've worked for every major theme park in the area, oh the stories I could tell! Plus as far as I know I also have one of the better IOA rider records for a single day, 50 times on Dueling Dragons! It was only after that wonderful day my mother made a comment about how your not suppose to ride more then 4-5 times in a row or else the fluid in your brain can shift. Which explains some things! I'm fairly goofy, have a very bazaar sence of humor and even weirder hobbies. So if I scare or tramatize people, Sorry in advance!

I know Rock'n'Roller Coaster had a fairly smooth ride. When I worked there I became so numb to it that it was easily a "sleeper" for me from doing ride threws so often. Granted it's been about a year since I've ridden it but considering how much those mechanics baby it and how much WDW overpaid for that ride I can't see it getting to rough.

The Superchannel building is no worse the the two Drug Lord Hotels that Westgate finally bought. You know the ones off Universal Blvd and Carrier Drive? Those where under construction for how many years before they stepped in? Anyway, back to HLE. You know when this place opened it gave it a top life of 10 years or so. Imagine our shock when they started having problem's within two years, okay so it really wasn't shock. More of "Well, duh folks". There is nothing to draw people in and I've head that the customer service wasn't exactly "great". I can't say from personal experience other then driving by it going "CLOSE already..I wanna go explore it!" Even with this new move I don't give this park much life. It's in a horrible location which while close to I-4 is not easy to find unless you know where your going and last time I checked didn't have much in the way of signs. Plus without anykind of major attraction they're sitting on borrowed time, it'll be another Splendid China or Heritage USA. Although when they do go defunct the auction should have a load of interesting stuff!

IOA - other random queue/ theme music
Darksin replied to xgriffinx's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I know when IOA opened they had a different CD other then the current one that is out now. I have no idea if had the other music on it. Heck, if nothing else you can call down there and ask them if they have it available for purchase. They're normally pretty helpful in regard's to weird requests. -
How did you end up here???
Darksin replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Oddly enough it happened last night. I was having a conversation with my husband when he asked me if I knew what was going on with SFNO. Having no idea as I haven't heard anything I proceeded to start googling things and ended up here! Then proceeded to spend most of the night going threw the fourms and checking out thread's that seemed to appeal to me. So, thats how I ended up here! -
SFNO/Jazzland Discussion Thread
Darksin replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So what is the status of SFNO? I've been wondering about this for a while but can't find anything more current then the end of 2006. Has anyone gotten in and checked things out lately and is B:tR finally out? Been seriously considering heading out that way to check out the remain's of the park or if anything has been done with it. Curse this fasination with abandoned parks!
