  1. Yeah, it's viable in the long term. Drive-Through Safari was the name of the game for the first 40 years of its existence.
  2. Doesn't look like it; I see ticket cards and season passes only.
  3. Down in Wildwood for Spring Car Show weekened....hopefully it doesn't become a complete wash out haha. Anyway, Morey's is scheduled to open Mariner's Pier tomorrow, but I did get to see them testing Sea Serpent on my stroll of the boardwalk earlier. Some early pictures... I'm not sure how disassembled these Go-Karts (behind the aquarium, across the boards from Splash Zone water park) normally get the during the off season, but this looks kinda like they won't be opening this year. Sadly it does not appear that Flow House, and their awesome bar, will be open this weekend... ...But Crazy Randy's retro arcade and Fascination was up and running! More to come!
  4. Original post updated - The big trip at the end of June has been modified to include a full day at Holiday World!
  5. I just don't get it. Six Flags says, flat out, "15 rides will be closed/removed from parks as a cost-savings measure," and then everyone clamors about how they're going to spend more than zero dollars to relocate-old/install-new rides at parks that generally, during normal, non-pandemic, times, don't see substantial investment. It's like the world has lost its mind.
  6. They normally park trains there. Don't read anything into it. As Bill said, Ka will never launch a train with passengers while Zu's cars are anywhere other than the station.
  7. This Saturday the 8th? It's pass-holders only so not likely to be too bad. Next Saturday the 15th? Weather Channel is calling for 73 degrees and partly cloudy. I'd say it'll probably be a mess, between new employees, early-season bugs, crowds of people eager to get out and do something now that they're vaccinated, perfect amusement park weather....yeah, likely a mess. Better splurge for that FL+. I'll be there the evening of the 14th and all day on the 15th myself, but I've got a Platinum Pass with the All-Season FL+ so I'm not worried.
  8. A nice touch. I guess the wooden block-style logos that made up the originals would've been too much (and a return to buzz-bars and skid brakes, LOL), but still a nice touch. Nostalgia is always good.
  9. @thrillseeker4552I've only ever been to the park once, but my similar experience as a first-time may be helpful to you. Going on weekdays will definitely be to your advantage, like I did...granted mine was in the middle of February when I'm sure the park was less busy, but that still helps. 1. I would recommend hitting Cheetah Chase early in the day, especially if you won't have Quick-Queue. I can't comment on Cobra's Curse since I skipped it (I can't stomach spinning coasters), but Cheetah was one of the few places that the QQ actually helped. From there, I'd recommend Sand Serpent (since it's a Wild Mouse it doesn't have the best capacity), Tigris, and Falcon's Fury as other lower-capacity rides. I'd also try to hit the flume earlier in the day before it gets too hot, and the rapids if they're your thing. 2. Whatever you do, print out the park map before you go. When I went, there were no printed maps available at the park and their app's map is HORRIBLE. You will need it, because I found the layout very confusing. All of the foliage makes things harder to see and can make navigating a pain; there are also a couple of paths to get from A to B where one is much longer than the other. 3. I didn't take in any actual animal shows, but there should be plenty available. Even without them, you can see a lot just wandering around. The train ride also provides good views of animals on one of the routes (can't remember which one, I wanna say it's if you get on at the Nairobi station). 4. Do not skip the pretzels from Twisted Tails Pretzels (near Scorpion and Falcon's Fury). Sweet, buttery goodness. 5. With two full days, you should have plenty of time to do everything, even if crowds are pretty bad. While some of the rides here are truly awesome and should not be skipped (Kumba, Cheetah, Scorpion, Falcon's Fury*), there really aren't a LOT of rides. *Probably Montu too, but it was broken while I was there.
  10. You might be right about that. Do these passes expire a year after purchase, or first activation, or are they tied to a calendar year like SF/CF passes? And I'm correct to assume that a pass purchased in Florida is only valid at the Florida parks, right? I could probably swing two trips in the span of a year. From OrlandoInsider, it appears that crowds are very light the first two weeks of December...might be worth another trip down to Florida for that, and hopefully IG and Icebreaker.
  11. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for you and all the "little things" the park is doing. They can definitely improve a day. Just the way it was being hyped and all "Don't wanna spoil it," I was expecting something bigger, like what I'm about to respond to @Danrarbcabout. It's not even about new rides...personally, if I frequented any SF park, I'd be clamoring for them to do something about the horrific food service experiences before any kind of prettying up of the park. But maybe that's just me.
  12. LOL. The Batmobile is coming back, that's it. I was expecting them running the train backwards or something. You guys are desperate for anything, aren't you?
  13. Looks awesome, like a blend of Maverick and I305. Unfortunately I'll probably never ride it, since I can't justify the cost of Universal tickets for what I'm interested in, but yeah, looking really good. Glad you locals get to experience it!
  14. Yep, the two Woodstock Expresses at KI and KD are the same ride (though I will forever call them Beastie and Scooby-Doo respectively)....and agreed as awesome in the back row. There's also an identical model at Carowinds, and I believe that Ghoster Coaster at CW is the same layout. Banshee is my favorite B&M Invert, just barely edging out Raptor at CP....but I don't mind the B&M vest restraints. If you dislike them, yeah I could see how it could be a one-and-done.
  15. Impulse, at Knoebels, this past Saturday. #168.
  16. Really? In the DE/NJ/eastern PA area, where there is one country station on the radio, I guarantee you that 7 out of 10 people under 40 have never heard of her, two know her as "that country singer with the big boobs and hair" and couldn't name a single song, and one is a fan. I find myself in the middle category.
  17. Not that I could tell from last year, but I'm no expert. I did notice that Black Diamond's water-dropping effect near the end was off.
  18. Ka and Zumanjaro frequently run together....they just can't launch a train while Zum's cars are anywhere on the lift/drop. And yeah....not counting on them buying any amount of new trains for Ka anytime soon. Maybe they'll switch to the soft shoulder restraints, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that either.
  19. Mini-TR 5/1: My buddy Ian and I made the trek up to Knoebels yesterday for a combination birthday trip, both of ours which we were prevented from celebrating properly by COVID. Most everything was running, except notably the Flyers (still disassembled), Tornado (completely missing), Flying Turns (though it does look like they've finished the rebuild), and all of the other rides indicated as Closed on their website. Got my first ride ever on Looper (my first time going to the park with someone LOL), which was quite awesome, and it was great introducing Ian to the magical experiences that are Phoenix, Stratosphere, the Scooters, and Cosmotron. We skipped a lot of rides because it was Scout Day and beautiful weather and lines ranged from just barely tolerable to terrible (especially the motor boats). Ride counts: Phoenix x2 Twister x1 Impulse x1 Scooters x1 Looper x1 Skywayx1 Black Diamond x1 Whipper x1 Stratosphere x1 Grand Carosel x1 (got 10 rings!) Haunted Mansion x1 Poor sad Flyers...I stand corrected on my assertion that they would be reassembled in a week. All in all, a great day.
  20. Good to hear! Thanks for the tips. Yeah, I'm definitely spoiled. Within a 3-4 hour radius (about my limit for a day-trip), I have: Kings Dominion, BGW, SFGAdv, SFAmerica, Morey's, Casino Pier, Coney Island (NY), American Dream, Hershey, Knoebels, Dorney Park, Dutch Wonderland, Ocean City (both NJ and MD), Sesame Place, and probably a half-dozen others I'm forgetting. Thanks for the tips on St. Louis/Eureka. My hotel is in Eureka for the cost-savings, but I definitely planned to check out the city a little bit (especially since SFStL, as of right now, is sheduled to close at 7 PM). Oh, and yeah I drink LOL. Back in my days working on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights my nickname was "The Fish."
  21. Wow...yeah utter fail on my part. Holiday World, for some reason, wasn't on my Google Map of Parks in the US. It is now, and I'll be trying to work that into the trip. Yeah, what can I say, I like to plan LOL. Good luck to you in that regard...I'm not sure how Canada is dealing with COVID. Thank you very much, sir! 1. Two reasons here - A. I kinda really like Kings Island, thus the dedicated trip in May, and the one-day trips later in the year. B. It makes for a good stop-over location on major long trip, but I'm actually probably going to eliminate it in the June trip to add Holiday World. 2. Yep. Most of the stops on parks I've been to on the June trip are to break up the driving. As I've already mentioned, Holiday World will be added, likely replacing KI on this trip. The reason for including SF STtL on this trip is that I have a Six Flags Pass this year, and likely won't next year (I'd be too close to skip it). SDC is would add another day to the trip that I just can't afford. If the routing doesn't make sense hearing it, maybe this map (still not edited for HW instead of KI) will help: 3. Adventure park USA is a tiny park north of DC with a Schwarzkopf Wildcat and a Zamperla Windstorm, that I just happen to pass by several times on these trips. I've never bothered to stop in, but intend to this year. SDC, as I said, is just too far out. Holiday World will be added to the June trip. Knoebels I can do as a day trip (and actually am today right after writing this). Same goes for Hershey; it's only 2.5 hours away. 4. Believe me, I would prefer to do Waldameer first and not backtrack in the middle of my Sandusky stay- only problem, it's not open on Friday 5/28. Thank you though for the advice on this park. Thank you everyone for the commentary and critique! Please keep it coming.
  22. Hello everyone. It's that time of year again, and after a limited 2020, it's time to hit the road and tackle some more parks! Some quick introductory notes: 1. I already have a CF Platinum Pass with All-Season, All-Park Fast Lane+, a Six Flags season pass, and will likely be picking up a Parques Reunidos Platinum Pass as well. 2. My work schedule allows me every other weekend as a 3-day weekend, thus how a lot of this trips are scheduled. 3. My preference on trips is obviously coasters I do also enjoy water rides, drop rides, and spinning rides where you're facing in line with the rotation (like a Musik Express), but things like frisbees mess me up. 4. I do not mind driving long distances at all (12-hours straight is about my limit). 5. I've been to all of the CF Parks listed several times. 6. "Home" for me is Newark, DE about 45 minutes south of Philadelphia and about an hour north of Baltimore. Below, please see an outline of the trips I have planned this summer and my requests for advice, though any feedback is welcome. (Asterisks indicate parks that I've never been to) 2021 Pre-Season Jaunt -Friday, 5/6 through Sunday, 5/9 - A brief weekend trip to Wildwood, mostly for the Spring Car Show, but also to finally check out Sea Serpent with the new vest restraints. No advice needed here. Ohio Kickoff Weekend -Friday 5/14 through Sunday, 5/16 - A blitz trip out to Kings Island, swinging by Kings Dominion for their passholder-preview day on the way back. No advice needed here either. Ohio - The Real Trip! -Friday, 5/28 - Drive out to Sandusky, hit CP after hotel check in. -Saturday, 5/29 - Full day at Cedar Point -Sunday, 5/30 - Half day at Cedar Point Shores, then headed to Erie for Waldameer* -Monday, 5/31 - Full day at Cedar Point/Shores -Tuesday, 6/1 - Full day at Kings Island/Soak City -Wednesday, 6/2 - Drive home. My advice request here is for Waldameer...aside from the Big 2 (Comet, Ravine Flyer II) and the log flume, is anything else here a can't-miss? I'm also presuming the $25 Wally Card will be my most financial safe bet. The Big 2021 Amusement Park Tour CANCELLED! -Tuesday, 6/22 - Drive down to Atlanta, stopping by Carowinds on the way to break up the trip and get some rides on Fury and Copperhead Strike. (yeah, I know this is a long long driving day, but it's really the only way I can make this trip work). -Wednesday 6/23 - Full day at SF over Georgia* -Thursday 6/24 - 2 hours at SF over Georgia, then driving to Pigeon Forge, stopping by Lake Winne* on the way. -Friday, 6/25 - Full day at Dollywood* -Saturday, 6/26 - Driving to Eureka, MO, stopping by Beech Bend* on the way. -Sunday, 6/27 - Full day at SF St. Louis* -Monday, 6/28 - Driving to Louisville, KY, stopping at Holiday World for a full day. -Tuesday 6/29 - Full day at Kentucky Kingdom. -Wednesday, 6/30 - Drive home, stopping by Camden Park* on the way. EDIT: The full day at KI was removed, adding a full day at Holiday World. Any advice pertaining to the new parks to me (SFoG, Dollywood, Beech Bend, SFStL, Holiday World, KK, Camden Park) would be greatly appreciated. Mid-Western Pennsylvania Blitz CANCELLED! -Friday, 7/9 - Drive to Pittsburgh, stopping by Adventure Park USA*, Lakemont Park*, and Idlewild* on the way. -Saturday, 7/10 - Full day at Kennywood. -Sunday, 7/11 - Drive home. stopping by Dorney Park/Wildwater Kingdom on the way. I think I'm pretty set here. Hoping Steel Curtain will be open; if not I might put this trip off to next year. Though I will still be doing a day trip to Lakemont Park on 7/10. Northeastern Super-Blitz -Friday, 8/6 - Drive to Queensbury, NY and hit Great Escape* after arrival. -Saturday, 8/7 - Drive to Agawam, MA, hitting the following parks along the way: Story Land (NH)*, Funtown Splashtown*, Canobie Lake Park* -Sunday, 8/8 - Drive home, stopping by SF New England for some rides on Superman, Wicked Cyclone, and Thunderbolt and Lake Compounce (for some rides on Boulder Dash and maybe try to get on Wildcat) on the way. Any advice pertaining to the new parks to me (Great Escape, Story Land, Funtown Splashtown, Canobie) would be appreciated. Maybe-not-happening Indiana Trip -Thursday, 8/12 - Drive to Sandusky, hit CP after check in. -Friday, 8/13 - Full day at CP -Saturday, 8/14 - Drive to Indianapolis, spending 5 hours or so at Indiana Beach* -Sunday, 8/15 - Thursday, 8/19 - Work Conference in Indianapolis -Friday, 8/20 - Drive home. My main question here: is 5 hours enough time at Indiana Beach to hit all of the major coasters at least once? Thanks again for looking this over...please feel free to provide any advice or feedback, positive or negative, you may have.
  23. Great report! I love little out of the way places like this.
  24. Weird. Guess I'll try again to wait through the queue to be able access the site to try again. Only 32 minutes.
  25. Not everywhere for the no-masks-outdoors sadly, KD is still requiring them at all times outside of RelaxZones or water stuff. Guess they're taking a state-by state approach; good for them on that.
