Your Park "To Do List"
Goliath513 replied to DBru's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree. This is a fun thread. I'd like to start with something simple. Knott's Berry Farm Restore the Sky Jump Bring back the Parachutes!!!! Restore the Neon to the "K" on top of the Tower Red and White Checkers again please! California's Great America Tear down the Grizzly and use that space for something worthwhile. Repaint Top Gun to something other than black (Carowinds Top Gun) Restore the Demon to it former glory, bring back the rocks and the Demon theme song! Agreed to everything here! Better yet, bring it back to CGA where it was a good ride and replace the boring a$$ Boomerang Bay. I thought they just did this when they built HH in 2005. Now for my thoughts. SFMM -Don't remove any more flats! -Better food at the places over by Riddler. -Repaint Batman to anything but that god awful yellow all the clones have. -Actually use the space of Flashback & Psyclone instead of just leaving empty. -Re track Colossus and restore the double-down. SFDK -For god's sake get rid of Kong. -Nothing else. Waterworld Concord -Plant some trees, the park desperately needs them. -Add some color to the slides. All white and faded blue is boring. CGA (aside from what is stated above by others) -Put something in to GL's old spot. That's all for now. -

This is all like porn! AstroWorld looked like an amazing park and I really wish I had gotten a chance to visit it. Magic Mountain also looks so much different than today. It's amazing how park's can change over time. I'm also partial to the older rides which actually had some character to them like flumes, river rides, and freefalls. It's too bad we don't see many of these rides around today. Do you have anything from the original Elitch Gardens? -
1997 Water World slide collapse
Goliath513 replied to speedracer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yes. It was an end of the year trip. Now unfortunately, in American legal system, everyone is entitled to lawyers regardless of how stupid their actions. And these lawyers used the trick of making people feel sorry for the "poor kids who suffered this horrible tragedy." This is the reason why so many lawsuits against parks win when it is clearly not their fault. As perfectly said byChrisZer0: There is no better way to describe this. -
1997 Water World slide collapse
Goliath513 replied to speedracer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No that's not what I meant. They physically overpowered the lifeguards. As in "shoving the lifeguards out of the way while others pile on" I hope this is more understandable. -

I totally 1000% agree with you on that. Stupidity, in any form, should never be reinforced by paying the victims and their families. If anything, the families of the kids should have to pay the park for the losses due to the negative impression shown by the media. As a high school senior myself, I am surrounded by idiots just like this who do stupid things and get away with them. The attorneys for the students are f***ing idiots themselves for defending the students. The school district had little responsibility in this, and the park did all they could to prevent the pile up And for making the ride more safe!? Well how about work on crowd control first. [/rant] -

The kids overpowered the lifeguards when they would not let them through. -

The previous record was set at (now defunct) Manteca Waterslides on a slide built into the hill side. Banzai Pipleline (now Hurricane) is a free standing structure in which is far more vulnerable to collapse under extreme weight. I guess this was the breaking point at which what they realized was wrong. People dumb enough to do something like this should not be allowed to reproduce. -

Fourth picture down from the top - that's some crazy swinging! Over 90 degrees on an un-banked turn! Wow! I wish current suspended coasters had that much swinging. -
RCT1, 2, & 3 FAQ's
Goliath513 replied to Goliath513's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
For rct 1 and 2, you should be able to access the files from anywhere on your computer. I have no clue how to do that, but the best thing to do would be to use a trainer (I use 8-Cars) to zero the clearances. Another unrelated piece of information that might be helpful to those looking to play RCT1 on Vista: I found a patch that allows it to work, but it won't work if you have the expansion packs. -

The food is awesome, that's why! I can't believe they censored out all the deaths from Final Destination 2 on USA. It just defeats the whole purpose of the movie.

This blue-greenish color for the supports just contradicts the name and theme of the ride. It does not hint of anything devilish like the name does. IMO blood red supports would have looked much better on it. With any luck, the most theming this ride will get will be a nice logo on the generic metal shed style station.

I'm in Colorado for Christmas and it's snowing heavily! -
Their song "Wizards in Winter" played was constantly played at SFDK during holiday in the park last weekend. Now that's a pretty good song!

Which is worse, Arrow or Vekoma?
Goliath513 replied to MLRC7 CP's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They aren't quite that bad. Kong at SFDK was known for being among the roughest of the SLCs and I rode it last Saturday and it was running quite smoothly which made for an enjoyable ride. (I wonder when we'll see "smooth" and "SLC" in the same sentence again ) Anyways, I remember the ride back in 2001/2002 and it was way worse back then. I think it all depends on how well the park maintains it. In general, Vekomas are rougher than Arrows. I have yet to experience a smooth Boomerang though. Arrow definately has more unique rides than Vekoma like X and Viper which happen to be amazing coasters! My vote goes for Vekoma as the worse. -
I rode it back in 2001. It was the first coaster I rode at SFMM because nothing else was open yet. The trains were horrible; they were like coffins pretty much. The restraints locked so hard on me one time that I seriously felt like my breathing was cut off. Despite that and the roughness on the hairpin turns, it was a decent ride. We re-rode it multiple times, so it wasn't that bad. The thing I enjoyed most about it was the amazing view of Hurricane Harbor on the straightaway before the first hairpin drop. The drops were the roughest part of the ride, but they still provided a very unique feel as the trains entered them and whiped through. I think flashback had the potential to be a pretty good ride if they would have given it some TLC and replacements for those murderous trains. Other than that, I don't have much to say. Now it's your guys' turn to share your experiences for the non-Psyclone credit mourner, me.

Another entertaining update. Looks like you all had a blast! I have never seen SFMM so empty before. Jahan, that last picture should go on your myspace.
