Who needs a Wii when you have Golf for the Atari 2600? You can score 79 over par!

My sister-in-law's friend is going to WDW this weekend, but one of the kids has a broken arm in a cast. She wanted to know if any of the rides or attractions had restrictions on broken arms or casts. Obviously, the shows that walk-through attractions would not have any restrictions. Slow-moving rides like IASW or POTC should be OK too. My concerns would be with the roller coasters. Can you ride the coasters with a broken arm? I would think the over the shoulder restraints on Rock N Roller Coaster might prove a problem if the arm was in a sling. Thanks!

I don't think you totally failed. It had some good shots of the park and showed it off nicely. It's just the music that I really didn't like. It was two songs crammed together into one video. I don't think that worked, IHMO. I also think too much country music is used for Dollywood. Personally, I tihnk AC/DC works with Dollywood, oddly enough.

I have no words for this video from Japanese TV. Just watch it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_0kCSYBWZs

Jeremy Kohrs’ Hoodie: The Movie This video is one of the most original videos in the contest. It breaks away from the "music video" format found in the other videos. It was funny and had some great shots of Castles N Coasters. The only problem I found was that it did end a bit abruptly. Also, the last bit seemed to lose a little momentum. Overall, I liked this video. 9/10 Erik Johnson’s Dollywood Overall, the video showed off the park nicely. It showed the different things you can do in the park, including a few shows. I would have liked to see more of the Country Fair flat rides, though. I think this is also the first time I've seen a POV of the Veggietales Coaster! The video is at a slower pace than some of the other videos in the contest (including mine), but that's not a bad thing. The only problem I had with the video was mashing two songs into the video. It's like Erik ran out of time on the first song, but he had more footage. The solution: use another song! I'm not a big fan of the music (I know, Dolly Parton songs are revelant to Dollywood), but it seemed to work OK in the video. 8/10 Tom Mueller’s Heide Park First off, whenever I see Tom smile, I can't help but laugh! I liked the montage of people making goofy faces at the camera at the beginning and end of the video. I like how the video showed off the ride and the fun antics of the people that rode them. Maybe this video needed more of Tom's smile so we can all crack up! 9/10 Fredric Molitor’s Weekend Airtime While I watched the video, I was really digging it. I was digging the music, the shots, the friends, and the shots of Black Mamba. I was really enjoying the video and how it showed off the park, then it ended abruptly! I was ready to see more of the park, but it ended suddenly. We see the credits and people riding the bus. The video was pretty good, but it could have been at least 2 minutes longer. I want more! 7/10 Jon LoCoco’s Cedar Point I thought this was a pretty solid video and it showed off Cedar Point well. There weren't any people doing fun antics, but that's OK for this video. The great shots of the park made up for it. I don't think Jon showed every roller coaster and other flats, but it's difficult to do so with so many rides and coasters at Cedar Point. It's a fun video that shows off Cedar Point well. 8/10 This last round had some pretty solid videos. Ranking for this round: 1.) Jeremy Kohrs’ Hoodie: The Movie 9/10 2.) Erik Johnson’s Dollywood 8/10 3.) Tom Mueller’s Heide Park 9/10 4.) Fredric Molitor’s Weekend Airtime 7/10 5.) Jon LoCoco’s Cedar Point 8/10 Overall: 1.) Kevin Gillian’s “Opening Segment” 10/10 2.) Great PTR, but why did you not ride the Lady Gay? People take photos of it, but to be a true Dutch Wonderland fanboy (er, fangirl), you need to ride the Lady Gay. It's fantastic! -
OK, I've seen all of them and here are my thoughts... Andy Korb’s Parc Asterix For a video that shows about half of the park's coasters, this was pretty entertaining. Even if it was missing a few coasters, it showed off rides that I don't normally see in videos, like the raft ride or the dark ride where the figures don't move. It showed off a bunch of friends having fun, even if the antics weren't as goofy as Robb's. The video seemed a little slow-paced. BTW, I thought Robb & Elissa were the only ones who took their baby to theme parks? 7/10 WillMontu’s “Wetness” The premise of this video was interesting -- show the different ways the parks try to get us wet. The introduction was pretty entertaining, even though I hate Styx. The rest of the video was good, even though it had shaky camerawork. I thought the video was just too long. It was like a joke that went on and on well after the audience had laughed. After about 1 1/2 minutes of seeing wet stuff, I was getting bored and wanted the video to move on. I think more comments from people who got wet might have helped out your video. The video of your camera destruction was pretty cool. 6/10 Matthew Hick’s Drayton Manor This video showed off the coasters and the drop ride in the park very well. The shots weren't shaky and there were some good shots of the coaster. The problem I had with the video is that the shots didn't really match up with the beat of the music. It was like the video was edited first and then the music was added later. I think there were too many shots of G-Force that it got boring after a while. 6/10 Norman Snook’s Déjà vu When I first saw the video and heard the techno music, I was reminded of Tommy Faircloth's "Roller Coaster Adventures" video. Other than that, the video was quite entertaining. Like I said in the Tatsu video, it's hard to make a video of one roller coaster. You end up using a lot of POV shots or the same shots over and over again. This video was pretty entertaining. My favorite part was when the camera was videotaping Deja Vu and then the camera operator lowered the camera so we see a shot of the ground. Usually, I would edit out the shot of the ground, but the editor did something neat with the shot and made it a fade/reverse color shot. I still can't figure out how the editor showed two trains on the Deja Vu spikes. I suppose I will never learn the secret! Overall, a good video. 9/10 Mark Owen’s Hong Kong Disneyland Before I say anything, I would like to say, yes, I know HKDL doesn't have much in the way of attractions. However, I would have liked to see more of what HKDL has to offer. There were a lot of character shots, but only small segments of the other rides. I would have liked to see more of the cool effects on the Jungle Cruise. I would have liked to see more of Buzz Lightyear. Heck, I would have even wanted to see more of bad Pooh! Overall, the video wasn't bad, but I can see the potential for much more. 7/10 Rankings for this round 1.) Andy Korb’s Parc Asterix 7/10 2.) WillMontu’s “Wetness” 6/10 3.) Matthew Hick’s Drayton Manor 6/10 4.) Norman Snook’s Déjà vu 9/10 5.) Mark Owen’s Hong Kong Disneyland 7/10 Overall 1.) Kevin Gillian’s “Opening Segment” 10/10 2.) JimmyBo’s PortAdventura 9/10 3.) Bruno Lancetti’s Expedition GeForce First impression I had was with the music. It sounded like a combination between music from a NES game and 70's porn. The video game a lot of good off-ride shots of Expedition GeForce. The only problem is that I felt I saw the same thing way too many times. One notable section was at the beginning where we saw the lift hill and first drop shots. I think I saw the lift hill six times in a row. After the 3rd or 4th time, I was yelling at the screen, "Come on, show something else!" I also felt that there was too much back-to-back footage of the first hill and a turn. I know that the song might be shorter than the roller coaster, but a variety of shots of the roller coaster at different angles would have been nice. Near the end of the video, I thought there were a variety of shots of the coaster at different angles and positions. 7/10 Kevin Gillian’s “Opening Segment” This video felt like a trailer to a longer video. You know what, it works! I really enjoyed this video. The "danger" music synced up with the dangerous scenes in the video. I liked how the drums were synced with the song. I don't think I've seen a good POV of Star Tours like I saw in this video. The POVs at the end were really great. How did you get such smooth POVs on Gwazi? I must know your secret! I felt excited by this video so much that I asked at the end, "Where can I buy the DVD?" 10/10 Nicolas Chavance’s Parc Asterix I did take a short trip to France a few years ago. I visited Disneyland Paris, but I missed Parc Asterix because I didn't have time. After watching this video, I regretted missing the park. The video showed off different things at the park very well. I liked the shots of the friends enjoying the coasters. My favorite part of the video was when there was a POV of the wooden coaster. Then it went through a tunnel. When the coaster emerged from the tunnel, it was a reverse POV of the friends. Great editing! Overall, I liked this video. It's a strong, well done video. 9/10 Chris Charles’ PortAventura Halloween This video had an interesting choice of music -- "This is Halloween" from "The Nightmare Before Christmas." The music was in German (I think), no less! The video had a lot of interesting shots of the park's rides. I like how the video showed off the Halloween parade and other Halloween happenings in the park. The problem I had with the video was that there were too many day shots. When I think of Halloween, I don't think of the sun being out! I think of night time. I would have liked to have seen a lot more shots of the rides in the dark. There was the shot of the swings running in the dark. I wish there were more such shots. 8/10 Dave Madore & Tomi Zandshtein’s TPR Midwest Trip Before I saw this video, I thought that this week's videos were a strong, solid bunch. This week's videos were probably the strongest bunch I've seen so far. Then I saw this video. I do want to say something positive before anything else. The video did show off a variety of coasters that TPR rode during the Midwest trip. Now that's out of the way, let's talk about what I didn't like. The video began with a few POVs. The POVs were rather shaky and looked like they could qualify as the Rodney King video. I thought to myself, "Oh no, this is will be a video with shaky POVs!" Then the footage changed to offride footage. A lot of the sounds from the offride footage really drowned out the music. I thought a lot of the sounds were unnecessary and could have been muted. At some points, these sounds were so loud that I almost got a headache! Sometimes sounds went the other way and I could hardly hear them. People would say things and I could hardly hear what they were saying. I'm sure it was funny, but I kept on saying, "what?" when people would say something. Also, the animation at the end seemed like an inside joke that I was not privy to. Since I did not go on the Midwest Tour, I had no idea what the joke was or even if it should have been funny. Also, when did the TPR Midwest Tour go to Dollywood? I thought I saw a shot of the Tennessee Tornado in the video. Overall, although I felt the video showed off the coasters and had some nice shots, there were too many technical flaws in it. I felt it was like the editors sat down to their video editing software and used it for the first time on this video. Video editing takes time and practice. If I were running this contest, this video would not have made it as a finalist. 4/10 This week's ranking: 1.) Bruno Lancetti’s Expedition GeForce 7/10 2.) Kevin Gillian’s “Opening Segment” 10/10 3.) Nicolas Chavance’s Parc Asterix 9/10 4.) Chris Charles’ PortAventura Halloween 8/10 5.) Dave Madore & Tomi Zandshtein’s TPR Midwest Trip 4/10 Overall: 1.) Kevin Gillian’s “Opening Segment” 10/10 2.) JimmyBo’s PortAdventura 9/10 3.) Nicolas Chavance’s Parc Asterix 9/10 4.) Darren Bailey’s TPR Midwest Trip 9/10 5.) Cody Kempema’s Tatsu 9/10 6.) Dave Thomas’ UK Randomness 8/10 7.) Justin Saxe’s Dollywood/Six Flags Over Georgia 8/10 8.) Peter Davies’ Camping & Coasters 8/10 9.) Chris Charles’ PortAventura Halloween 8/10 10.) Adam Roth Theme Park Entry 2006 8/10 11.) Michael Moore mentioned AutoWorld in his movie, "Roger and Me." Here's a quote: "Autoworld closed due to a lack of visitors. I guess it was like expecting a million people a year to go to New Jersey to Chemicalworld, or a million people going to Valdez, Alaska for Exxonworld. Some people just don't like to celebrate human tragedy while on vacation."

I'm going to Orlando - And have some questions
BarryH replied to Woogle's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've been thinking about this thread and I think Robb's plan is the best. Not that I am sucking up to Robb, but he does bring up good points. I would suggest this plan: Sat.: Universal Studios Sun.: IOA Mon.: BGA Tues.: Sea World Universal Studios will be busy on Saturday, but not as busy as IOA. If you can arrive at USF at least 45 minutes before park opening, you might be let in early. You can do the major rides before the crowds come in. I would suggest doing these rides at USF at opening, in the order below: Revenge of the Mummy Jimmy Neutron Jaws MIB (if you want to ride together) Simpsons (if open) Nuthouse Coaster (if you want to credit whore) E.T. Then you can enjoy the shows and theater attractions. Out of the theater attractions, Shrek 4-D can get some big lines. I've seen the line hit 30 minutes. T2 used to get big lines, but I've never seen more than a 15-20 minute wait for it. Twister rarely has waits over 15 minutes. Disaster can have long waits, but the line tends to move fairly quickly. I would try doing the "A" ticket rides first. You should be finished by around 11 am. Enjoy a show or two. Have a nice lunch and enjoy some more shows or do rides that have short waits. Even do the single rider lines for Mummy and MIB if you want another ride like Twister or T2. Then after 3 or 4 pm, try to hit Shrek, Disaster, and anything else you missed before. As for IOA, it tends to be fairly quiet on a Sunday morning. I suppose everyone is either sleeping in or at church. You should be able to do a lap around IOA before noon. Then have a nice lunch and possibly re-ride your favorites. BGA should be pretty quiet on Monday. Sea World would be a nice park to end your vacation, as you can relax and not run around to ride things before the lines get long. -
I'm going to Orlando - And have some questions
BarryH replied to Woogle's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That would be Pternadon Flyers. They require a kid if you want to ride this. Short of kidnapping KidTums, you can ride Pternandon Flyers without a kid if you hit it first. At 9 am, most people are stuck at Marvel Super Hero Island. However, if you make a beeline to Pternandon Flyers, the Team Members will let you ride if the wait is very short, generally 0 minutes or less. I did this once and I was able to ride Pternandon Flyers two times because no one was in queue. Be aware, though, that in 30 minutes, the wait went to 20 minutes and kidless adults were not allowed to ride. -
I'm going to Orlando - And have some questions
BarryH replied to Woogle's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
IMHO, all parks in Orlando will have big crowds on Saturday. If you're going in two weeks, that means you're going on the week of May 4. The parks are pretty quiet during May, except for Memorial Day weekend. I usually suggest going to Sea World on Saturdays if you must. Sea World only has 3 big rides -- Kraken, Journey to Atlantis, and Wild Arctic --and some kiddie rides in Shamu's Happy Harbor. Most of the other attractions are walk-throughs, exhibits, and shows. If you arrive before 9 am, you can do a few rides on Kraken and Journey to Atlantis. I've never had a desire to ride Wild Arctic more than once. If you are a credit whore, you can ride the Shamu Express kiddie coaster too. I think you can get the big rides done before 11:00 am. Wild Arctic tends to have a slow-moving line, though. Journey to Atlantis has a line that can get very long, very fast. Usually, though, before 10 am, Journey to Atlantis generally has a 15 minute or less wait. Later in the day (particularly during a hot Florida summer day), the same line can be 60 minutes or more! Kraken's line tends to move rather quickly (if they are running 2 trains or more). I don't think I've waited more than 30 minutes for Kraken. Then you can spend the rest of the day looking at the fish or watching the shows. The shows can fill up fast (particularly Pets Ahoy and Believe), but if you arrive 15-20 minutes before, you can find a seat in the massive show stadiums. One tip for Sea World: do not visit Wild Arctic after a Believe show. Most guests will head towards Wild Arctic since it is the closest attraction to Shamu Stadium. The line tends to get very long, very quickly. The line moves slow as it is! Pick up a park map to see all the show times. As for Universal, you can do it on a Saturday and buy the Express pass. However, during your visit that week, the Express passes are at its lowest price of $25.99 for a 1 day/2 park pass. The rule of thumb is that the higher the Express pass, the more crowded the park is expected to be. I don't think you would need the Express pass unless you choose to visit on a Saturday. Then again, Saturday might not be crowded at all. You can buy the Express pass at the park if you really need it. During May, Busch Gardens is great to visit on a weekday. Every ride is generally a walk-on. Busch Gardens ride ops let you ride a second time if the regular wait is low or if there are open seats. You don't have to walk through the queue again. If you can't visit Busch Gardens on a weekday, I would go on a Sunday. The coasters tend to have low waits during the few hours of opening and a few hours before closing. In fact, I visited Busch Gardens last Sunday. I was able to do Montu, Kumba, the skyride, Scorpion, and Sheikra twice 2 hours before closing. Busch Gardens and Sea World do have a Fastpass system, sort of. You can take a guided tour and get front of the line access to the rides. This tour is pretty pricey. Last time I checked, it was around $50-$80 in addition to ticket prices. I did the guided tour at Busch Gardens' Howl-O-Scream Halloween event. I didn't think much of it because I felt like the group was being herded around like cattle. The tour guide didn't tell us where we were going or even gave a background on what we are riding. We just cattled around from attraction to attraction. BTW, speaking of tours, if you can swing it, do the VIP tour at Universal. It is pricey at $100 per person (not including park admission), but they really treat you like kings and queens. I think it's well worth the $. If you do this, ask for the tour guide named Chris C. She's one of the best tour guides at Universal. If you can avoid doing a park on Saturday, then please do so. Orlando has numerous other small attractions you can enjoy. Gatorland is pretty interesting and a good Saturday park. Also try Old Town (if not for the credits), Magical Midway, Fun Spot, the hotel pool, happy hour at the hotel bar, Erik Johnson's van, etc. -
Robb and Elissa...Why is your child's nickname "kidtums
BarryH replied to Rct3man777's topic in Ask Alvey
So it was I who coined the word "KidTums." I ought to ask for royalities. -
OK, here are my impressions of the videos from this round... Peter Davies’ Camping & Coasters This is a pretty interesting mix showing fun at camping and fun riding roller coasters. It gave some good shots of roller coasters. Some of them I had no familiarity since most of them were in Europe. Still, there were some great solid shots of the rides and coasters in the varied parks. I wish I could have seen more of the camping, like being chased by a bear or being attacked by Jason Voorhees. This video isn't outstanding, but it does a solid job. 8/10 Adam Roth Theme Park Entry 2006 I suppose we could subtitle this video "theme parks, mostly in Florida." This video had a pretty good mix of roller coasters and people having fun. I liked the POVs on Kraken, the Dania Beach Hurricane, the Python, and Dr. Doom's Fearfall. Some of the POVs were a bit shaky, but with the Python, I can overlook the shakiness. I would not want to see a POV of Gwazi! This video looks like a beginner's attempt and it is a good, solid attempt. 8/10 Matt Jacobs’ Indiana Beach I may be overusing this statement, but this video has a solid mix of the different fun things you can do at Indiana Beach. It looks like Matt Jacobs went on the TPR Midwest tour and I wished we could see some fun antics from the TPR Midwest tour participants. As for the different transitions, I generally don't like to use transitions beyond a dissolve and fade to black. A lot of people see all the transitions a video editing program uses and they tend to overuse it. I think the transitions used here were pretty effective. I liked the transition that he used when David Lee Roth said, "Change!" 7/10 Jordan Ryle’s Disneyland I'd like to start out my comments on this video with the positives. I liked the skinny guys doing the West Side Story snapping walk. I also liked the guys when they danced to the HSM 2 music. Overall, though, I thought this video was awful! The skinny guys said things during the video and I'm sure they were funny, but I could not hear what they said. The music overshadowed the guy's talking. Many times during the video, I was sayng to the screen, "What? What did he say?" The video could have showed off more of the Disneyland Resort in the midst of the skinny guys antics. I could have used less skinny guys and more DLR. If I were running the video contest, this video would not have made the cut. 3/10 Jan Andreen’s Europa Park The choice of the music in this video was interesting, but I don't think it fit the park. The video pacing didn't really seem to fit the music. The video gave a lot of good shots of the coasters and other neat stuff at Europa Park, but it doesn't really make me pack up and want to visit the park now. Still, it's a solid, if unremarkable, video. 7/10 The ranking for this round: 1.) Peter Davies’ Camping & Coasters 8/10 2.) Adam Roth Theme Park Entry 2006 8/10 3.) Matt Jacobs’ Indiana Beach 7/10 4.) Jan Andreen’s Europa Park 7/10 5.) Jordan Ryle’s Disneyland 3/10 Overall ranking so far: 1.) JimmyBo’s PortAdventura 9/10 2.) Darren Bailey’s TPR Midwest Trip 9/10 3.) Cody Kempema’s Tatsu 9/10 4.) Dave Thomas’ UK Randomness 8/10 5.) Justin Saxe’s Dollywood/Six Flags Over Georgia 8/10 6.) ...if your only pick-up line is, "Do you like roller coasters?" ...if you pick up a shell by the sea and you hear the sounds of a roller coaster rather than the sounds of the ocean. ...if your friends and co-workers say "You did what?" when you told them you rode roller coasters all day during your two-week vacation. -

I watched them all and here are my thoughts: Cody Kempema’s Tatsu When I saw this video, at first I thought it would be a boring video or would be a POV of Tastu. When I see videos of someone shooting one roller coaster, the video is usually longer than the ride itself. Most of the time, you see the same loop over and over again. Sometimes you'll see a POV stuck in the video for over a minute. This video, however, was entertaining. It was a solid video with great shots of Tastu. It does take a lot of time to shoot off-ride footage of coasters (believe me, I've done it) and Cody took a lot of time to shoot neat angles of Tatsu. 9/10 Matthew Tentnowski’s Six Flags Great Adventure When I first heard the music, I thought, "Oh no, it's that song again!" The Vagaboys' "We Like to Party" video has been used in too many videos about Six Flags parks. It's almost a cliche to hear that song in a video of a Six Flags park. The video did give a good overview of the park. However, technical aspects overshadowed the entire video. I found three glitches in the video. This could be due to a damaged tape or a bad video capture, but to see them in a video says to me the video editor didn't take the time to edit out the glitches to make a decent video. The audio from the guy talking at the beginning and the end was very hard to hear. I could not make out what he was saying at the end of the video. The park and crowd noise through the video was unnecessary to leave in and almost was a distraction. It could have been taken out. Can we please have a moratorium on using the Vagaboys' "We Like to Party" and Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Love Rollercoaster" in any roller coaster videos? These are two songs everyone seems to use. 4/10 Ryan Vesely’s Disneyland The opening with the logo and the fireworks were the best part of the video. The music selection was good. It seems like bubblegum pop music and Disney parks go together somehow. The video had great POVs of the various Disney coasters. The video was well edited with the music. I liked when the song said "rocket ride" and we saw the Golden Zephyr. I also liked when the song sang "revolution" and we saw a helix from the Mattherhorn. This video could be called "the roller coasters of Disneyland," but Disneyland is much more than roller coasters. I would have liked to have seen more Disney non-roller coaster rides. After seeing the 5th or 6th POV in the video, I thought, "Enough already! Can we see something else?" 7/10 JimmyBo’s PortAdventura This is a very fun video to watch! It made me sad that I missed the Spain trip and I wanted to visit Port Adventura now! It shows how much fun you can have on a TPR trip. I think this video showed more fun than Darren Bailey’s TPR Midwest Trip video. The editing kept in beat with the music. My favorite editing bit was when the still photos kept up with the beat of the music. It showed the variety of the park well. The video did have some jittery photos on the wooden coaster, but that could be because the coaster itself was jittery. My only big complaint about the video is that it seems too TPR-ish. That is, at first I thought R&E edited it. There's nothing really wrong with being a TPR video clone, but starting as a clone helps you develop your own style. This is my favorite video out of this bunch. 9/10 Justin Saxe’s Dollywood/Six Flags Over Georgia This is another solid video that shows off the variety of things in the park well. The camerawork was pretty good and there were some good edits in the beginning and the end. My only issue is that the video jumped from SFOG and Dollywood too many times. For a minute, we see SFOG, then we're at Dollywood, and now we're back at SFOG! I have been to both parks, so I know what they look like, but the causal viewer who have never been to either park may confuse SFOG for Dollywood and vice versa. There wasn't a set mark that separated the two parks. Perhaps half the video could be SOFG stuff and the other half Dollywood stuff. 8/10 The rankings for the videos in this round: 1.) JimmyBo’s PortAdventura 9/10 2.) Cody Kempema’s Tatsu 9/10 3.) Justin Saxe’s Dollywood/Six Flags Over Georgia 8/10 4.) Ryan Vesely’s Disneyland 7/10 5.) Matthew Tentnowski’s Six Flags Great Adventure 4/10 Overall: 1.) JimmyBo’s PortAdventura 9/10 2.) Darren Bailey’s TPR Midwest Trip 9/10 3.) Cody Kempema’s Tatsu 9/10 4.)
