I was to young for this place but can only imagine how awsome this place would be to experience if it would be still around these days From what i understand is that POP opend the same year as Disneyland and somehow it went to crap, which kinda sucks. Anyhow, i was bored on you tube and i came across this promotional video which is a throw back in time i thought would be nice to share

I remember when Psyclone first opend it was an amazing ride, actually my # 1 at the mountain!(Dont bash me on it) Man, the line for the ride went thru the line all the way up to the hill to roaring rapids. 2 1/2hour waits were not uncommon Memories... Ok, back on topic. I think SFMM usually anounces there season passes offer in november when we should also find out about the terminator coaster Btw, i have no problem with the name. You can theme anything, even a woodie. It's not like you are on the ride thinking " I dont think Terminator is a good name" while going down the first drop

Speed: The Ride in Las Vegas .... Closed?
alexinla replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The ride was build on purpose over the strip/sidewalk, the idea was that it would attract people to go inside the casino when it was an actual dump once you inside(but you would still probably play at least some slots while there) Now that it will become basically a Planet Hollywood(which i love btw), they dont need it anymore. I am sure some park will buy it as it is a good ride and sure can be marketed as a big new attraction. So they make some extra coin on it and we all now vegas casinos love there money! -

I am sure if you called costumer service at closing day for Geauga Lake they would have told you that they are looking forward to seeing you next year. If i run into any of the Sbe people i know this week, i will ask of course and report back on here. They probably just do Los Angeles/Hollywood stuff but of course it can not hurt to ask -
Speed: The Ride in Las Vegas .... Closed?

Why would they shut it down now to reopen in february? Dont think that would happen. The reason they would put a sign saying "closed for the season" is that the ride is still featured on adertisments they put out over the summer and people might come to ride, so this gets them off the hook somehow. The ride was not a big moneymaker, whenever I was there, nobody and i mean NOBODY was in line or even was going to purchase a ticket. They had sometimes 1 or 2 people on the ridewhen it launched. I know some SBE people as I work for nightclubs in Hollywood, i know there mentality and a rollercoaster is not on there mind to deal with the hassle to operate The only way the ride will survive there is if they would make it part of a nightclub. which would bring a unique twist to a club. But do you really want half drunk people on a coaster? Yeah, dont think so... Ride is doomed -
Did Jay Thomas not stated that the new coaster will not be in the old Psyclone Spot? If they get really creative, they could have the station by Deja Vu and take it thru the backroad passing roaring rapids all the way towards Viper. Obviousely i have no clue just thinking this would be the last time they could build a coaster along that side of the park with the road extension and housing coming to that area in the coming years, no way they would get that approved after these were build Edit: Of course i ment Jay Thomas

I do not think that some of you people understand that Vegas is going for a more upscale clientele, that's why the hotels probably look more generic to you who want theming and coasters. Hotels these days are looking for guests who will enjoy there spa, shop in pricy stores and eat in restaurants to only cap it off in one of the upscale nightclubs in addition on spending $in the Casino They make more money with one person like this then with a family of 5 who are looking for the 99 cent shrimp cocktail and $3.99 buffet The Sahara was bought by SBE which is a big event company in Los Angeles and are running some of the biggest, more upscale clubs in Hollywood/ They also own the Sofitel Hotel across from the beverly center, which was transformed with upscale designer restaurants e.t.c. I highly doubt a family rollercoaster is in there future plans for the Sahara. Hopefully it can be relocated, should be not to hard to do so -
We have the San Gennaro Feast/Fair this weekend in Hollywood. The food is soooo good!

It is only the middle of september, we here in so cal do not have to worry about inclement weather or snow like the rest of the country. They can easily build a wooden coaster in 4 months, we are not getting an El Toro. I just dont get the panic that the coaster has been canceled. This coaster probably is not as complicated to build like Tatsu for example, which was a major undertaking

The other parks have to anounce there atractions for 2009 early on as they want to sell season passes for next year. SFMM is open year round, no need to rush it. Jay Thomas is not a stupid person, he knows exactly what he is doing. They will make sure the new coaster will deliver. If it does not open by memorial day, it probably will open by the 4th of july weekend. Should not be a big deal. I rather wait 2 months to enjoy something for the next 10 years compared to some project that were rushed(look at scream!! and i actually love this ride!) Let them deal with it, they sure know more about logistics and how to build a actual coaster then any of us on this messageboard(RCT does not count, sorry, lol) I have total confidence in the SFMM management. So not really worried about not seeing "markers" Maybe they build it someplace we would least exect it(which is hopefully not the parking lot, lol)

What is your favorite Stand Up coaster?
alexinla replied to the ghost's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think there was a reason no stand up was build after Riddlers Revenge as it was the best, end of story. Qucik question, is Riddler to longest coaster at SFMM? Seems like it to me but could be wrong -

I think the strangest part is that people would actually get ON the ride when they see that some cable snapped, tangling from the towers. I would just say thanks but no thanks
