  1. You can kill two birds with one stone if you go to Anchor Bar. Get an order of hot wings, an order of spicy BBQ wings and a beef on weck for your crew and split them. I was pleasantly surprised that Anchor actually has really good beef on weck sandwiches. But if you're in Buffalo and don't give a crap about nostalgia, I would say f%ck Anchor Bar and go to ABV instead....they have some of the best burgers that I have ever had along with a great rotating craft draft list. ABV is about a half mile from Anchor on Allen St. ABV
  2. Answer I kinda like the western names that another poster mentioned like Double Down or The Gambler. I really hope that this conversion doesn't have "streak" in the name at all. To me, something like Iron Streak or Meaner Streak just sounds dumb with very little thought process going into it. This coaster looks like it's going to be epic so it needs something original and something that fits perfectly into the theming of Frontier Town. Double Down might remind me too much of that weird KFC sandwich and The Gambler might be too Kenny Rogers'ish....but I still like them a lot better than anything with "streak" in the name. Edit - Did some research via Google on 'western slang and phrases' and saw this one: 'Widow Maker' - A very bad or "outlaw" horse. Kinda goes with the Maverick name and theme - I like it!
  3. Thank you. I appreciate it! Thanks for posting...I agree with Bill that you do great work. Really enjoyed the video! Nice avatar too, by the way! I remember one of the first few years that Magnum was open (back when Camper Village went to the base of the lift hill) and there were employees that climbed the lift stairs after hours. It certainly sounded like they were ummm...dare I say, partying up there? All we could think was what if one of them fell to their deaths? My mother was aghast and wondering if we should have reported it, but the park was closed as well as the campground store. As much as I love coasters, I can't see myself ever wanting to climb that lift on Magnum or having to do an evac down the steps. I feel safe riding coasters, but I am still somewhat acrophobic - that's why I don't particularly care for Windseekers and avoid those Star Flyers like the plague!
  4. I see that Knoebels has two campground options with the further one offering shuttle service, which is cool. Tent camping is a thing of the past for us and I agree with others about staying as a group/family in a cabin - not happening. We have done shuttling from campgrounds to theme parks as a family in the past and it didn't end particularly well, so I certainly wouldn't agree to renting a house or cabin with other friends or family members. I love 'em all to death, but we all do our own thing and respect each others privacy when it comes to that - a valuable lesson learned from past experiences. Our idea of "roughing it" at a campground from here on out will be in the 36' motor home that we bought last year - with a tow hitch for our own car!
  5. I love pretzels and all, but my mind is still trying to process this post... WTF??? LOL
  6. Thanks for the response...I think that I can feel free to speak for a lot of enthusiasts on TPR when I ask that you please do keep up us updated on the progress - this sounds like one awesome project!
  7. ^ LOL...I think that you're onto something there. Oh, by the way..... CUDA F&CKING FALLS - DRINK!!!!!
  8. I'm so sorry for your loss, Bert...my sympathies to you and your family during this extremely difficult time. I know how hard it is to lose your own mother before you are close to being ready - so hard.
  9. ^^ I like the analogy! ^ I've been looking for some new music to order, so thanks for the tips!
  10. See? If Frontier City is getting something, then I'm sure Darien Lake will too. I hope that was you were being facetious, but it really would not surprise me if Darien Lake got something like Gully Washer. Water parks are insanely popular when the weather is nice and slide towers are a hell of a lot cheaper than a new ride or coaster. When we visited in August, we went on the Lazy River and GTFO after that because it was just wall to wall people. Ugh. But yeah, I'm also on board with them fixing up some things too. Coasterbill is right about the area around Twister - it's like you're walking through a part of Conneaut Lake...total dump area. Viper's queue & the ferris wheel (lights?) could also use some sprucing - as people have said. Bottom line is that they really don't need to invest tens of millions of dollars on a new coaster to make the park more enjoyable. Fix what they have first and then move towards new attractions in the coming years.
  11. Both are on a summer weekend so if it's nice, it's going to be very crowded. It doesn't matter if the kids are back in school or not...IT'S STILL A SUMMER WEEKEND! My advice - It's January...you have plenty of time to save for a Fast Lane Plus, so do that and pick whichever weekend you want to go and don't worry about whether it's crowded or not.
  12. Given the fact that there are so many decent chicken wing options available in Western NY, I would rather blow my cholesterol readings eating good wings than visit any of the chain chicken restaurants. I can't even remember the last time that I ate KFC...maybe when I was like 16?
  13. ^ Yay...another Mr. Bungle fan! I still need to pick up California...although I admit that Disco Volante was a bitter disappointment for me and my friends after their mind-blowing self-titled debut album.
  14. ^ Woo-hoo! I knew that you would answer given that you were just there, Larry...thanks for the info!
  15. ^^ Yeah, the amusement park is gone, but they do have stuff like mini-golf, a mini water park and a lot of cool retro arcades, shooting galleries and stuff like that. It's not quite all about partying....it's like a retro place from the 60's that hasn't been taken over by corporate America...yet.
  16. ^ I can't really think of any tips other than to seek out the discount tickets at Giant Eagle supermarkets in the Pittsburgh area...this will save you and your family some money. Just take your time & enjoy all of the unique coasters and attractions - it's a really fun old school type of amusement park with lots of modern thrills thrown in for good measure. Some people will say that it's a must to try the Potato Patch fries, but I found them to be somewhat overrated.
  17. Wow...this sounds like it's going to be a really awesome attraction! I would love to visit this park someday, although I would have to be at least a little buzzed to get the courage to ride that crazy looking Screamin' Swing over the canyon. Do they have a bar up there?
  18. I used to pop this cassette tape (believe it) in at parties when I was younger. Funky, weird, heavy, over-the-top immature sh%t from Mike Patton (Faith No More front-man)....now that I listen to it, I realize how awesome it really is. Love this song - it should be the TPR theme song, I think. LOL
  19. Cleveland's AHL team is the Monsters... Great Lakes Brewing also does an IPA called "Lake Erie Monster". The story is known around the region, although the name Bessie is more commonly used... I've heard of the legend of the Lake Erie Monster and have also visited Great Lakes Brewing a couple of times (and had Lake Erie Monster - yum)...I just never heard anyone call it "Lemmy" before. I also remember when they had a replica of the Lake Erie Monster in the river near Huron on Rt. 2 coming into Sandusky...anyone else remember that? I think that it's been gone for a while now, unfortunately. Let me tell y'all a little yarn about my first interaction with Lake Erie Monster... A few years back, we stayed at Geneva On The Lake, which is a touristy summer community just northeast of Cleveland on the lake. We were on a trip back from CP and just decided that this place looked too retro and cool to not check out, so we got a hotel right on the lake. The people that ran the hotel were all down on the beach partying and invited us to come down for a drink (which we of course did). They told us if we had ever "done the Lake Erie Monster challenge". Of course we laughed and asked what the hell they were talking about! Turns out that they have a Lake Erie Monster drinking challenge where you get a card and then have to have a drink at every bar on the strip (I think that there were 12 or 13). At each one, you got your card punched after you ordered a drink and then when you got all of them punched, you got a t-shirt that said that you conquered the Lake Erie Monster challenge. So we ended up getting pretty sh%t-faced that night and when we got up the next day, we realized that there were two bars that we never made it to! Troopers that we are, we visited those last two bars, had two beers at like noon, got our t-shirts and then headed home!
  20. Was checking out the Cedar Point Shores water park website and noticed that the new children's area is called Lemmy's Lagoon. It mentions that Lemmy is the name of Lake Erie's "legendary monster". Can't say that I have ever heard of Lemmy...other than this guy. Oh yeah, the swim up bar is now called "Muffleheads Beach Bar"....LOVE it! Edit: for all you drinkers out there, there is also going to be a new bar by the wave pool called Schooner's Bayside Bar. Loving the new look of Soak City already! "C'mon and check out my new water park...ya f-in' brats!"
  21. ^ Just don't be posting Melt photos in the Cedar Point thread anymore Mister, or there will be hell to pay for you (and me too, apparently)!!!
  22. ^^ I know what you are going through, Bert as you want to be there for every second, but there are certain things that are beyond your control. I left my mother's bedside at my father's advice to come home and get some much needed rest because I had been there the previous 36 hours straight. By the time I slept, showered and was getting ready to head back to the hospital, she passed and it crushed me for not being there. I know that this can't be a happy anniversary for you, but would still like to congratulate you and your husband on your first.
  23. ^ This concoction "might" even get Michael to eat brussel sprouts. Doubt it though...lol
  24. ^ Bert, I am SOOOOOO sorry to hear that about your mother. My sympathies are with you, your husband and family during this very difficult time. I lost my mother close to 14 years ago and it still hurts to this day...no one can replace ones mother. No one. You know if you need anything, let us know...we're here for you!
  25. Reminds me of Barefoot Landing or Broadway At The Beach in Myrtle Beach - but with an amusement park. Should be interesting to watch the progress!
