Playland/PNE (Vancouver) Discussion Thread
Philrad71 replied to Nrthwnd's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Now how did this one slip by me, Bill? I always like your reports on the annual exhibition. Cricket burger? Yeah, I would try that. Hot dog stuffed in a pickle? Definitely would try that! Poutine? OMG...they need more poutine in the states. I think that is one of the big reasons why Americans are so unhappy. Looks like some decent bands too - I could see myself chilling out listening to some ZZ and Huey while downing a few beers...both fun feel-good bands from the 70's and 80's. -
Exactly. I am sure that they knew that going in...and after watching the video that Bill linked, it definitely looks like the shittiest lazy river that I have ever seen. Personally, I love these types of lazy rivers. If I had one bitch, it would be that there is no float-up tiki bar where you could order a beer or drink while you lazily float around and just let all the cares in the world slip away. Have you visited the train wreck that is the Darien Lake thread?

Yes, that is exactly what Michael's brother did during the three days at Gettysburg - it was really cool. As far as Hershey, I will still hold out hope. Michael surprised me with Roger Waters concert tickets for my birthday last night (for the concert in Buffalo on the 9th), so we are finally getting to where he is healed enough from his six month stint in the hospital to where we can get out there and start having some fun again! I am certainly hoping that we can do a park this year, but that might be too much for him to handle at this point - we'll take it one day at a time though!

The Great Escape (TGE) Discussion Thread

This looks interesting. It will be nice to ride a Wipeout/Trabant style of ride without getting crushed or you crushing your ride partner. -
Looks like a great addition and I echo others that have stated the park needs more thrilling flats. I am not sure if I could do this one or not - it might be one of those rides where I just grab a beer and watch a few cycles. Although as others have mentioned, I will stay far enough away from the projectile vomit zone.

I was just telling Michael the other day that I would LOVE to do a weekend at Hershey this year, but alas...we are rapidly closing in on the end of the season. Where does the time go? Love looking at the reports and yours are very well written and presented, Andrew...thank you! As far as Gettysburg, you are right in that it's kind of a quirky place. Luckily, Michael's brother is a military historian and he took us on a three day tour of Gettysburg about ten years ago. He knew where everything happened, the order of events in which they took place...it was amazing, sad and surreal all at the same time.

Our 2017 Mega Coaster trip report.
Philrad71 replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I didn't quite "get" not having a path around the lake. I remember we kept thinking that there has to be some other way over to Shivering Timbers from the SLC around the lake - nope. Still love me some Shivering Timbers, but I echo what everyone else has already said - they need another signature attraction. -
I have been to Ghost Lake three times and despite the fact that I have heard that it is ran by a 3rd party, I would still recommend it and then buy some food/drinks at the park to support that side of things. Riding Blue Streak during snow showers at night several years ago was a crazy (albeit surreal) experience. And using several old abandoned zombie houses around the park premises made for very interesting haunts. It adds a bit more insecurity when you don't know if you're going to fall through the floor or stairs at any given time while walking through some of these houses!

Mountains, Moonshine and Coasters
Philrad71 replied to Jcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ I hear you. Me and a friend of mine got some wings in Erie a few months ago and while the sauce was very good, they breaded the wings, which I wasn't prepared for given the area in which we live. It was kind of like eating KFC wings dredged in hot sauce. It was okay, but it just didn't taste right. -
Mountains, Moonshine and Coasters
Philrad71 replied to Jcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Did you have them the traditional way or with the breading on them? Never been a fan of the breaded ones as they simply aren't as good as "naked" wings. I like the sounds of some of those wing sauces! -

Great report! There are a LOT more flavors of Smokey Mtn. moonshine than there was when we last went. My coworker and her husband went there in early July and came home with a jar or bottle of just about everything that they sold! I miss Dollywood and want to get back there someday soon. I agree with you about the Splash Battle - Michael and I had a blast on it when it was about 90 degrees outside. Great way to cool off and have fun while doing it! Not sure how we missed the brewery when we were there last time. I think it was because we were buzzed after the shine tasting and then went to Dick's Last Resort for an early dinner afterwards (which was a pretty fun place). We'll need to hit this up during our next visit to the area. -
OMG, Bill...I would so try every burger on that menu! The Serengeti and Cajun ones sound really good as does the Baja. I will have to check out the burger with the egg to see what my take is on it. I would love to be able to get Michael to try one of those because he needs all of the protein that he can get right now. Funny thing is that since his surgery and six month stint in the hospital, he doesn't care for burgers or anything with hamburger in it. So when I go to restaurants and see a good looking burger in the menu, I tend to go for it because I likely won't cook them for dinner anymore unless I cook him something else (which is a pain). Oh...and I would LOVE to have 3 Sushi places right near where I live!

Nice report! Nigloland looks like a beautiful park and the Mack "mega-lite" and the (crazily high) drop tower look like tons of fun! -
I can honestly say that I have never had a burger with an egg before. Last Sunday, Michael and I went to a local place called Guppy's. We were able to get a nice covered table outdoors and just "enjoy the peaceful day". What I didn't realize is that they have pretty awesome burgers. Here is their Chipotle Bacon Burger...and believe me, it was every bit as good as it looks! The crinkled steak fries were different - and cooked to perfection!

I agree...this looks like the addition that KD really needed to boost an already pretty damned good lineup into a seriously awesome lineup. -

They need to start stringing these announcements out a week or two in order to give my heart a chance to calm down - Jebus. -

Damn...I don't check in for a day or two and it's like a coastergasm around here! The new additions at the other parks all look great, but this...this is just over the top awesome looking! Holy balls am I happy that this is going to only be 3.5 hours from my house! Not that CP needed to win me over as one of my top amusement parks, but this definitely knocks it out of the park and into a whole new league of awesomeness in terms of coaster insanity. Well played, CP....well played. Wow. -
Robb & Elissa in the USA - 2017!
Philrad71 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
To be honest I am not familiar with the coaster well enough to notice that much of a difference from the last time I rode a few year ago. It seemed like it was running the best of the three woodies, however. Raven was running unfortunately pretty rough and I didn't ride Voyage this visit. I've never been a huge Voyage fan and after I heard comments like "I might need to go to the hospital" after one of our people rode, I felt it was best to skip it this time around! Personally my favorite three attractions at Holiday World are Raven, Mammoth, and Wildebeest. Even though Raven was not running as well as in previous visits, I did ride it multiple times (mostly in the very front though.) As soon as I saw the link to this report, my first thought was your opinion of Voyage this time around. A very wise decision to consider proper rib and spinal alignment versus coaster riding for the remainder of your trip. -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

^^ I wished that I could have tried it once in the front seat at night with the loop, but I agree that the layout was pretty awful. It was like they took the two final helices of the Beast and stretched them out for a couple of miles into this long, monotonous jackhammer-fest. -

Nice review, but sorry to hear another bad review of Blue Streak. I had a great front row ride on it last year. As far as the name Steel Vengeance, throw me in the camp that would prefer just Vengeance. If they do decide to go with Steel Vengeance, they at least will need to give some props and play some Judas Priest in the queue because this is a mix between their albums: 'Screaming For Vengeance' & 'British Steel'. -
