Disneyland Paris Questions
kevings replied to CoasterBill04's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I spent 4 days at the DLPR in April 2002, for the 10th Anniversary, just after the new Studios park opened. Being the big Disney park fans that we are, my friends and I tried several times to take a guided tour of the park. The park map says to inquire at City Hall, but the CMs there were no help, and no tours ever happened. We left our hotel room numbers (we were staying at the Hotel Santa Fe) and no one ever called. Wish I could tell you more. Kevin -

I just want to say, that even though I was here in Canada, it's nice to know that in some small way, I was a part of this trip. But the question remains, where is Kevin-on-a-stick now? I think we should see how many parks Kevin-on-a-stick can get to this season. Maybe he should come to Spain with us Julie! Kevin (not-on-a-stick) -

Best Theme Park Show You Have Seen.
kevings replied to methos's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I always loved the Hunchback of Notre Dame at Disney-MGM Studios. It's sad that the theater is being used for storage now. Festival of the Lion King at Animal Kingdom is another favourite. Mickey's Philharmagic is my favourite 3D show. And although there's lass and less of it as time goes on, the live entertainment in World Showcase at Epcot has always been great, especially the Living Statues in France, The World Showcase Players in UK, and Off Kilter in Canada. Julie's Epic WDW Ongoing Trip Report!
kevings replied to USRoadTripper's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I wanted to wait until you had posted the whole thing before I replied. Thanks for making this year's RADP trip one of my best ever. It was so much fun I didn't want it to end. And with your FANTASTIC trip report, it was like I got to experience all over again from the beginning. As much as I love Walt Disney World vacations, I love them THAT MUCH MORE when they are shared with great friends. Can't wait to do it all again real soon! Kevin -
Retro Photo TR: Disneyland/DCA 2001
kevings replied to USRoadTripper's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Can you believe that trip was almost 5 years ago? One lasting thing that came from that vacation is our now instant reply to people who push past us in queues trying to get to their families at the front of the line. After a whole day of this we had finally had enough and stopped a man who claimed his family was just about to board the Sun Wheel. We told him "If they love you, they'll wait." He didn't appreciate that. Neither did the cast members working the attraction who let him squeeze past dozens of guest who were following the rules and waiting patiently. And if you can't remember the number of times you rode Mr. Toad, how about the number of times you rode Superstar Limo? You and Richie really loved that ride for some strange reason... Kev -
There are very few foods I won't eat. The only things I go out of my way to avoid are canned peas and creamed corn. Fruit with the slightest bruise on it makes me queasy - brown bananas, soft apples - yuk! I love different ethnic foods, especially Japanese and Thai. Favourite veggie - cucumbers, favourite fruit - concord grapes. I'll try just about anything you put in front of me, as long as it isn't too spicy. Kevin

Photo TR - Rocky Horror Picture Show
kevings replied to USRoadTripper's topic in Random, Random, Random
You know that I would have been into it if I'd been there with you Julie. Sorry Rocky Horror was such a bust this year. At least your Halloween event wasn't cancelled like mine was. What am I gonna do with a Star Trek uniform now? Kevin -

I must have missed the part where Kevin drove down from Canada. Where are the photos? I think it would be fun to bring Kevin to the Canada exhibit at Epcot and see what he thinks. I had a girlfriend from Canada who visited that Epcot pavilion and she had a good laugh about it. She could not stop commented on how old the Canada movie was! Anyway, doesn't everyone like fried rice? Hello! I am the Kevin who drove from Canada to Florida. That was back in 1999 and trust me, I've been to Epcot many times since then. I like the pavilion, but the movie needs an update, stat. Those city skylines have changed an awful lot since the movie was made in 1982. Kevin, who likes fried rice with sweet and sour sauce on it. -
Got up early this morning (for a Sunday), picked up my friend Josh, and headed down the highway to the Ontario Science Center, where all summer there has been an exhibit called “Scream Machines: The Science of Roller Coasters”. We met our friend Lara and her son Rob and proceeded to have a good time at the museum. The exhibit was fairly small, but fun. The coolest exhibit was called G Force which showed how force plays on you body when you’re on rides. Basically it was a bicycle in a large vertical loop of track, attached to an axle, and counterweighted. After a small push, and some exhausting pedaling, it was possible to get going fast enough to make it all the way over the top. Rob and I tried, but neither of us were fit enough to get all the way around. I was close, but the bike lost traction when upside down. There was a revolving room, and a spinning floor, and a room full of strobe lights, but the only other exhibit worth mentioning was a “classic coaster simulator”. Basically, in a small, dark room was a screen, and what looked like a classic coaster train. While the screen showed a POV video of a coaster, the seats bumped up and down or tilted left or right. Josh and I “rode” the Comet (don’t ask me which one) and Lara and Rob “rode” Desperado. This was the cheesiest “ride” I’ve ever been on. The time for the Imax movie was coming up soon, so instead of heading into the main exhibit space of the museum, we checked out a pretty awesome coaster model, and the gift shop. Let me tell you that science museums sell the best stuff. The collection of giant plush microbes had us rolling with laughter. Who buys cute fuzzy ebola viruses, or athlete’s foot or hepatitis? The movie was “Ocean Men” about guys who free dive, which is going to crazy depths with only the air in their lungs. It was a good movie, but we sat in the second row, and with the curved Omnimax screen we got cricks in our necks straining to see the top. The rest of the museum was typical science center stuff. We saw the rainforest, how caves are made, amphibians and insects. The Science Arcade was full of exhibits that I remember from elementary school like hair standing on end, kinetic energy displays and sound waves, cool but in desperate need of an upgrade. The museum is undergoing a huge renovation and I don’t think I’d return until it’s complete. We left the Science Center about 3:30, went to Yorkdale Mall, had some lunch, did some shopping, then came home. All in all, a good day of having fun with friends and maybe learning something about science. Nah, I don’t think there was any learning going on. and an Owl Hat! The Black Death... Ebola... Hepatitis... Things to put on the shopping list... The Common Cold... Look how much fun Lara and Rob are having riding Desperado The rides that were "simluated" Kev on G Force SCREAM MACHINES

Famous coaster enthusiasts
kevings replied to flyby208's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I encountered a celebrity being back doored on to Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Disney-MGM Studios in December. I don't know if she's an "enthusiast" but I thought it was funny seeing Eartha Kitt surrounded by Mouse security entering throught the gift shop of the attraction Kevin -

I once got a fortune that read "The only thornless rise is friendship". Even if the typo had read rose like I think it should have, it doensn't make much sense. Kevin

How many times the same ride in a day ?
kevings replied to mingsai's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
While I don't generally do multiple rides in a single trip, there have been 2 notable exceptions. First was the last vacation I took with the family. We were at Opryland, and while my parents had some strange desire to see Crystal Gayle in concert I decided it would be a good time to ride Chaos - over and over and over and over. I probably did about 10 cycles on it. I wish that ride was still running somewhere. The other wasn't a coaster, but the Tomorrowland Transit Authority at the Magic Kingdom. Somebody (who shall remain nameless, but you know who you are, Julie ) organized an all day ride-a-thon as an event during the annual rec.arts.disney.parks meet. I only did about 32 loops, but those who got on when the park opened, and didn't get off until the park closed did over 50 laps. Kevin -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

One of my favourites, while standing in line for the Great Movie Ride at Disney-MGM Studios - "Is this a ride?" No, they just call it the Great Movie RIDE in the hopes that people will come in and walk through. Kevin -

While my mom makes an awesome meat pie, usually with ground beef and whatever leftover veggies she has in the fridge, the sweet pies are my favourite. If I had to list them in order, it would be #1 rhubarb, #2 raspberry and #3 butterscotch. Kevin

What is your favorite drop ride?
kevings replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not a huge fan of drop rides in general, but strangely my favourite ride ANYWHERE is Tower of Terror at Disney-MGM Studios. It must be the combination of theme and thrill that gets me. Kevin -

Julie's Vacation on a Stick Photo TR - Day 2
kevings replied to USRoadTripper's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I can vouch for this. I have never seen Julie more scared in the 6 years I've known her. She was shaking like a leaf and white as a ghost. I don't think she would have gotten on if I wasn't there for moral support. Kevin -
Julie's Vacation on a Stick Photo TR - Day 2
kevings replied to USRoadTripper's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Seeing as I'm the guy in all the pics with Julie, thought I'd post a reply. I don't remember what the name of that drum game was, but I can tell you that I drummed to a disco cover of "It's a Small World". I would have done better at the game if I had read the instructions and realized that an open circle meant hit the edge of the drum. If you're looking for the machine at Cedar Point, it's in the middle of the main arcade on the main midway. Top Thrill Dragster ran fairly consistantly both days I was in the park with one exception. I got there before Julie on Sunday, at park open, and TTD did not open with the rest of the park. In fact it was well after noon before I saw it running. After that though, I never saw the ride down at all. On the other hand, Wicked Twister didn't open at all on either day we were there, which didn't upset me much seeing as Steel Dragon at Geauga Lake really did a number on me the day before. Kevin
