^ I really liked the cars on the logo. - The colors on this logo are better. - I'm not a fan of the mirror image. I don't hate it, just not a fan. - I like the sideways URL, but if I had to choose, I'd put the other guy's red sideways URL on yours and see how it looks. Let me look at your two images back to back: #1: #2: #2 seems to fill up the empty space better and it's not busy or anything, but I think I like the text layout of #1 a little better. I have to say I think I like them both almost equally, which isn't a bad thing because I think they are both really good! But if I had to choose, I think I'd actually go with #1. --Robb

Actually this is a good point and something I hadn't thought about. It probably make the most sense for the actual name to be larger than the screen name. I realize you've probably put the name where it is because there are more character spaces there, but when one of our members goes to a park and hands them a card it probably looks a bit better to have "Joey Mandel" as the highlight name on the card instead of "JEW!" --Robb

Sean, it almost seems that you're trying to tack things on and it's still not working. The thing is, your design is perfectly fine, but it just doesnt's strike me as "TPR" and I can't tell you why. What I would suggest is maybe seeing if you have another idea you want to try. The concept isn't flawed, it just doesn't fit TPR. That's at least my opinion of it. --Robb

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not sure where the bad rap of Intamin coasters not opening on time came from. Sure, some of the larger, pushing the envelope or prototype coasters have had issues, but even some of the bigger rides, like TTD, KK, and Millennium Force actually opened on time I thought. I mean, looking at the list of Intamin coasters - - The Mine Train at Happy Valley Shanghai was late - but was this because of Intamin or the park? When we were there that entire area didn't look done. - Inferno at Terra Mitica may have had some delays, but I'm not sure when the actual opening date was supposed to be. - Maverick had obvious delays. - Did Furius Baco open on time? I had thought it did, but had some issues. But yeah, from what I can tell, other than those listed above: Mega-Lite, iSpeed, Tele2 Insane, Tornado, Fly Over Mediterranean, Senzafiato, Jet Rescue, Fahrenheit, Piraten, Voodoo, Avatar Airbender, T Express, Kawasemi, Mick Doohan's Motocoaster, Furius Baco, Desert Race, Kirnu, Surfrider, El Toro, Zaturn, Speed Monster, Stealth, 10 Inversion Roller Coaster, Flight of the Phoenix, Superman Escape, Skycar, Kingda Ka, Kanonen, Rita - Queen of Speed, Galaxy Express 999, Half Pipe, Storm Runner, Atlantis Adventure, Supersonic Odyssey, Steel Venom, Top Thrill Dragster, Thunder Dolphin, Balder, Xcelerator, Avalancha, Wicked Twister, Goliath, Colossus, Expedition GeForce, V2: Vertical Velocity, Vertical Velocity, Tornado, Colossos, Elf, California Screamin', Millennium Force, and both Superman - Ride Of Steel... All opened without any significant delays, at least that I'm aware of. And that takes us back to the start of last decade worth of Intamin coasters. Sure, some of them might have had mechanical problems that needed ironing out (some of the major) but still, I don't remember any huge delays. That's a lot of rides to open in 10 years and I feel that's a pretty good track record! --Robb -
^ Godzilla, a peice of toast and a talking cat? I honestly don't know. I'm not an artist, which is why I'm asking for input, but you can go off my feedback on yours and other designs that have been submitted and see if you can find something that resonates with us. That's part of the challenge of this whole thing. You may find that lots of people love your design, but it needs to click with us. I can't really tell you why one thing works for me when others don't. It's just a like/dislike totally subjective thing. --Robb

^ William, that one is really nice. There are things I like about it and things I'm not as crazy about, but I'm not sure if there is anything I don't like. - I like the Club TPR logo. The little coaster car is a nice touch! - I like the background particles (the squares) - I'm not crazy about the coaster (might most be too much coaster in this one) - I'm on the fence about it being all mostly black/gray. And I say on the fence because black/gray is my favorite color (how often do you see me in a shirt that's NOT black) and I like things that have a lot of black or gray because it makes colors stand out better. Perhaps if the Club TPR logo was less washed out? Overall, I really like this one and I'm anxious to see some of your other ideas in the hopper.

Some quick thoughts... Calaway Park - It's "friendly" yes, but to me it's still not "fun." I see the mountains, valleys, and a sun coming up over them. Like a refreshing morning with a cup of coffee in my hand. It's nice, but it's just not "TPR" DKR - Not of a fan of the Club TPR logo. Looks more like a bulls eye. The Club TPR logo doesn't need to be complex. It should be simple and streamlined. The rest of it is "ok" but there isn't much of a style to it. J. Marcase - Nice, streamlined. I like the red URL on the side, that's cool. I also like yout take on the Club TPR logo. Overall the card reads well, has a bit of style to it, but it's kind of "empty." Not saying it needs to be busy, but it does seem a little empty. Many of the cards seem to have some style to the logo and some other elements, but when it comes to the text, it looks like it was copied and pasted out of an MS Word Document. What seems to set n7's entry apart so far is that everything seems to have a sense of style to it. Even the text using a very basic font seems to have style just by the placement of the text. It's not busy and it's not empty. There is a lot of good ideas here and to some of you I would even say don't keep refining the same idea, but try something new. You may find that Elissa and I will be all "I like this element from design A and this from design B." --Robb "I feel like one of those judges on Top Chef!" Alvey

^^ No, sorry. We really like Gadzoox and have no plans to change it. Rebranding TPR would take a lot more bandwidth than I have available. I mean right now on my plate I have: - Managing day to day of the forum - Coaster Expedition Volume 13 - Roller Coasters in the RAW Blu-Ray - Dark Rides in the RAW DVD - Roller Coasters in the RAW Volume 5 - Contacting parks for Club TPR Involvement - Getting Club TPR going - Park Index 2 - TPR iPhone App - Photo DVDs for LAST year's trips - Sorting out the following events: West Coast Bash, Bay Area Bash, MidWest Bash, East Coast Bash, UK Bash - Finalizing plans with about 60 differnet parks for all of our tours this year. - Converting the current forum to phpbb3 - My day job! - My family! - I'm SURE there are things I'm forgetting! So yeah, "Re-Branding TPR" is not in the current plans! --Robb

^ Oh man! There I things I really like about it! The donkey character is very "cute!" Not sure we'd use it for the card, but I may look into having you help with a "return of the donkey" shirt! The fonts for the member information looks very "generic" but I think that could be worked on. Layout wise it's good. It reads good. And has both practical and fun elements to it. I think I might post a few fonts for people to look into using when I get home from work tonight. It's a great first submission, though! --Robb

Sean, my first impressions are that it's clean, streamlined, good use of the site's colors, the text reads well, and would pass as "professional" but I don't think quite says "fun." It looks more like something I'd see from a bank card, which is a compliment of sorts, but it's not *quite* TPR. It sorta reminds me of this: --Robb

^ Except, that's not really "less" if anything, almost every area of space has "something" in it. To me it looks very busy. Another comment, I see you have a picture of me and Elissa added. I will absoultely not use any image that includes us in it as TPR is about the community and the group. Sure, Elissa and I started it and run it, but it's not about just us. --Robb

Hey everyone, I am researching a new dedicated server hosting company for TPR. Can you please let me know if you are aware of any companies with a good track record? We are looking for a dedicated server (NOT a shared hosting company) that is fully managed by the server company. The server would need to be very high end as far as system specs go with a lot of bandwidth covered (about 2-3tb per month) with about 1tb of hard drive storage. Please let me know if you have any suggestions! Thank you! --Robb

This issue being discussed isn't whether or not the pre-show is a good idea but that they keep allowing seats to go out empty 8 months after the ride has opened. I would have thought that something more proactive would be done to increase the capacity of the ride so that's not still happening. Again using other rides as an example, most coasters or thrill rides that have a pre-show also have a post-preshow queue area to ensure that ride vehicles aren't being sent empty. Based on how many people are in that post-show queue area they can alter the number of people being put into a pre-show room. I've been in the library room of Tower with as few as 10 people and as many as what seemed like 100! And sometimes the lower count library room opens up to a very backed up boiler room and the larger sized library rooms sometimes opens up to a near empty boiler. That area from the last pre-show room to the station of Terminator is the only "post show" queue they have. And IMO, that area should always be filled with people. Far too often I have walked right up those stairs into an empty station. And if the train coming in was totally full and the station gates were able to fill that train, that's fine. But in my experience that's rarely what happens. Even on some of the slowest days at WDW they seem to have the queue system down to where there is always some people in the boiler room of Tower or the limo waiting area of Coaster to fill an entire train. And even in the very, very, VERY rare chance that you'd walk up to a Rock N Roller coaster train in the station with empty seats, the pre-show you sat through was only about 60 seconds, or if you're at Disney Paris, about 10 seconds! Here's an idea SFMM - if you really are hell bent on having everyone watch the pre-show during slow periods, have them just watch the first room pre-show. You really "get" the story from there, and just let them walk through the other two rooms. It's still impressive, you still get the story, and you're increasing the capacity of the ride instead of sending empty seats. --Robb "Maybe there is a reason a coaster pre-show of this length hasn't been done before?" More feedback.... vuurvogel - We would not be able to go with a color front and back. Not sure if I didn't make that clear in the initial instructions, but we are looking for everything to be on one side. The membership part of it covers everything we need and the artwork on the front is funny, but I have to be honest it looks very "amateur." I appreciate the effort, but it doesn't come across as "professional" to me. n7 - My favorite so far. I'd like to see the card image straight on though instead of posted in that 3/4 view. I like the overall design of the card. Great use of the colors and graphics. Not over designed. Very simply. It really works. I like that the URL is in the shadows, but I think I might also like it see how it would look in white at the bottom of the card in addition to where you have it now. What font did you use for the word "membership?" I really like it. Chroniq - No offense, but please no "joke entries", that's not what this contest is about and I don't want other people thinking that joke entries are acceptable. I've actually deleted your post so others don't get the wrong idea. aljh22 - Please read the other feedback I've given. It's not called "TPR Club" and you're not using the correct font. Having said that though, it's a nice effort. Keep working on it. Are the dimensions correct? It appears a bit wide to me.

^^ Actually, I think I know what you are saying now. Yeah, it depends on how many members we think we are going to get or if we decide to change the card after a year, for example, but yeah, if we were going to order pre-printed generic cards as our "card stock" and then only print the names and other info in B/W on the card that might be an option and we are looking into all options right now.
