Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread
robbalvey replied to DenDen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I couldn't disagree with you more and that's a really backwards way of thinking. Many parks have done quite well with their season pass program. From what I've heard thus far, they do not seem to be following suit with what Six Flags does by "buying a day, getting a year for free." And even some parks that do, like Sea World San Diego and Busch Gardens Tampa have great success with their programs. I really think you should be giving this a chance before you condemn the program to hell. Really, how many parks DO NOT offer Season Passes? --Robb -

^ Exactly, and I never said that a roller coaster wouldn't be involved with the logo, but I didn't want to be the only focus of everyone's card. Hence the reason why I wanted another ride element, like the drop tower on the card. --Robb -

^ Yes, that is also right (I forgot about that) the URL at the bottom did come from Gumball's card. --Robb "Sorry for not giving credit where it's due!" Alvey -

^ Pretty much. The drop tower and coaster I don't think were actually Gumball's art, but it was certainly inspired by what he did. And to be honest, had n7 not dropped off the forum (he hasn't logged in since Jan 8th) we might have considered his a bit more as we all really liked it! But I do need someone to help out that we know we can rely on. I at least know jcrouse a bit more personally as he's been on a trip with us and met up with us before at parks. And those are all things we had to take into consideration. --Robb -

^ Yeah. I'm not fond of that either. I think I'd like to have an option where the line extends the entire length of the page like it is on the current forum, but the style only has an option for the line to extend the length of the post text or the length of the user's profile box. Unless Hanno can find a fairly easy solution it might just be something we have to get used to, or at least go live with for now and then figure out a solution later. --Robb -

^ Not sure if we'll want to put cards and everything in WCB packets because there will already be enough work to do for those packets that I'm not sure I want to confuse things any more. We WILL have the ability to register for Club TPR at WCB though! --Robb -

I know Hanno has already addressed this, but I wanted to add my comments as well.... I have put off doing the switch over to the new version of the forum for a very long time because I personally HATE change! Especially "change for the sake of change" and in this case we really had no choice. The company that wrote the forum software stopped supporting the old forum (our current version) in Feb of 2009 so at some point we were going to HAVE to switch over to the new upgrade. I've been spending a lot of time with Hanno and Wes going through the process to make the new forum look as close as possible to the old forum. There are going to be some differences though, as well as quite a few improvements, and I think there will also be a few things that we'll just have to get used to. It's not possible to run both templates at the same time because they are actually both very different structures and use a different database set up. So having an option to use the old style is just not possible. As much as I would like to offer it (and personally use it myself), it's just not possible. --Robb -

robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ I'm going to shoot for March 1st. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done and we're just putting together all the pieces now. We needed the card design early because we'll still need to get them printed, get the final card printer here in our offices, send out copies of them to parks, etc, etc... There will also need software to be developed for everyone to register, have an account on the store with credit, build our electronic magazine (we're looking for volunteers with experience in layout and design!) and many other things. It's all coming together, but it will still be a few more weeks. --Robb -

^^ & ^^^ Screen shots and browser information, please! This really helps us a lot so we can see what you are seeing! No, sorry. I love the smilies and they are based off of one of my favorite video games - Taiko No Tatsujin. They were custom made for TPR and they will not be changed! They are very "TPR!" What about the forums are clumsy? Please explain. See, comments like these aren't useful to us at all. You can't just make a very general comment and then expect us to be able to read your mind and fix what you don't like. You need to tell us what it is you don't like and then FOLLOW UP WITH EXAMPLES so we can better understand what the problem is you are having. We want to make the forum and the site better, but comments like "the forums are clumsy" don't help us improve the site at all. --Robb -
Legoland Florida Discussion Thread
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If they were to do something like make a couple lanes "express" lanes or something, almost how the Jersey Turnpike is for part of it or the express lanes on I-91 here in So Cal that goes to Riverside County, that would help a lot. Of course I know nothing about road works projects and can only make suggestions based on what I've seen other places. The biggest issue, IMO, getting out to Cypress Gardens is all those little towns with stoplights you have to go through. It's like having to get to Kennywood from the I-376 Swissvale Exit, but instead of it being 3.6 miles of that crap, it's 22 miles. Anyone who has driven to Kennywood knows exactly what I'm talking about. Right. But most of the tourists that will flock to the area will only know of I-4 and how insanely easy it is to get to Disney, Universal, and Sea World from that interstate. Your comparison is moot unless the park assumes that only Florida locals will be visiting Legoland. --Robb -

Also, everyone should keep in mind that we are trying to make the upgraded forum look very similar to the current one, but with new systems and new templates it won't be possible to make it look *exactly* the same. There will be some new things we will all have to get used to. --Robb -

Gotcha. We could try to work in the gradient, but probably not the white bar. It never even stood out to me as a problem. Do other people agree that this is a big issue or is it just a minor nitpick that most people wouldn't notice? Hanno, how hard would this be to change? --Robb
