First onride Video of Kanonen
robbalvey replied to Shadowforce's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I saw this POV of the ride that didn't require any special codec: http://granat.es.lth.se/~olofsrnm/nyrc/rchq.php?page=coasters&id=1013 --Robb -
^ Even though I had to work there a couple of times in the late 80s, I don't have any connections...sorry! --Robb

Most Travelled Coasters (Still Operating)
robbalvey replied to downunder's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This one seemed to have traveled a lot before it met it's doom: http://www.rcdb.com/id345.htm And so has this shuttle loop (I rode this one at Alton Towers) http://www.rcdb.com/id1152.htm Here's another Schwartzkopf that's been around the block: http://www.rcdb.com/id2374.htm Even one of Six Flags Magic Mountain's coasters has moved around a bit: http://www.rcdb.com/id1142.htm I'm sure there must be other that have been relocated at least 3 or 4 times. --Robb -

The most rare coaster credits
robbalvey replied to Stitch's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, I mean, it's kind of hard to define what is "rare." Certainly I guess any coaster that is now defunct could be consider rare, but honestly, coasters close every year, and thousands have been closed and torn down over time. What makes one closed coaster more rare than the other? And some of those are simply byeond my point of caring because of time. I guess I would consider someone who's ridden Idora's coasters as "rare" simply because of how long they have been closed and because of the fact that I *could* have ridden it in my lifetime. But I wouldn't consider someone who's ridden the Crystal Beach Cyclone as "rare" because I couldn't even imagine going on it since it's been closed LONG before I was even born. I guess you can call "hard to get to" coasters could be rare since most people that would come on these boards might not get to them very often. But just because one of us might not be willing to travel to Kuwait for a Batman clone doesn't mean that ride doesn't see thousands of riders every week, so why would that coaster be rare? To be honest, I've never really thought about it! I just go on the coasters that interest me. I don't really go out of my way for a coaster I don't care about that is either A. Doomed to close or B. Too far away. For example, I have just heard that Festival Gate in Japan has closed for good, but I didn't really consider the fact that we just rode that coaster last year as "rare." Just something that happened in the natural life cycle of many parks and coasters. --Robb -

Just a question to those of you who have downloaded the video. Are you having any problems with the sound? And if so, what kind of system are you running? -

Hey there! For those of you who haven't gotten our latest DVD, I have just posted another segment from our Japan trip, Nara Dreamland! There is just so many things wrong with this bizarre park that you have to see the video to believe it! First it looks JUST like Disneyland, then it looks like a scary parking lot carnival. Which is it??! I'm confused! Of course, oddly enough it is home to one of the best wooden roller coasters, Aska. Strange, yes...but it's true! Be on the lookout for the "Random Fish!" http://www.themeparkreview.com/videos/video.htm --Robb "BTW, I hope you guys like the new organization of the video downloads page." Alvey

^ But the one weird thing is that SFA's SROS seems to also run a LOT better than SFDL's....at least the last time I was on SFA's back in 2002. I have no idea why...but it does seem that way. --Robb -
^^ Yes, that is correct! --Robb

So if you are coming, or even think you are a 'maybe' at this point, email us at robbalvey@themeparkreview.com and let us know. Like anything else, a great amount of people seem to wait unti last minute! --Robb -
