Hey everyone, Again I am having some internet trouble as the inroom wifi is down at the Liseberg hotel. Since our last update, we have been to Farup, TusenFryd, and an evening at Liseberg. For now I will post the Farup photos and we will do an update for the other parks later. Day Four: Farup Sommerland or “The Knoebel’s of Europe!” I don’t even know where to begin here….this place was incredible! Let me first say that if you’re looking for a park with 200 foot hyper coasters and nothing but thrills, Farup isn’t going be your thing, but if you want a park that is nothing but wall to wall fun, great coasters, some of the coolest non-coaster attractions we’ve ever seen in a very relaxing, family atmosphere, this is your place! Why do we call it the “Knoebel’s of Europe?” It’s simple, if you know what makes Knoebel’s one of the best parks in America, then it’s the same things that make Farup one of the best parks we’ve visited in Europe. Let’s draw some comparisons here: They both have: - A good wooden out and back coaster - Awesome pizza! - VERY efficient operations (Falken dispatched in seconds!) - The parking lot is PACKED when you get there, yet the lines for the rides are very light. - Campground and picnic areas within and near the park. - “Hassle-Free” environment. - Lots of “play areas” - Friendly staff - Waterpark slides within the park. - The park has a gorgeous setting full of trees. - The park is in the middle of nowhere and on the entire road trip there you ask yourself “Are you SURE there is an amusement park around here?” and then when you get there, there is a million people there! Anyway, so let’s talk about Falken for a moment. We didn’t know what to expect from this medium-sized L-shaped out and back woodie. It’s an S&S/Arrow wooden coaster with the new style 3-bench Gerstlauer trains. The ride was GREAT! It’s not the tallest, not the fastest, but it doesn’t need to be. In fact, this coaster reminded me a LOT of Timber Terror at Silverwood, and that coaster has been on my favorites list ever since it opened. There was airtime on every hill, a cool little tunnel going into the turnaround, and although there was a bit of a shuffle in the helix, that didn’t detract from an overall great coaster. And with only a 42” height restriction, it meant that families could all ride together. The other two coasters in the parks collection was a Reverchon Crazy Mouse (which Elissa LOVED because we were able to get it to spin a A LOT!) And a large model Vekoma Roller Skater (same model as Cedar Point and Islands of Adventure) But the best thing about this park wasn’t the coasters and it wasn’t even the rides! It was all the ‘play areas’ which, in a US park wouldn’t exist thanks to the sue-happy American attitude. There are trampolines everywhere! Tons of areas where you can bounce around, climb, run, and have a great time. But most of these aren’t your normal trampoline like you’d see in a backyard, this is bigger “park stuff.” You’ll have to see the photos to see what I’m talking about. Then there is the Obstacle Course. At first glance this looked very basic, something we’d thought we’d run through in about 15 minutes. And then about 15 minutes into it, we realized this course would challenge most Survivor contestants! Everything from huge mazes to monkey bars that go over a river…the same river where the paddle boats drive through, and if you can’t make it across…YOU FALL IN!!! :o There were tons of slides, nets, a really awesome zip line, and even two areas where you had to pull your group across a lake on a raft using a rope! It was awesome! On top of all that the park was really awesome to us letting us get as much footage we needed, even from the top of Falken’s lift hill while the ride was cycling. Needless to say, we had an incredible day here and we highly recommend this park if you are planning any Europe trips anytime soon. Oh, and if not for the parks in Denmark, do it for all the hot chicks! Joey keeps saying “I swear this place breeds super models!” He should know as one of the hot chicks in the obstacle course called him “Chicken” for not doing the monkey bars over the water! Now onto a few photos from today… The tunnel reminded me a lot of "Tremors" While it was cool taking pics of the coaster, I'm kind of wondering what that seductive look from the girl in the front seat was for! She must have been looking at Dan! They even let us take turns dispatching trains! Here we are on the lift! The view from the lifthill was amazing! This coaster reminds me a LOT of Silverwood's Timber Terror. I LOVE EUROPE!!!! And don't forget about the Crazy Mouse. (Dan and I got it to spin a LOT!! Elissa loved that!) Now back to the coasters....did we mention that Falken was great? So she goes one more time just to show him up! All Dan can think is "I Love Denmark!!!!" ...this is as far as he got! So that girl proceeded to make "chicken" noises at him!!!! LOL! This was the best thing of the trip! A hot danish chick making fun of Joey!!! Joey sees this girl take on the monkey bars over the lake with EASE. So to try to show how much of a man he is, he gives it a try.... Timing is critical because these DO actually sink! Time to ride the zipline. ...Don't fall Elissa!!! ...we have to pull ourselves across the lake... There are lots of mazes and caves... Here we are going into the obstacle course. "This should be easy!" we think....um....we were wrong! And this is why it would not be allowed in America! We called this the "bouncy thing of death!" (note that both Elissa and Joey are in the air thanks to my bounce!) We told you there were a lot of things to bounce on at this park! -

Crappy ferry port service died before I could finish the TR! Here's the rest of the photos: Splash Battle! This cool little ride, much like Roller Soaker where EVERYONE around the ride gets wet! In the petting zoo they had strange animals only found in Holland, like this "Poodle Llama!" Here is the human powered "Pull the non-attended raft across the lake using only a rope" ride! This was awesome! Never in American would you see this! Another group phgto! "Non-German Tom" wins the award for longest traveled as he flew from the UK for the meet! Thanks again to everyone who showed up. We finally found McDonalds! Just outside of Hamburg Germany and what does Elissa order? A Hamburger of course! Paying homage to Pulp Fiction, Dan orders a "Royale with Cheese!" -

Day Four: Walibi World Hey everyone! I'm going to have to make this Trip Report a little shorter than normal as I'm sitting in the Hirshtals Ferry Port and I'm not sure how long I can get a wi-fi connection for! Here are the highlights from our day at Walibi World: - Meeting up with at least 20 different people! Wow! We had no idea there were this many Europeans that were bored enough to read our site so much!!! It was really awesome meeting up with all of you and thanks for putting up with us and our American behavior! You guys showing us around and helping us out made a great day even better! - Goliath still kicks ass! In fact, I think it's actually better than I remembered it. When we were here in 2002, we remembered it being not so good in the back, but GREAT in the front. This trip is was GREAT in either the front or the back (allthough I think I still prefered the ejector air in the front) - Robin Hood ALSO still good! We really feared the Vekoma woodies wouldn't hold up. But both this and Loup Garou are holding up better than most CCI woodies. - Splash Battle - What a wacky looking ride! Imagine something like Roller Soaker, but not a coaster. Looked like a lot of fun. - First Ever SLC - Dan and Joey got to ride the first ever SLC and we still ask "They made MORE of them after this one?!?!" - Crowds, or lack thereof. We really feared that Saturday at this park would be PACKED. We were expecting hour long lines and Tom even quoted us from the day before "If we can get two rides on Goliath, we'll be happy." I'd like to report that we got something like 7 or 8, and we could have even gotten more! Lines were non-existant for the first two hours of the day, and no more than 15 minutes for the remainder. Overall, we really had a fantastic day at this park. Ok, now onto some photos!!! Joey was happy to see that "Wok", the non-politically correct, stereotypical, highly offensive chinese dragon character had his own coaster here at Walibi World! Dan & Joey pay homage to our first European Coaster Odyssey. Tom, one of the guys from www.onride.de who met up with us was smart! Why? Because he DIDN'T ride the first ever SLC! The park is nice enough to let you know how many trains they are running...today was TWO! Robin Hood, the Vekoma woodie, still holding up better than most CCI woodies. At least 20 people showed up to meet us today! Here's our first group photo. Robb & Joachim have fun in the front seat. (woo-hoo!) Yeah, this ride still kicks a lot of ass! Elissa takes a ride with Tom, Eric, and Rainer! Ahh, the real reason we were here, Goliath! A mid-sized Intamin hyper coaster. The new entrance to Walibi World. Goodbye Six Flags and hello Kangaroos! As you can see...I was impressed with Wok's coaster also! -

Hey everyone! Our Busch Gardens SheiKra video is now available for EVERYONE to download! I hope the members appreciated being able to get a sneak preview of it, but now if you click here, guests can download the video too: http://www.themeparkreview.com/videos/video.htm --Robb "Enjoy!" Alvey -
One more thing, if the forum is running slow, can you also try to note how long it takes from the time you click on a thread or topic to when the page actually pops up. On my old host it used to be 5 seconds or less, usually within 1 second, lately I've gotten pages that take 10 to 20 seconds to load. Please let me know! --Robb "Thanks for your help!" Alvey
-
And if we didn't sell the videos, how could we afford to keep the site up and running? It's all about the circle of life! Seriously, though, we put up quite a few segments every year, and yes while they are 'teasers' for the DVDs, it's still quite a lot of video content to download. I think at the moment we have more than two hours worth of downloadable coaster videos, not a small amount by any means! If you like our downloable videos, why not get the DVDs? Keep in mind that our collection of DVDs contain something like 15 hours total of coaster videos! And yes, to answer the question, we have done 5 SFMM segments across all our DVDs over the years. --Robb "Thanks to all those who have supported us over the years and helped us keep the site going!" ^^ Michael! How the hell are you??? I thought you had dropped off the face of the earth! I met up with Kevin and Wayne a couple of years ago at Thorpe, but no UK on this trip for us. We *will* be in the UK next year, though, and we'll have to arrange a group meeting! Keep in touch, drop me an email, and if you are ever stateside, please let us know! --Robb "Good to hear from you again!" Alvey -
So far the internet connections have been GREAT, but I've also been spending that time posting the TRs and photos. The other problem is that when it's about the time I'm online here, not much traffic is in the chat room. The chat seems to be busy between 4pm - 8pm California time, which is like 1am here, and we're already asleep. Oh, well....if there is anyone in chat the next few days around 11am, I might jump in! --Robb

It's been running slow for me for a while now too. the number of users shouldn't have anything to do with it. Other PHPbb boards have tens of thousands of users and they are lightning fast. I'm going to see of my host can do anything about it, and if not, I'm going to once again look for another host. But after we get back from Europe, we WILL fix the boards!!! --Robb "Thanks again for all your support." Alvey

Hello everyone! This is day two of our big Europe trip and today we were at “Bobbajaanland.” Of course, we had been pronouncing this park “Bob-a-jan-land” all week, and finally we were told today by both Ghost and Tom, two TPR readers that met up with us, that the correct pronunciation was actually “boba-yawn-land.” This place certainly was NOT a “yawn” in fact this park was AWESOME! We really didn’t know what to expect coming here, and at one point we considered trying to do this park and Walibi Belgium in one day because they only had a few coasters. I’m glad we decided against that because Bobbajaanland is a LOT more than just the coasters. This is one of those parks that is so much more than their collection of coasters. They had great flat rides, great water rides, fantastic landscaping, and un-forgettable dark ride (more on that later!) and everything we did turned out to be more than we had expected. We came away from this park thinking “Why did the ACE trip NOT come here in 2002, but spend a full day at Efteling instead???” We started our day at “Typhoon.” This is a Gerstlauer “95 degree drop” coaster. The layout of it is very unique and very compact. The cars look very much like a ‘larger sized’ wild mouse car, but with over the shoulder restraints. We weren’t too sure what to make out of this ride, and we feared that it was going to be VERY rough. As it turned out, 2 of our 3 rides were VERY comfortable and really bizarre…but in a good way. The ride begins with a 90 degree vertical lift, so if you’ve been on a Toboggan or a Japanese Ultra Twister, you’ll know the weird experience that I’m talking about. Up and over the lift you go straight DOWN, but further than straight down because the drop curves inward to 95 degree! The first inversions is a loop and then you go through 3 heartline spins which closely resemble those on Volcano. This is one insane, MESSED up ride!!! Overall, we really liked it. We had one ride which was significantly rougher than the other two, but I’m hoping that was due to a train that needed some rehab. But overall, it was really a lot of fun! Next up was the Wild Mouse. Walking up to this mouse, things are very deceiving…looks like a fairly normal Mack mouse, a mirror image one with two tracks like a Nagashima Spaland, but boarding this ride things are very different…this ride was hardly braked at ALL until the very end! I think we hit one minor mid-course, and what we got out of it was one of the most crazy wild mouse rides ever! After the mouse we took a walk over to the Air Race. This is a coaster that we have been seeing in photos and TV shows for YEARS! It’s that Vekoma suspended coaster, that looks a lot like an Arrow coaster, but with cute little airplane cars. It was just ‘ok’, and felt a lot like a Vekoma ride, but it was really cute! Our tour of random water rides was next! Starting with the wet/dry slides that we were told “were mostly dry” but actually ended up mostly “wet!” Thanks Ghost! Then we took on the indoor log flume ride, which, while it didn’t many ANY sense at all was totally awesome!!! Imagine a totally indoor log flume, with insanely cool theming and effects, that gets to TOTALLY drenched. I mean, it felt like I had just taken a shower! Of course, the disclaimer from Ghost was “You don’t get than wet on this ride.” We began to think that this was his way of getting back at all of us Americans! Believe it or not, we actually found food that Elissa would eat, and it wasn’t McDonalds and it wasn’t just plain pasta! (Ok, there was some plain pasta involved, but she did eat other stuff too!) We then hit up the rapids ride with the ‘whirlpool ending.’ The only other place I’ve seen one of these is at Wild Adventures, and this one was very cool. Of course, we got wet! Now for the 2nd most bizarre and cool ride of the day…”Revolution.” All we were told is that this was an indoor Vekoma coaster, similar to Mayan Mindbender or Opryland’s old Chaos. No one told us that there is a huge spiral lifthill with a movie playing on the roof and laser effects on the ground, and then the ride goes through just about every lighting effect you can think of! We all came off stunned! WTF was that??!?! So far, this is the X:\No Way Out or Bullfight Coaster of the trip! We immediately rode again! We did another lap around the park taking in some of the flat rides like the Giant Frisbee (why is it that these rides at Cedar Point and PKI seem to have hour long lines, but all the international ones we’ve seen you walk right on them???), Dan and Joey did the “George Forman Grill” Huss Fly-away, the ‘happy European fun slides of death that you’ve never see allowed in America because of greedy lawyers and insurance companies’, and found the “BB gun shooting gallery” where you get to shoot REAL guns with REAL bullets!!! :o European parks rule! And finally, the most awesome, most politically incorrect, the most racially offensive, most AWESOME dark ride any of us have ever been on! The “El Paso Special.” Words cannot describe how awesome, yet how totally NEVER ALLOWED IN AMERICA this ride is, so I’m going to post a bunch of photos below. Anyway, overall, this park is fantastic! This park looks NOTHING like any park you'd ever seen in America, and IMO, we appreciate the non-PC, non-insurance heavy warning spiels, and the overall relaxed feeling of the park. I wish we had someplace like this in the US, the closest thing I can think of is Knoebel's, but this park is WAY different than Knoebel's. I’m so glad we decided to spend a full day here and we enjoyed just hanging out and taking in the place. And thanks to Ghost for being a great tour guide in one of his home parks, and to Tom from www.onride.de who met up with us today and well see you again tomorrow! Tomorrow we’re off to Walibi World (ex Six Flags Holland) and there is a chance that we may not have an update until Monday since we’re not sure of the hotel we’re at tomorrow will have wi-fi, and then we’re on an overnight ferry the next night. Here are today’s photos…. NOTE: If you want to go right to the page of the latest trip report and photos without reading through the responses, check the "what's new" page: http://www.themeparkreview.com/whatsnew.htm And the best part about El Paso Special is that it turns out to be the legenday "Bench: The Ride!!!!' :o Joey caps those mexicans, indians, and confederates two-fisted Jon Woo style! And if you score high enough you even get to see spousal abuse!!! ...then get to shoot confederate soldiers!!!! ...then get to shoot indians... ...get to shoot mexicans... Ahhh, the "El Paso Special." The totally non-politically correct shooting dark ride where you.... Fun whirlpool rapids ride. Us: "Do we get wet on this Ghost?" Ghost: "Not really" Tom: "Damn you Ghost!!!!" Here is "Vekoma Hat Guy" The Happy Fun Slide Of Death Ride Op is also a TPR reader! We ran into a number of Theme Park Review readers...starting with "Tinhead" Ahh, park food for everyone. All we could hear was screams of agony from Dan and Joey! Dan and Joey in the George Forman Grill. The Air Race...cute trains...fun ride...but kinda rough. It's Vekoma! Joey: "Damn you Ghost!!!" The wet/dry slides. Ghost: "You don't get very wet!" Very smooth heartline spins, much like the ones on Volcano. As you can see the drop curves beyond 90 degrees! Typhoon - 95 Degree drop??? Yessir! "Bobby-Jean-Land" - glad we decided to spend a full day here! This place was soooo cool! -

Hey everyone! Day one of our trip is over, and it was a GREAT day at Walibi Belgium (aka. Vekomaland!) Getting to the park from the hotel was very easy and we were one of the first ten cars in the parking lot. Since we bought our Walibi passes online, we were all set. Entering the park we head for the Vekoma SLC first since it was right at the front and the boys needed their credit. To be honest, it wasn't that bad! I rode in the front row and probably didn't get head banged a single time! After that we headed to Loup Garou, the Vekoma woodie. Not sure how this has managed to stay in good shape all these years, but it has. I can now say that there are two things Vekoma can do right: Roller Skaters and wooden coasters! Seriously, this ride is STILL great! Yes it shuffles a bit, and yes it has some bumpy spots, but it's not "rough" like some of those once great CCI's have become. At this point we noticed that both Vampire (SLC) and Loup Garou had about an hour line each. It seemed that EVERYONE in the park was at these two rides because nothing else had a line. Next we went to Turbine and if you remember, this is the shuttle loop that got stuck upside down a few years ago. Since then they have enclosed the entire launch track and the loop with only the spikes being outdoors. This coaster is so much fun because of that. Three years ago there were some really cool lighting effects inside the enclosed parts, and it was disappointing to see that they aren't there anymore (or at least weren't on today), but the ride was still really fun. Being a fly-wheel model the launch is strong, yet it IS braked on the way back through the station. Not as much as the weight-drop versions, but it is braked. We made our way around to the back of the park, did the Intamin giant drop on the way (GREAT drop ride, BTW), hit up the Vekoma mine train coaster, and then we did something that was a complete surprise to us: 'Challenge of Tutankhamon' This was a dark ride built a couple of years ago using the new version of the Sally Dark Ride system. It's a 'trackless' ride system with the cars holding 6 people each. The effects were fantastic, using real fire in one section, there are three different endings depending on your score, and all of us were really impressed! It reminded me a lot of the Pooh system used in Tokyo Disneyland. We ended up riding this a second time we were so impressed with it! Next up was the Vekoma Boomerang (we told you this was Vekoma land!) and that was actually decent...for a boomerang. Since the park was so empty, we went back and rode Turbine again, Loup Garou again, and did a couple of flat rides (tea cups that were more like a whip!) And then....OMG...the most INSANE bumper cars any of us have ever been on!!! We called them the "no rules" bumper cars....because there were no rules! You could drive any direction you wanted, if you wanted head on collisions...GO FOR IT, and what ended up was complete chaos! It was crazy fun!!! We wandered around a bit more, ate some crepes, rode Loup Garoup again, and finally headed back to our hotel. We spent a good 7 hours at the park and it was all very nice and relaxing, and overall fun. Even though it was "Vekomaland" we didn't hit one bad coaster today. Tomorrow we're off to Bobbjaanland (or however you spell it!). Even though there will be a much bigger Europe update coming later, here are a few photos from today.... NOTE: If you want to go right to the page of the latest trip report and photos without reading through the responses, check the "what's new" page: http://www.themeparkreview.com/whatsnew.htm "This was a bad idea....thanks Dave!" "Beware of electric bolts that made you breathe fire!" WTF?!? Ahh, finally, a coaster that's NOT made by Vekoma!!! Joey and "Wok," the stereo-typical, non-politically correct, super offensive Walibi dragon! :o Ahh, "Happy Hour" on the go-karts! Theme Park Review readers Maverick and Benny put up with us today! Dan: "Pray For Us, Max, we're on a Boomerang!" Joey says "I love Vekoma mine trains!" "Dalton Terror" was a kick ass Intamin Giant Drop! "No shorts allowed in Walibi Belgium...only speedos!" :o WE LOVE VEKOMA!!! One thing Vekoma seems to do right...wooden coasters! Ahh, yes...you can see we are very happy to be riding Vekomaland coasters! First order of the day...SLC!!!! No more "Six Flags"....welcome to "Walibi Belgium!" -

Ok, the story here...since he is actually legal to drink in the UK, he ordered a beer. Assuming it would be warm, as most English beer seems to be, it came out half FROZEN!!!! WTF??? This is our plane...it's big...um...that's all I've got, sorry. Wow...they are actually going to let us on the plane! :o Damn! And we thought our first ride of the trip was going to be the LAX baggage conveyer!!!

Well, we are at the airport! Hopefully our next post will be the start of our official Europe Trip Update! We are dissapointed to find out that it was illegal to "ride the baggage conveyer!" A couple of things Frankin, Nice to see you posting here, but please do try to watch your grammar and spelling. A typo here or there is ok, but so far your posts have been very difficult to read. Second, we aren't going to get into the habit of changing usernames. It gets so hard to keep track of it when people keep changing their names all the time. And what's wrong with Franklin?
