I think if Alton Towers get a woodie, and it is widely speculated that their next coaster will be one (either that or a B&M 4D), then it will most likely be a launched one, which will give them the USP that they like to have for their big coasters. And the strongest current rumours is that their next major coaster in 2017 will indeed be an RMC launched wooden coaster, which may or may not use the terrain of the valley. John Wardley did want a Woodie and said that the cross valley woodie wasn't the only one they designed, and yes Gravity Group did say that one of the projects they had which didn't get off the ground but they wish they had was something they did with Alton Towers. But Merlin had done surveys and found that the general public's perception of wooden coasters was that they were unsafe, so they went for alternative options. Although I think with the amount of new wooden coasters that have been built in the last 10 years or so, and the advances in technology i.e topper track from RMC, (which I know some people say aren't really wooden coasters due to the top layers of the track being steel, but don't all wooden coasters actually have steel rails that the wheels run along in the middle of the top layer of wood?). I think public opinion will change to be more in favour of them.

I don't think there will be anything new this year, with the rumoured wood coaster coming next year that is likely to be on the Corkscrew site. -

So did I! It actually looks pretty much like an element I made on NL in 2013, from the general idea and shape, down the the brakes that are going up the half-loop. The final element looks a bit like Mystery Mine's finale, without the hang time. -

I wonder if the near miss will be themed like this. -

It can't be anything other than a small family coaster, if it is even a coaster at all (nothing has been confirmed yet). There is talk of Sonic Spinball being either removed or re-located so if they were going to build a large coaster there it would be as a replacement for that, and that isn't being taken down yet (as far as I know). There is the possibility of this being a flat ride, we haven't seen a planning application go in for anything yet so who knows. There have been rumours of it being a Zamperla family coaster, with the "Speedy Coaster" or "Mini Mouse" models being the most likely. But who knows? -

Check page 16 on this pdf from merlin. It lists Gardaland's from 2010-2014, and says 2015 - 'Oblivion'. http://www.merlinentertainments.biz/DC72F004-00B6-486F-A9CF-D31965E1CF6D.CFILE Maybe they will call it Oblivion Inferno -

Apparently the coaster is going to be called "Oblivion", not exactly imaginative if it's true. -

The rumours are that it will be Doctor Who themed, Merlin have already worked with the BBC with cbeebies land at Alton Towers so it is thought they would be working together again on this. Not sure what the ride system will be though. -

Hahahaha that's a pretty bad mess up. This centurion tease would be much more believable if it included all of that information rather than just a low-res logo picture hahaha. Wouldn't say it's that low res. -

You can buy the episodes on travelchannelshows youtube channel. Here is the link for episode 1 which is free, the rest of them you will have to pay for. I'm from Canada and I can't access any of those... It's as if it wasnt on sale here or something. Seems to only work within the USA. This is so irritating... I just wanna watch the show. :/ I really would like to watch these as well. I used to get them via torrents, but I can't seem to find them for this season. I managed to find the first 2 episodes using xdcc, but that's all I got so far. I'd pay for them if I could, but it seems they're not even available to buy in Canada. You could use a U.S proxy to access them on youtube to buy them. Or you could create a U.S itunes account and buy them on there, no need for proxy then, just create a U.S account to use on the U.S itunes store. -

I'm coming to that conclusion too. The bit where he describes Velocity as "the best in the country". Yeah. Yeh I think "best in the country" is going a bit far, although it is a fun ride it is nowhere near as good as Stealth. "Best Launch Coaster in the County" is more like it -

It would be a bit pointless having 2 b&m inverts on the same episode. Don't think they have had any vekoma SLCs on the show before so makes sense to have it on to show a bit of diversity. Even if the GP will probably not notice the difference. Glad to finally see a UK coaster on there. Even if it is just the big one. -

You know, a ride like Balder didn't really do anything unique, but it was a game changer in that when it was built (and it still is today, IMO), it was the best in it's class. That ride made people stop what they were doing, re-arrange travel plans, and go out and ride it. I don't understand this mentality that a ride needs a "gimmick" to be a game changer. I wish Alton would take this policy and just get awesome coasters built like they did with Nemesis! To be fair, at the time Nemesis was quite gimmicky. It was the first inverted looping coaster in Europe. But I know what you mean. The problem with Alton Towers is when it comes to marketing they want to grab as much attention as possible, and gimmicks do that. I'd love them to build a RMC woodie, surely the UK's first looping wood coaster would be easy enough for them to grab attention with. They could take a leaf out of Kolmarden's book when marketing, I mean look how much attention they are getting with this. There will be alot of people excited for this that had never even heard of the park before, myself included. Anyway back on topic, am looking forward to this coaster being announced. -

According to First Drop magazine. I put 2+2 together and came to the conclusion they were talking about Wildfire, seeing as by the time the next issue is out the ride will have been anounced. Not definite, but if I were a betting man it is what my money would be on. -

Am guessing this will be the first Vekoma/RMC since Vekoma signed the deal to sell RMC coasters in Europe and have said the first installment will be in 2016. Possibly with a vertical drop into a hole in the ground (like Oblivion), and with some sort of fire element (possibly surrounding the hole). That would be good. -
There will be a proper PC release aswel, this is just the mobile counterpart. If there wasn't then they wouldn't have called it "Roller Coaster Tycoon 4 Mobile" they wouldn't have put the 4 in there. The mobile version is similar in style to RCT 1 and 2, the PC version will be similar to RCT 3 and Theme Park Studio. Hopefully.

I think i'm right in saying that the Sega sponsorship deal has now expired, so it could well be that it is also re-themed and included as part of cbeebies land. Although i'm sure the Long Term Development Plan that was released did mention the possibility of spinball being either relocated to a different part of the park or removed completely, so who knows? -

The Smiler closed again today for "Planned maintenance". Loud jack hammer noises coming from the indoor section, not sure how long it will be closed for. Not sure what they are doing in there but can't be too serious, they put on their twitter that it would be open from 9:30 this morning and then closed in the afternoon. So they knew they would have to close it to work on it, but it was safe enough to open for a few hours before they did the work. Strange, wonder what they are doing to it. On another note here is a mounted POV of the ride, which i'm starting to think is the closest i'll get to actually riding the thing as both times i've been since it opened, it was broken down. Anyway, here is the vid. [vimeo]http://vimeo.com/69021060[/vimeo] -

Update: Alton Towers have confirmed that the ride had technical issues and broke down, the mechanics pulled the train apart in order to get it back to the station. The ride is now re-open.
